Liverpool lose Alisson to injury as squad depth continues to look light

00:00So we're looking at Liverpool and their sort of squad situation that we spoke about that

00:05they've got quite a tight, small squad this season. Obviously, it was no secret that they

00:09had such a small and quiet transfer window in the summer and, you know, for Arne Schot's first

00:15season, he was sort of confident in the group but, you know, you are going to have to react

00:19when injuries start to kick in and Alisson, you know, such a huge key player in this side.

00:25What's the thoughts following his, you know, possible injury and his situation? I know

00:31there's, you know, it can change so quickly as they found out, you know, a few years ago as well,

00:36where you have all these big players and big names and then they start to drop like flyers

00:41and the complete squad looks completely different and, you know, results can start to sort of drop

00:47and, you know, competing across all competitions becomes quite a struggle.

00:52Yeah, it's a blow for Liverpool but I think the unfortunate thing is it's not a massive

00:57surprise when Alisson gets an injury and it should be for a goalkeeper but, during his time at

01:05Liverpool, he has had injury issues, you know, he had one last season, I think he had two spells on

01:10the sidelines and he missed a game early in the campaign and, yeah, he went down with a hamstring

01:18issue and was spotted limping, leaving Southampton Park. So, I think that's what Liverpool fans are,

01:27I don't want to say disappointed but, you know, they've always become accustomed to Alisson being

01:32a little bit injury prone, which is a surprise for a goalkeeper. But Liverpool, look, in the summer,

01:38he could have potentially sold Kovic and Kelleher, he made it no secret that he wants to go out and

01:43play regular football but Liverpool have said they need two strong goalkeepers. That's probably a reason

01:49why they kept Kelleher around, to be frank, because maybe they knew that Alisson, for as good as he is,

01:55and as, you know, Arnold Slot called him the best goalkeeper in the world after the game, but

02:00they do know that he can break down, Bozzi can break down and they need a top-class keeper

02:06in the background. So, yeah, Kelleher looks like he's going to get a chance, did really well in two

02:12games earlier this season, did really well last season when he has a sustained spell in the campaign.

02:18And, you know, again, Liverpool went and bought Giorgio Mane and Sevilla from Valencia as Arnold Slot's

02:26first sign and clearly Liverpool are planning for the future there and maybe looking at Alisson's

02:31deal, I think he's got maybe two years left on his deal, maybe looking and thinking, well, he's going

02:36to be 33 at that point, maybe we shake hands and say you've been a fantastic servant, but we

02:43need to move on and, you know, Mane and Sevilla will be the future. So, it is a big blow for Liverpool.

02:49I'm sure Alisson will be assessed, but I would think he's going to be out for a number of weeks.
