00:00Every afternoon, Thomas the Tank Engine puffs along his branch line with Annie and Clarabel.
00:07First, they pass the water mill.
00:10Next, they come to a big farm.
00:14Then, they can see a bridge with a village nestled either side of it.
00:19This is a special place.
00:22Whenever children hear Thomas coming along, they stand on the bridge waving until he is out of sight.
00:32One day, Thomas was running late.
00:35He had stopped at the signal before the bridge to talk to some new children.
00:39Percy the Green Engine was waiting, too.
00:43Hurry up, Thomas, called Percy when the signal dropped.
00:46If you're late, Sir Topham Hatt may get a new engine to replace you.
00:51He would never do that, thought Thomas, but he was worried.
00:57Next day, Thomas hurried along the line.
01:01Just ahead was the goods yard.
01:03There, on the platform, was an inspector waving a red flag.
01:11Next, Thomas saw some children.
01:13They were waving, too.
01:15Something must be wrong, thought Thomas.
01:18This station is for goods, not passengers.
01:21Help, Thomas, help! We're glad to see you, called the children.
01:25Please, will you take us home?
01:27The stationmaster explained to Thomas' driver that the school bus had broken down
01:32and all the parents would be worried if the children were late.
01:36Thomas waited as the children walked down from the bridge.
01:44Then he took the children to the next station where Bertie was waiting to take them home.
01:52When Thomas finished his journey, he was very late.
01:55He was worried that Sir Topham Hatt might be cross with him.
02:00I warned Thomas, puffed Percy to James, he's been late one time too many.
02:06He'll be in trouble now.
02:10But next morning when Thomas picked up his passengers, Sir Topham Hatt was nowhere to be seen.
02:21Thank goodness, sighed Thomas.
02:29Thomas knows every part of his branch line.
02:33Just ahead was a stretch where the hot sun had bent the rails on the track.
02:42Careful, Thomas, called his driver, but it was too late.
02:51That's done it, said his driver. We shan't get any further today.
02:56But what about my passengers, asked Thomas.
02:59Don't worry, they'll be looked after, replied his driver.
03:05While workmen repaired the line, Thomas had to shunt freight cars in the yard.
03:10Bertie came to see him.
03:12I understand you need my help again.
03:15Yes, Bertie, replied Thomas sadly. I can't run without my rails.
03:20Bertie set off to collect Thomas' passengers.
03:29Hello, Bertie, they said. We're glad you're here.
03:33Bertie drove along the road that runs by the railway.
03:37He stopped at each station along the line.
03:41Sometimes he stopped between stations to let people off closer to their homes.
03:46Thomas felt miserable.
03:48I've lost my passengers to Bertie. They'll like him better than me.
03:53Sir Topham Hatt arrived.
03:56Your branch line is repaired.
03:59I'm going to change your timetable so that you and Bertie can work together more.
04:04When Thomas reached the station, there to his relief were all his passengers.
04:09Bertie is a good bus, but we missed our train rides with you, they said.
04:14Later, Thomas spoke to Bertie.
04:16Thank you for looking after my passengers.
04:19That's all right, Thomas. I like to make new friends, but I'm glad to share them with you.
04:24You're a good friend indeed, replied Thomas, and always will be.
