00:00They're in about fourth place for Australia just behind him Max Anstey on the 29, but it's Vial who leads the way
00:08Webster moving into second. Where did that start come from?
00:12Webster's benefiting Honda HRC really stepped up giving him a full factory bike for the weekend with
00:17Chance Hymas not being in the race that gave them more opportunity
00:21Cooper Webb for the US. He's in third place on the number 23. Oh and then Carl Webster just tips over
00:27He loses that second position. He's got it all to do again. He emerges just behind the 11 of Simon Langefelder of Germany
00:34Great start for web here that has to be you're gonna see Webster's mistake just loses the front, right?
00:39He steps over never really had the front as he transitioned down that jump
00:42You see Max Anstey narrowly avoiding disaster as well as Yokoyama
00:48Heading up over the quad
00:50Used to have that long sweeping turn before it come back on itself for the GoPro waves now
00:54We just turn right that's one of the changes on this race track
00:57We'll give you the full description and I'll go pro track preview tomorrow in the first race
01:01But leading the way Tom Bial number two with a point to prove and of course
01:06We saw the number 14 of Lucas Coonan tried to go too early
01:09He's down in seventh place ahead of Brody Connolly the Kiwi in eighth position
01:15That'll put the Kiwis 10th overall. That'll take the pressure off their final rider
01:20Just like that ski and and you wonder does the the selection process help you for your qualifying get does the Kate pick really matter
01:27Well, if Coonan had been let's say 20th gate pick and made that same mistake
01:31He would be outside the top 15 on the start right now with that inside gate. He still came out in six
01:37Max Anstey dropping uphill here number 29 for TV TV. He's in third
01:42Cooper Webb just ahead of him for the US in second your new world champion in MX to in orange kind of wolf
01:48What a lineup of top five VL where Anstey the wolf Coonan and then we've got Connolly Brody Connolly for New Zealanders
01:55The wolf looking to go down the inside and flex his muscles here and he goes to the outside
02:01Two teammates here though normally when they're at home. Yeah, this is interesting
02:05They actually practice together
02:06But there's a lot of different riders who have never raced together Cooper Webb and Kai DeWolf certainly haven't raced against each other
02:11Max Anstey and Kai DeWolf
02:13I don't know if they would have maybe in some sort of domestic championship race or something. Certainly not
02:24Yeah, so none of these riders really know how to race each other and then you have Tom Viao who's kind of trying to check
02:29Out near the front and you have to imagine Lucas Coonan who's sitting fifth is going to join this party very quickly
02:34And Steve getting alongside Webb. He's gonna drop down the inside
02:39On a bit of an off-balance there for Webb allows Anstey to go through Anstey now up in the second place
02:44Yeah, and I think for Webb it's really important to try to walk on to the rear of Anstey just you know
02:49It's if you can just mimic what he's doing take the lines
02:51He's taking do what he's doing, especially because you look at a rider like Anstey who is so familiar and has had so much success
02:57Here you just want to kind of do what he's doing if I can just match pace with him match lines
03:02That's gonna help drag him around the racetrack
03:04Gaining very very quickly that number 14 in the yellow Lucas Coonan. He's closing in on to Wolf. He's all over the back of web
03:12Yeah, well, you know what kind of wolf maybe orange orange
03:15But Lucas Coonan just sees red when he looks at kind of wolf
03:18He wants to get up there and pass the wall to walk up to third with that move on the American
03:22He now goes after Anstey
03:25And
03:30Look at Lucas Coonan closing in on Cooper Webb as well jumps long goes down the inside a
03:36Good reaction this room web though, but it's on the wrong side
03:38He got it heading into the left-hander the number 23 now being shuffled back to fifth place
03:48Lucas Coonan has been absolutely pretty much unstoppable the second half of the season as the race wins Grand Prix victories
03:54Doing it now for team Belgium the owl with the fastest lap of 203 535. He's got about 5.8 seconds over Anstey
04:01He doesn't want to be hanging around getting himself involved in all of this malarkey
04:04Yeah, and you watch web and you try to understand. Okay, where is he losing time? He's just less aggressive, right?
