00:00The government's goal is to provide facilities and services related to cancer care.
00:06This is the next step in opening a cancer care center in the East Avenue Medical Center.
00:12This is the story of Vel Custodio.
00:16The cancer care center in the East Avenue Medical Center has been opened to the public.
00:21Priscila has been taking medicine for two years against ovarian cancer.
00:25Every three weeks, she goes back to the EAMC to take her medicine.
00:30That's why it's a big deal for her to have a facility for cancer care.
00:36It accommodates everyone. It's not as tight as it used to be.
00:39But now, it's better.
00:41Hazel has been fighting stage 4 breast cancer for six years.
00:46She witnessed how the EAMC and DOH continue to improve the facility and services.
00:52In the old tumor clinic, it wasn't this big and spacious.
00:59With so many patients who came for chemo, now it's much better.
01:05The facilities are much better.
01:08It's much more helpful for us.
01:14The cancer care center hopes to increase the number of facilities and services related to cancer care.
01:20At present, 200 chairs are offered in the hospital for cancer patients' therapy.
01:26Some of the services are emergency oncology, medical oncology, nuclear medicine, and breast care.
01:33Based on a study in 2023, cancer is the third leading cause of death in the Philippines.
01:39That's why the increased facilities and services are a big help,
01:43especially since 80% of cancers are treatable by oncology.
01:48There needs to be a referral center like this.
01:52If not, even if you are diagnosed with cancer,
01:59you won't be able to receive treatment because there's no such center.
02:03Cancer management at the community level is part of universal healthcare.
02:09There are trained barangay health workers
02:13who will refer patients to the primary facilities
02:16so that they can get the first detection.
02:21Department of Health Secretary Teodoro Herbosa recommended the inauguration program
02:26where he approved the introduction of the Act for HPV Vaccination.
02:30HPV vaccination is an anti-cancer drug for cervical cancer.
02:35So next year, I can vaccinate all 9 years old with HPV.
02:40Dr. Alfonso Nunez III of EAMC is also present at the inauguration.
02:44Dr. Mary Claire Suleiman is the cancer care head.
02:48Senator Bong Go sent a video message.
02:51According to Dr. Dean Doroque,
02:53providing facilities for PET scan is the next target of EAMC for cancer patients.
