00:00The two Filipinos caregivers are in jail after their employer fired them
00:04even though their contract in South Korea is not over yet.
00:08They plan to study the Caregiver Pilot Program in South Korea and the Philippines.
00:14Watch out for Marizomal.
00:20Like other overseas Filipino workers,
00:23the registered midwife and caregiver Arlene dreams of going abroad
00:27for a better opportunity.
00:29The country she wants to go to is South Korea, a popular destination for many Filipinos.
00:35It's a big dream for me.
00:37I also want to go there because I heard that South Korea is beautiful.
00:44But her dream of working in South Korea is possible in the future.
00:49The Philippines and South Korea are currently studying
00:52the six-month pilot program for caregivers.
00:56The two Filipinos together with 100 caregivers were arrested
01:01after they were first sent to South Korea.
01:03According to the Department of Migrant Workers,
01:05the two caregivers left their jobs even though their contract is only in the first month.
01:10They are having a hard time because they are overworked.
01:13They saw a job that offered employment as a cleaner.
01:18That's why they were arrested, because of their employer's change.
01:22For now, the two are stuck in South Korean immigration in Busan
01:26while the investigation continues.
01:28It's a bit of a paradox in the sense that we have to go through the process
01:31of investigating the two.
01:33In terms of timeline, we can't answer yet
01:36because we don't know when their investigation will end.
01:40The Philippines and South Korea are considering an isolated case
01:44of what happened to the two caregivers who left.
01:46For now, the DMW and the Korean Ministry of Employment and Labor
01:52are working on a program to solve the issues and problems
01:55that arose in the first part of the agreement.
01:57The DMW said that the two Filipinos will be given legal assistance.
02:01And if they are deported, they will also be given financial assistance
02:04from the Action Fund of the DMW for the distressed workers.