04:09He looks a little tentative a little hesitant entering the corners
04:12He's not flowing the way the riders are in front of him
04:15Some of that is he hasn't raced a 250 in seven years and somebody's had most of the summer off, right?
04:20So not only is on an unfamiliar racetrack. He's got a match pace with riders with all the momentum, you know, Max Anstey
04:26He's really started to find himself in SMX, but these other two have been battling for a world championship all summer
04:31They're coming in like it's another race on a Saturday afternoon
04:34And that's the key isn't it treating it like another race if you can but not easy coming from the u.s
04:39We've just had 31 races. The last three will be in SMX on the back end of outdoor
04:45Yeah, and you know that I think it's easy to say well this and that and think of it as an excuse there are no
04:52Excuses at the motocross of nations. You just try to give reasons why you see riders pull away and where he may be losing time
04:58Those are the things you try to sort out going into Sunday, though
05:01Well, we'll be able to go back look at film watch a little bit slower
05:04Try to understand why he wasn't as comfortable on the bike going in on a Saturday
05:08Some of it will be setting some of it is just a really difficult racetrack on a Saturday afternoon
05:13So all is not lost
05:14I think one of the most important factors there is we've got a good start which will really serve him well on Sunday if he
05:20Can replicate that
05:26He's in 14th place 14 Australia of course until orange was born in race one
05:31So as it stands right now
05:32if you count all of your results France go to the top of the group on four with a third from Roman Pfeffer and a
05:39One with Tom Vielle at the moment the Netherlands move up to eight with a fifth and a third that fifth from Hurling's and a
05:45Third from DeWolf here in orange at the moment Spain go from first
05:49To third because Oriol Oliver is ninth
05:52So that's giving them ten points so you can see how quickly this competition
05:57Changes and the Belgians at the moment with Lucas Coonan. They've moved themselves up to 11
06:02It was 19th after Brent van Donnecke in race one
06:05Yeah, I'm just kind of watching the lap times here
06:08Be out turned into 203 the last lap around this lap was a 204 which is still right at the best lap time on
06:13The racetrack, so he's kind of sending a message here
06:16You know he was the mx2 world champion before he departed for the USA now
06:19It comes into the likes of DeWolf and Lucas Coonan battling for that same, right?
06:24But I think the owl is trying to show as we see there's Kyle Webster big mistake. Yeah
06:29Webster again, and that's jumping up off the triple on the way into the final turn
06:33It looks like he sent a few photographers
06:35scattered there as well, so
06:37Another mistake for Webster then he's down to 23rd place from 14, so
06:42That's the tough part so I'll show you has a team that can win this event overall right when you need all three
06:48Riders to participate at the top level to get that done
06:51So that is that's the impetus for Webster now jet and hunter gonna have to do their part, but a crash like that
06:56Tomorrow won't get it done that will not win this event. Yeah, I like to wolf here at the moment
07:02Found some nice lines bottom end of the circuit top end of the circuit
07:05And he uses them to good effects as he finds his way past the wall as that finds his way past entity that moves in
07:10A second position the gap between the owl your race leader and the wolf now 7.3 seconds Lucas Coonan
07:17Just hopping over that little what's not the normal transfer, but he's just utilizing the lines on the track
07:21Well, it's fun
07:23You know go back and watch kind of wolf in Spain last weekend and how tense he was and how nervous he was riding
07:28And then watch him today completely different rider
07:30He doesn't have the pressure that he had last week. He's able to run freely and make a mistake. No big deal
07:35That's that's what the world championships do
07:37But this is primetime kind of wolf again somebody down at the end of the wave section there as well
07:42We saw wave jell-o's there a moment ago, but here's Lucas Coonan
07:46Number 14 team Belgium going after answer now. This is gonna be for third place
07:51This is the part of the track where Webster crashed a lap ago
07:55Just saw him picking himself up. So either came up short or jump long and just landed heavily
08:00But look at how this
08:02Classification has changed now four points for France. It was what three after the first race. Let's have a look here
08:12Something at least anyway, I thought we were going to go to a replay but to be out to war for ants in a top three
08:17Coonan
08:18Nothing in it between him and the Brit where fifth seven and a half seconds further back for the USA then Camden McClellan
08:23They need that result for team South Africa
08:25They were not classified after the first race because their man had 36 position as Coonan down the inside
08:32How did he make that happen? He cornered like he was on rails Coonan nap in the third place
08:37You see how light he was in that inside rut, right?
