00:00Welcome to Mojo Plays, and today we're taking a look at 10 of the fakest video game leaks
00:10we have ever witnessed.
00:12Don't believe everything you read and see on the internet, kiddos.
00:15Never fear, Gordon, she's de-beaked and completely harmless.
00:19The worst she might do is attempt to couple with your head.
00:24Before we begin, we publish new videos all week long, so be sure to subscribe to Mojo
00:28Plays and ring the bell to be notified about our latest videos.
00:33Star Fox Grand Prix
00:40The Star Fox franchise has been away for quite some time now, the last game being the underwhelming
00:45Star Fox Zero, which launched on Wii U back in 2016.
00:50With the next Nintendo console on the horizon, it seems Fox McCloud will miss the boat on
00:54the Switch's success.
00:55Let's hope that's not the case, but it's looking like that.
00:59There was a brief glimmer of hope in 2018 when word began spreading of a brand new Star
01:04Fox spinoff titled Star Fox Grand Prix.
01:07While most of the internet began stewing in its excitement over this mysterious new game,
01:12skeptics were understandably suspicious.
01:15This was a leak that was getting a lot of attention, as a few assets kept spreading
01:19that Nintendo would have definitely kept under a tight lid.
01:23Plus, why would Nintendo bring in a new racing game when Mario Kart 8 Deluxe was selling
01:29like gangbusters?
01:30None of it made any sense from a financial nor a portfolio perspective.
01:35Sure enough, it was eventually discovered that Star Fox Grand Prix was nothing more
01:39than a rumor started up by Photoshop mockups.
01:47Super Mario Galaxy DS
01:55In December 2007, a trailer was uploaded to YouTube advertising the reveal of a Nintendo
02:01DS port of Super Mario Galaxy.
02:03An insanely great Wii title coming to a handheld console?
02:07Of course people were going to get amped over that.
02:10But when you stop and really think about it and look at the footage, there is no chance
02:16that a DS was going to properly run a game as ambitious and complex as Super Mario Galaxy,
02:23no matter how many compromises you make.
02:25Still, people got excited until the leaker revealed themselves in 2018.
02:30Pablo Belmont re-uploaded the trailer in a high quality and revealed the trailer was
02:35meant for a school assignment.
02:37The trailer landed Belmont a job in the gaming industry, though according to his MobyGames
02:42page, Belmont hasn't worked on a game since 2011.
02:52Super Mario Sunshine X Splatoon
02:59Super Mario Sunshine, another 3D Mario classic that would have fans foaming at the mouth
03:04just from the mere mention of it.
03:06Splatoon saw that hype firsthand.
03:09In 2015, a leaked screenshot was floating around that showed plans to bring Mario Sunshine
03:14content into Splatoon via the Mario Amiibo.
03:18The image even used a render of Mario that had never been used in any of Sunshine's
03:23marketing material or any of the marketing material that came after.
03:27Just a few days after the leak exploded, the leaker uploaded a video on the channel Mario
03:32Inky Leaky, which is a heck of a name, but the channel confirmed that the image was completely
03:39fake, and it made a fool of all of us.
03:47All the Half-Life 3 Leaks
03:53One of the most frequent jokes made within the gaming community is how Half-Life 2 Episode
03:572 ends with a cliffhanger and that Valve will never make a third game because they're
04:01scared of the number three.
04:03It looks more true every single day.
04:05The hope for Half-Life 3 has gone on for so long that every once in a while, some schmo
04:10gets the clever idea to create a fake teaser image or a video of some kind to get people
04:17to think the announcement has leaked.
04:19What many forget is that Valve is a really small company with a very tight team of people
04:25and is primarily focused on hardware and running a digital storefront these days.
04:30Even though they put out new games every once in a while, making software hasn't really
04:34been their focus as much as it used to.
04:36But people still hold out hope for Half-Life 3 so aggressively that we have to wonder how
04:42much of Half-Life's fanbase is now just suffering from Stockholm Syndrome.
04:46We know, Half-Life is an amazing series, but at some point, you gotta wonder if the story
04:52was left unresolved for a reason.
04:59The Bizarre PlayStation Controllers
05:07Much like the fake Half-Life 3 leaks, PlayStation suffers just as much when it comes to fake
05:12leaks.
05:13For years, we've seen so many fabricated images with their creators claiming they unearthed
05:18details about the next PlayStation console.
05:21Who could forget the X-shaped box that was passed around as the PS5?
