Burnley FC writer Matt Scrafton gives his verdict on the late 2-1 win against Portsmouth at Turf Moor on September 21, 2024.
Transcript
00:00Well, I'm just making my way out of the sunny Turf Emergency and Burnley left it late but they've got three points.
00:07They've beaten Portsmouth 2-1. For a long time, it looked like they'd even lose.
00:13Pompey took the lead in the first half, Burnley switched off and were undone at the back post.
00:19And Pompey had already frustrated them, sat back, well organised to be fair, asking lots of credit for how they performed.
00:27And they limited Burnley to very little. Burnley's fans were getting frustrated.
00:31A lot of sideways passes, too often taking the safe option.
00:34But they got an equaliser just after the hour mark through such a cheap Jeremy Sarmiento.
00:39With a real quality finish, literally just came off the bench.
00:43Cut in from the left and stuck it in the bottom corner.
00:45That's sometimes what you have to do. It's the bit of quality to get you back in the game.
00:51From that point onwards, Pompey were happy to sit back and take the point.
00:57Burnley kept going, frustrated with a bit of the time wasting later on.
01:01But because of that, there were eight minutes of stoppage time.
01:03And deep into that stoppage time, it's Josh Brownhill who got the winner.
01:07A bit of a strange one how it went in. It wasn't the cleanest of strikes but it crept into that bottom corner.
01:12And that was that. Portsmouth have nothing left and Burnley got a much-needed win.
01:17And it feels like a big three points. It might not seem like it against a newly promoted side who are down at the bottom of the table.
01:23But that was a big win for Burnley and they'll take a lot from that. Scott Park will take a lot from that.
01:27And that's two wins from two now. Four from six I think it is in the championship and up to third in the table.
01:34So, yeah, big three points for Scott Park's men.