08:39It's so easy to dig deep in there and bog that bike down the foot pegs will catch in the rut
08:43You lose all your momentum
08:44He stayed at the very top of the rut stayed light and was able to get squirt right through there and Anstey was none the wiser
08:50Just looking a little bit further down the order McClellan is six for South Africa
08:53The German Langenfeld of seven Oliver of Spain eight the Italian Adamo nine Yokoyama is ten for Japan
08:59Mikhailov Czech Republic is up to 11th head of heart for Denmark Tonus of Switzerland is in 13th place
09:06then we got the
09:0847 of Bernardo Eto'o Tiburcio
09:11Brazil he's next in 14th and Benjamin Garib of the of Chile then Sam that Leo Connelly
09:18So he's fallen down the order as well. That's a nice little double now. He's turning into a double
09:22Yeah, he took Prado's line and basically as the track developed turned it into a little step up which the key there
09:28Is that he's allowed to drive down the downside of that landing and push forward into that corner
09:33And especially on a 250 being able to carry that momentum and not have that bounce back is really important top, right?
09:38If you're screened Langenfeld are trying to get around the outside of Camden McClellan these two fighting over fifth place
09:45McClellan hanging on in there at the moment
09:48Where are the set up there 23rd at the moment they're heading for the be final but they were 30
09:5433rd or 34th after the first race. Yeah, they need every position for McClellan right now
10:00Yeah, 36 actually they were so the last four teams unclassified
10:08No web loss between these two so you can expect Kuna to give everything he has to try to make a move
10:13When do you think when you talk about turning?
10:16Certain situations into positives you can look at it go Lucas Coon and he'll be annoyed that he's there in third place
10:22But then he'll come back and he'll say right
10:24Laptimes be out last time around 203 point for Lucas Coon and his best at 202 point eight
10:30You know, but it's this guy here on screen in orange cardinal who set the fastest lap so far on lap three at 202
10:38Point four nine seven. So only three or four tenths pretty much as we've seen from the two
10:43Start guys throughout the whole season, but VL though great start haven't seem to get too many of those this year
10:48well kind of we have maybe 50 50, but
10:51He's there seven seconds clear of these two a statement ride to be out at the moment
10:56It is it is and you know, I don't think you know
10:59You can question the French at your own peril at this event
11:03But for him to come in and win this way with the never have it that hasn't been on his best form
11:08Maxim or no has not been on his best form. So they really need this type of
11:12Performance from Tom Bialik. They hope to stand on the top step tomorrow
11:15You see how he railed that right hand turn on the way to the GoPro waves a moment ago
11:20Tom Bialik up on the pegs through the deep ruts unfazed
11:24Looks like he's enjoying being back on this side of the pond at the moment
11:27Yeah, and he had been doing a lot of practice. He's a regular practice partner with chase Sexton
11:31So they had been preparing for this event coming in. He knew they would be ready and he's showing up so far
11:37Yeah, looking good at the moment is team France number two on the KTM Tom Bialik
11:44And don't forget in the second race last year. He closed down maximum
11:49No, it was a French one two, which pretty much sealed the deal for the French in that middle race
11:54But the way that he caught his teammate that day
11:58Was that impressive? Yeah, and I think that's what surprised so many people this summer
12:02He wasn't able to harness that all the time Hayden Deegan simply had the best of them
12:06Most of the time and Bialik was his own worst enemy at times threw away race wins crashed
12:12but then you watch him at a race like this weekend and you understand why people
12:15Expected him to come in and be a champion already and nothing's decided
12:20Maybe he still will be one day in pro motocross, but the the question will be where is this type of performance in the USA?