05:25As for controllers, you can find so many mockups of what the next supposed PlayStation
05:29controller is going to be, and most of the time, it's just mildly modified DualShock
05:344 controllers.
05:36Now, you have some individuals claiming they have details about PlayStation 6 controllers,
05:41only to show off modified DualSense controllers.
05:45At some point, we should all just wait until we hear from Sony themselves about hardware
05:51products.
05:52For Smash Bros. Melee's additional unlockable characters, we've seen some pretty good
06:00fake leaks during development and marketing of previous Smash Bros. games.
06:04From ArtsyOmni's Rayman render to the 2018 Grinch leak, Smash sees waves upon waves of
06:10leaks all the way until launch with every new title.
06:14However, the ones that were obviously fake from the very start were EGM's claims about
06:19Sonic, Tails, and Toad being unlockable in Super Smash Bros. Melee.
06:24Both came with some pretty solid, but still fake screenshots, but if Melee fans had stopped
06:30for a few seconds from getting excited and trying to unlock these characters themselves,
06:35they would have known it was fake from the start before EGM published their next issue
06:39and confirmed their fraud.
06:41Guys, Melee tells you when you have unlocked every character in the game.
06:47Doing so is what unlocks All-Star Mode.
06:50How did anyone fall for this?
07:06Oddly enough, PlayStation's own Smash clone has seen some fake leaks since its debut in
07:112012 on PS3.
07:14Despite seeing marginal success, PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale has amassed a following
07:18that has been hungry for Sony to give the green light to a sequel, albeit with some
07:22much-needed improvements.
07:24Some fans have gone so far as to try to create mock-ups and pass them off as leaks.
07:30From the usual roster images to the occasional gameplay footage of questionable menus and
07:35blurry imagery, the few PlayStation All-Stars fans that remain get a small glimmer of hope
07:40every so often.
07:42It's unlikely for another E3 or Summer Games Fest to go by without Sony saying a word.
08:02The mid-2010s were a chaotic period, as folks were eagerly awaiting Nintendo to reveal their
08:07next console, the next machine to hopefully not be as underwhelming as the Wii U.
08:13The hype was so huge that some began claiming they found info on what the NX, what we now
08:17know today as the Switch, would have as a controller.
08:21The most common image that was being passed around in 2016 was a pill-shaped controller
08:26that only featured two analog sticks, with almost the whole controller being used as
08:31a screen.
08:32This actually ignited a brief moment of panic, as people thought this controller was the
08:37NX itself, and that we were about to see yet another era of Nintendo focusing on touchscreens.
08:43Come on, did we really think that was going to be the next Nintendo console?
08:48Really?
08:49You gotta give them more credit than that.
08:51Nintendo Switch 2 Mock-Ups
08:59Speaking of Nintendo's next console, the successor to the Nintendo Switch is on the
09:03horizon at the time of us making this video, and already, in this day and age where clicks
09:08and likes are the most important thing ever, people have gone to great lengths to pretend
09:13they have the deets on what the next Nintendo console is.
09:17But so far, all anybody seems to come up with are just chunky iterations of the Switch.
09:23Granted, rumors have suggested that that is what the next console is, a more powerful
09:29version of the Switch.
09:31However, looking at Nintendo's history in hardware, the company has rarely ever made
09:36sequel consoles, the only exceptions really being Game Boy Advance, 3DS, and Wii U.
09:42And even then, each of those consoles had completely different looks, specs, and button layouts.
09:48So predicting the next Nintendo console is like predicting the exact spot where lightning
09:53will strike.
09:55It never strikes in the same spot twice.
09:58Just about every E3 and Summer Games Fest leak.
10:08If you keep up with gaming news, you'll know that every summer, people come out claiming
10:12they have info on some yet-to-be-revealed game.
10:15Heck, it's almost an expectation to see fake screenshots, because they have all become
10:19so predictable.
10:21Is the image about as blurry as a found-footage horror movie?
10:25Is there so much exposure and bright spots that the image looks like you might be seeing
10:28God?
10:30Was the image taken in a seemingly dark room, where you can only see the screen and nothing
10:35else?
10:36Congratulations, then!
10:37You have most likely spotted a fake leak.
10:40Of course, nowadays, we see supposed leaked reveal schedules of Nintendo Directs and Sony
10:46State of Plays.
10:47It's cool to have personal wish lists, but let's not fool each other, okay?
10:56That said, what's the most ridiculous leak you've seen that wound up being fake?
