00:00Jerry, you know all the issues we've been talking about in the offseason to start this
00:19season.
00:20How concerning is it that those same issues didn't get fixed against the Ravens?
00:26Well, I think that what we didn't fix against the Ravens will ultimately get fixed.
00:34That's not just optimism.
00:35I like our personnel.
00:37I like the way we're going about fixing it.
00:42It's pretty apparent we've got some pretty glaring areas that we can get better in, and
00:48I think we will.
00:49Jerry, what gives you the hope that it can get fixed with this personnel given what's
00:55happened the last two weeks?
00:56Well, I think we were 2-3 last year, and we ended up winning 12 games during the regular
01:04season.
01:05Now, we weren't as ready as we'd like to have been for the playoffs, but I think that we're
01:12certainly learning about what not to do, that's for sure.
01:17We played some pretty top competition early.
01:21This Cleveland, this Baltimore, this group of teams in that division are really a test
01:28for us as we get ready for our first game, of course, in our division against the Giants
01:35this week.
01:36But all in all, I do think that while we're disappointed, without a doubt, and can really
01:45see how we need to really put this thing better together as a team, more coordinated.
01:53And I'm not just saying within the defense, I'm saying defense, offense, the entire area.
01:59I think we have a chance to improve on this, and that's the big thing.
02:03We're not hitting on all cylinders.
02:05If we were, that'd be real concerning.
02:07Jerry, what do you like about the way you are addressing it, and how are you guys addressing
02:13it?
02:14I think I like the way we're basically right down to the individual's technique, accountability
02:23is what it calls for, and there's no question about it.
02:26And at this time of the year, you've really got to focus in on what your part is on a
02:35team concept, whether it be defense, offense, or special teams.
02:39So I think we're doing the right thing.
02:42I know that for a fact that we've got coaches that know how to do this, know what they want
02:48done, and know what they're expecting from the players, know by this time what they can
02:53get out of the players.
02:55Mike Zimmer knows his players now.
02:58When he walked in last spring, it might not have been the case, but he knows them now,
03:03and he knows what their potential is.
03:07And they need to see that.
03:10This is just a part of, really, when you look at it, the ups and downs of everything.
03:18And you've got to really be your best when it's a downtime.
03:23And this is that.
03:24It's not the end game, not the end time.
03:26We play 17 games.
03:28Just to remind you, we play 17 games.
03:32We played three of them.
03:33We're not at all satisfied with where we are, but we've got the time to have the kind of
03:39team we want going into the playoffs.