12:27Just a little bit of deja vu here between Dwarf and Coon and as we've seen on this side of the pond all year long
12:33The two Dastana Husqvarna's, I mean what a season there is down the inside again just as he was but he couldn't find his way
12:38past Anstey on this occasion
12:41The same way that he found his way past Anstey on this occasion, but he's still working outside inside outside again here
12:46A little bit loose a little bit untidy
12:49If he doesn't find a way around before he will make the pass there next lap. Yeah
12:54He's got good momentum through the mid part of that corner as well hasn't it that turn six as you drop downhill
13:00Look how cheered up the track is though a real technical element
13:03But you wouldn't think it the way these guys are going around all these 250s
13:05Yeah, and these you know, these are conditions these guys are great where we raced in before like they look comfortable
13:10They don't look tentative the aggression level on a track that is screaming for you to be cautious is it's really impressive
13:17Especially on the 250
13:19Just looking at Webster now. He's in 19th place
13:22so he went from
13:25Fifth to 14th
13:27And then down to sorry went down 14th and then down to 23rd, so he's trying to get himself back up into contention
13:34He's now up to 19th place the Australian and what does that do that puts him about 9th of the grid at the moment?
13:42Langenfeld is up to 50s found his way past Camden McClellan as the wolf continues to be harassed by his teammate normally
13:49Lucas Coonan Randy outside. This is term one
13:54Chuck it in Seymour get on the gas
13:58No caution there
14:02So Langefeld a nap in the fifth place
14:07Yeah, we're coming up to that same section the key is he needs to be close
14:10He needs to be right on his rear tire entering that downtown so much time he lost coming up there that may give
14:17Kind of off enough room going into that section
14:20Go back to the grid positions Germany 36 gate pick
14:24Ken Robson got a good start in race one. He came away with a
14:28sixth place finish
14:30Langenfelder is up into
14:32Fifth place now. He's just set the fastest lap of the race at 202 1 2 9 on lap 6
14:37And that's put Germany at the moment up to 4 for their gate pick for the races tomorrow. It's a great recovery
14:4436
14:46Yesterday morning, you'll kind of say this is gonna be a really tough Saturday to come out with a sixth and a fifth so far
14:51All right. It's a nice day
14:52up the inside of
14:54Adamo so hard for Denmark in red moving up the inside of the Italian Adamo moves into ninth place
15:01Yeah, these guys battle all the time are there hey, I know you right different different format different race
15:06But these guys are very familiar with each other. We've lost the wall. There's heart. There's a Coonan. Where's the wolf the wolf?
15:13Has gone missing
15:15Is that coming up the hill towards the city jump?
