00:00The government-assured disaster response options are in place and ready for affected Filipinos in the Ilocos region,
00:08including preemptive evacuation if the need arises.
00:12Local authorities are also constantly assessing the situation in their respective areas
00:17to be able to act promptly to address the needs of residents.
00:21BTV Patrick Desus has more.
00:25Ilocos Norte, including here in Lawag City, is now experiencing rainfall.
00:31According to the LGU, Lawag becomes a catch basin for neighboring areas during heavy rains, leading to flooding.
00:40All the water that flows out to our adjacent municipalities comes from here.
00:51That's why Lawag City is a catch basin.
00:54So our number one hazard is flooding.
00:59As a result, the province remains alert, having recently been hit by Super Typhoon Julia.
01:06Evacuation centers are ready for residents.
01:09Needing refuge, each family has its own room with proper beds.
01:15There's even a couple's room for partners who want some private time.
01:20Various relief packs containing food and rice are prepositioned at evacuation centers in Lawag.
01:27Family kits, hygiene kits, and sleeping kits will also be distributed immediately.
01:33Lawag City is very far from the regional office.
01:37Although they have a warehouse here, we are 23 LGUs here in Ilocos Norte.
01:45And with this, having the kits here right at the evacuation center, they can be immediately attended to.
01:55Rescue equipment is ready for deployment if needed for evacuation,
02:00such as rescue boats of the Ilocos Norte Provincial Government to be used in responding to flood-prone areas in the province.
02:08The Office of Civil Defense Ilocos Region has ordered all LGUs to enforce preemptive evacuation in flood-prone and landslide-prone areas.
02:19We've seen what's happening in Bicolsa right now.
02:23The water is fast.
02:25Especially if the flood is coming from the mountains.
02:30It's easier to provide aid than to retrieve the boats.
02:36So, as much as possible, we don't want to have any casualties or injuries.
02:43Let's remember that this flood is almost nationwide.
02:48We cannot ask for help right now.
02:51So we have to be by ourselves here in Region 1 because of what is happening in Bicol and other areas.
