Transcript
00:00Hello, I'm Jordan Warren from the Illawarra Mercury Sport Team joined as always on a Friday by Agron Latifi, Gronny my colleague
00:05We do our Friday sport chats every Friday
00:08And of course we saw last week the grand finals the winter codes finished the football season's done and dusted
00:13But that doesn't mean sports over mate
00:14Obviously, we've got the Illawarra Hawks tomorrow night against the Adelaide 36ers, the Hawkies 3-0 to start the season
00:19What do you make of the game tomorrow night at the WEC?
00:21It's gonna be tough. I mean the Hawks have had a great start and their game
00:26Fantastic
00:27You know, Justin Tatum's gonna play really good basketball. Everyone's contributing, but it's gonna be a tough game against the 36ers
00:33I had their first win last night against the Phoenix and
00:37Trez Harrell one of the
00:39One of the gun imports. It's gonna be gonna get a really test test the Hawks, but you know, we're playing at home
00:47We've enjoyed a really good home record and I can't say no no reason why we can't win it again
00:52Let's move on to the cricket mate
00:53Obviously the Wollongong cricket season starts or the Cricket Illawarra season starts this Saturday with the T20 competition. Yeah
01:00There's a number of questions with that with the cricket the T20
01:05Wollongong won the T20 competition last year, but they haven't won the one-day competition in over 50 years and that's the that's the ultimate
01:11That's the you know, that's that's a championship. That's what everyone plays for
01:16That's the question can can Wollongong finally break the 50-plus year drought and can Kira continue they had a great season last year
01:23They won the one-day comp and they made the final of the T20 comp
01:27Well, let's move on of course to the game that everyone's talking about in Australian sport
01:30Of course the NRL grand final this weekend this Sunday at a core stadium
01:35Between the Penrith Panthers and the Melbourne Storm and of course
01:37Well, you wouldn't think there's a local angle to that there is of course Tyrone Wishart
01:41The son of Illawarra Steelers and Dragons great Rod Wishart is playing for the Storm
01:45Well should be in line to play for the Storm on Sunday. Got that local connection, of course a massively
01:51Great story I should say for Tyrone
01:53Of course
01:54He was in the Steelers set up and the Dragons set up has been at the Storm for a couple of years
01:58And we're speaking to Rod his dad yesterday
02:00He's just so immensely proud
02:02Of his son Tyrone and the irony of the fact is that Rod played his last NRL game in a grand final loss to the
02:08Storm 25 years ago and now he'll be supporting them in the NRL grand final on Sunday
02:12So it's just a crackingly ironic story. But what do you think about the game Ronnie?
02:16I think the Melbourne Storm are going to get home here. I think that they're just too good
02:19I think that spine is just absolutely the best spine in Rugby League in World Rugby League at the moment
02:25What do you think mate? Do you think that the Penrith can win four in a row?
02:29Yeah, they definitely can I mean, you know, right Penrith are in peril
02:34I mean, they've shown it time and again in big games that they show up
02:38But in saying that Melbourne have been the form team. They've had players out injured, but they still win
02:43You know Craig Bellamy gets his team up. It's a it's a flick of the coin for me and
02:48I'll play devil's advocate and I'll go for the Panthers. Yeah. Yeah one all there
02:52But head to the Illawarra Mercury website for all the news across the weekend and for the summer sports as well