15:19Yeah, Coon and definitely second
15:23And Anstey now back into third off the step down
15:28Into the left hander by the city jump. Yes folds the front over the bars. That's how quickly it can change
15:35I was just hoping when I saw him just come to the turnout thought it's got to be in that corner
15:39Well, you just you're I'm happy it wasn't on that downhill jump because that would have been much worse that that one
15:43He'll get up. You should be fine. You never know but
15:46That was one. That's one of the trickiest sections on this racetrack. I've heard riders complain about it all day at that soft landing there
15:53that rise
15:55So Lucas Coon and then up to second the gap between him and VL is only four seconds with just under four minutes plus two
16:01To go lap time last time around VL 2047 Coon and 2034
16:05Normally you'd expect the team Belgium to say, you know what you're safe in second position, but you're not that safe
16:11Yeah, you're in ninth place
16:12But they can't afford another race like Brett McDonagh had in that techniques GP race where they were what 19th place. Oh
16:20I don't think Lucas Coon and cares what's on that pit board. He's going after Tom
16:25Yeah, I do not think so
16:29Lucas Coon and he only knows one gear he really does and that is to try to win the race
16:34Guy the wolf is now down to fifth Langefeld has gone through
16:39The triple
16:44That was coming into the corner that's twice where he's completely missed the apex
16:52So out of fourth and down to fit the Germans picking up a point and McClellan now
16:58Seems okay there though. Maybe just over jumps and just ran out of road
17:03Better than the first time right if you if you're gonna make a mistake go off the track
17:09But McClellan
17:10He could do with an extra point here just to give South Africa a bit of a look in there sitting on the cusp at
17:16The moment in 21st place on 42 points
17:2439 and then Brazil on 38. That's how tight it is
17:28I just looks disheveled here, right all of that free kind of intensity. It just kind of lost that
17:35Yeah, just rattled or maybe the bike has bent up. You never never really know. Yeah, especially after that
17:45Because he went down he crossed ruts and went down on the right side
17:48Maybe those bars are pulled over to the right hand side
17:50Nothing worse when you're trying to follow a either that front fender that's going the wrong way
17:54You're trying to keep yourself straight and the bars are already
17:5745 degrees. Yeah, you have to tilt a certain direction to go straight on a track like this
18:02Hello game on
18:05former world champion against
18:07Future potential world champion. He is whittled that gap down to one and a half seconds
18:11As you say taking no notice of the pit board Belgium need every point they can get
18:16This is a fantastic performance from Lucas Coon and I don't care where you are from in the world
18:20He is one of the most exciting riders we've seen in a long time and he is shining right here on the biggest stage
18:25Of all. Yeah, this is the guy he's always looking for a fight. He's always looking for trouble
18:30There is not a situation
18:31He's gonna settle or any of those things in you know
18:34I remember seeing some of his first interviews ever was either I would rather crash than not win
18:39I just want to win and they're intermediate sectors. He lost a full second in sector two. So not sure what happened there
18:46But
18:48Anyway, can he
18:50React and sort of pick himself back up or as Lucas Coon and now that he's got that carrot in front of him
18:55Just gonna go. You know what? I'm on it. I can be on it even more
18:59Just slightly offline
19:00The oh could have been so much worse. He pulls up. He looks back over the shoulder
19:05You got a figure that I would like to see him hold up a bit more there
19:10That was not in my opinion penalizing enough of a mistake. We'll see it more from here. Yeah
19:14Look, he jumps across he lands. He can't break at the moment. Then all of a sudden. He's just like, okay
19:20Look on
19:23It wasn't
19:24Anyway, yeah, it's made no difference Lucas Coon and all over the back of it not for us to decide but that's it
19:30That's a tough one for the decision makers there
19:31Is he gonna transfer here and make a difference hops up gets to the inside. He gets a front door slammed in his face
19:38VL on the ropes here haven't seen that in a while with him on this side of the pond
19:43Yeah, and you assumed that he was kind of gonna check out here
19:45And you don't know if he lost intensity of Kunin's line. It's just are better
19:49But he closed down a seven-second lead really quickly super slow-mo
19:54Coon and saw it coming didn't need those two lines merged into one like is it
20:01Right back markers ahead of the two leaders
20:04VL lead in the way for France
20:06VL lead in the way for France the number two, we've got three to go the two-lap board comes out this time around I
20:16Think times like this you're trying to answer the question. That's what's so great about motor press nations
20:21Who is truly the best 250 rider in the world, right?
