00:00President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. visited Ilocos Norte

00:04to check on the situation of the residents affected by Hurricane Julián.

00:09The President also ordered the water pollution to be reduced in the area.

00:15Kenneth Paciente is in the center of the news.

00:20During President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.'s visit to Ilocos Norte,

00:24he personally informed the authorities that Hurricane Julián had struck.

00:28The President learned that one of the reasons for the flood in some areas of the province

00:33was the siltation,

00:34which he should immediately address to avoid environmental issues.

00:40I was surprised when we were flying.

00:43The siltation here is really bad.

00:47We have to do something.

00:49But we'll figure something out.

00:51I'll talk to whoever we can talk to who can help us.

00:56I don't remember the rivers being that shallow before.

01:01I've never seen them this shallow in all the time that I spent here in Ilocos.

01:09And they've been silted for a long time.

01:18I think that's the main problem that we're facing,

01:22is the siltation.

01:24And that's what's causing all of this damage that we're seeing.

01:33That's the one that we have to attend to.

01:54I will talk to some of the big companies who specialize, who are doing this.

02:21And then I think your idea, Govmat, of chopping up the areas so that everyone,

02:30we can assign already somebody to for each area.

02:35It'll be almost sabay-sabay.

02:39That's the thing that we have to do now.

03:11We have to make a road and then a slope protection.

03:19So that even if a big flood comes, the slope protection won't be pushed.

03:39The DSWD of 10,000 pesos of cash assistance to qualified individuals affected by the flood.

03:45The President also gave 100 million pesos to the local government of Ilocos Norte

03:50to be used in their rehabilitation efforts.