20:23It's a shame we don't have Hayden Deegan here in the fight to help answer that question
20:27But that's what these riders want to talk about the racing for the country. Yes, but these qualifying races
20:32They're out to prove a point
20:33And actually if you are Hayden Deegan, and you're watching this no doubt. He's probably thinking
20:37Well, you know, I've got VL licked all weekend long all year long
20:41So if this is the best they've got guess what bragging rights are on me, you know, maybe
20:46Honestly, but you don't know until you get into this scenario this event
20:50Yeah, and Hayden Deegan needed surgery, right? We all know why he's not here
20:54But I love that about this get the best of both sides of the world and let's duke it out and see who's truly best
21:01I'm telling you couldn't doesn't care. He does not care. He used the back pocket there as a
21:08portal in from Venezuela
21:14He's still going isn't he? Oh, we got white yellows no jumping wheels on the ground
21:20Yeah rider off to the left we're all good
21:24Yeah, good recovery this from yeah exactly
21:26That's what I was gonna say be else fought back here pretty valiantly you can tell he's pushing pretty hard at the moment
21:30With I bet he wishes he had pushed hard earlier. She didn't have to fight him off the last few laps
21:35well, if you didn't think that
21:37He was being pursued by a bulldog. Well, he's obviously just had a bit of a reminder
21:41But that's the in Langenfelder here top right corner of your screen and see in third Langenfelder in fourth place
21:48Tripling in to the GoPro waves. Oh
21:51He's down folks up front. Just push him too hard
21:54He'll pick himself up quickly though, but you need to readjust that sir visor because he's not seeing a lot out of there
22:00Got the novice look going on there. Yeah
22:03Goggles strap off the back. You have a great picture of that. That would be one you could just remind him of him forever
22:08You know, I don't have a meme like that
22:12I'll leave that to you JT
22:15Sander has been chipping away for Austria. He's at the 13th
22:18He's made his way past the Japanese rider Yokoyama
22:21And I wonder how much of this was the Sun because the Sun's just starting to drop now just lost focus
22:25Just comes in too hot folds the front he's pushing there. He's pushing the front right? He's full weaning all the way in
22:32Yeah, you see the visor there
22:33But he's hoping no one had a shot now. He's just backed it off. Look you can see
22:38He gave his best shot. That's that's the thing. He was he was false in there now. It's okay, but he's a threat
22:43Let's just bring it home in second. He's a threat for sure
22:47And actually when you think of the lap times that we had earlier on in the day
22:51So in the MXGP pre-practice Jorge Prado was quickest with a
22:56156.8
22:59Yeah, Lucas Koonin was a two minute point four two oh two for Jett Lawrence
23:04And the track was significantly going away
23:06You see Langefelder weaning on that inside as well
23:08But the track got slower as the day went on
23:10But if you tell me that a guy like Lucas Koonin starts inside the top five tomorrow afternoon the combined modos
23:16I think he could be in the fight. I don't know that he could beat Jorge Prado
23:20But battling inside the top three all day would not surprise me
23:24So Vial on his last lap it was six seconds as they hit the line Koonin backing off is now almost nine seconds
23:30Langefelder great ride for him
23:32He's there in third Anstey fourth about three and a half seconds further back that brings
23:36Team GB up the order to eighth for their gate pick on
23:40Sunday's races only Conrad news to go out for team Britain Great Britain
23:44But Tom Vial and Roman Pevra in about a half a lap time their races are done and it's down to Maxime Renaud now
23:52Can he secure the top split for?
23:55France because they're leading the way by five points as it stands right now
23:58With Germany on nine so France for Germany nine Spain ten the Netherlands ten the USA on 14
24:06with two seventh place finishes
24:09It was interesting Isaac Gifting on the
24:12Paddock show talk just a moment ago from the paddock with Ben Rumboldt the
24:18Isaac Gifting said you know what I kind of set my bike up
24:22Differently for the track thought it would ride different
24:24I think everybody did a lot softer a lot deeper is dried out very very quickly
24:27And I wonder if a lot of riders will be going heading back making those changes
24:31Tom Vial wins the MX to REM qualifying race here picking up from where he left off a year ago
24:38strong performance
24:39Not to be unexpected
24:42So interesting comments from Isaac Gifting at the end of the MXGP qualifying race where he talked about that
24:48And I just wonder how many of the more you know riders teams coming in
