00:00Meanwhile, our internist and health and wellness doctor, Dr. Oye, is here to answer some of the questions that you sent us on our Facebook page.
00:09Good morning, Doc!
00:11Good morning, Kapuso! And good morning, Connie!
00:14Dr. Oye, first question for you.
00:16He's been feeling dizzy for one and a half months, as if he's riding a bus.
00:21His findings are BTPV or Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo.
00:28The question is, is there an exercise he can do?
00:32But he's still feeling dizzy and his feelings are not easing.
00:36What can he do for this?
00:39The question is from Amie Berman.
00:42Amie, I'm sure it's just your vertigo that's the cause of it.
00:47Because there are also a lot of spasms.
00:51But Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo,
00:54one of the most common spasms is when we have calcium crystals.
01:00That's what causes your vertigo.
01:03The exercise you're doing is to dislodge or clear it up, those calcium crystals.
01:11But there are a lot of other spasms.
01:13But usually, the vertigo or Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo,
01:17they call it idiopathic.
01:19They don't really know the cause of it.
01:22But there are also a lot of other reasons why you get vertigo,
01:25especially if it has something to do with your age.
01:28So, I don't know how old you are.
01:30But if you're really persistent and the exercise you're doing doesn't work,
01:36then it's better if the vertigo is a symptom that is not neglected.
01:40And it's better if you can be assisted by a doctor.
01:43He has a stomachache and the medicine is over.
01:47The problem is, he's still feeling dizzy and his feelings are not easing.
01:51That question is from Patenio Cecil.
01:54Cecil, if your stomachache is tuberculosis and the medicine is over,
01:59TB is not the only cause of prolonged vertigo.
02:04We also have what we call Cough Variant Asthma,
02:08or sometimes what we call Allergic Cough.
02:12It can also be that.
02:13If those are the symptoms, we need to know what is the allergen
02:18that will trigger the vertigo in your body.
02:22That's why you get vertigo.
02:24You know, in our body, we also have what we call an immune system.
02:30So, if there is a perceived allergen or any danger,
02:35it will activate and release mediators,
02:38like chemical mediators that will trigger vertigo.
02:43Because vertigo is a defensive mechanism of our body,
02:47especially for those who want to enter our intestines.
02:51That's why you get vertigo.
02:53So, we need to know if it triggers prolonged vertigo
02:57and if it's not connected to your actual stomachache.
03:01Our latest health updates this Sunday.
03:03Always remember, as long as we are talking about health, you must stay updated.
03:09Meanwhile, back to our Facebook question for you, Doc Oye,
03:12from Neri Ann Adriatico Aguilar,
03:14who was diagnosed with chronic myeloid leukemia.
03:17She was given medication again.
03:20Her question is, is it normal for her face to turn white?
03:24Neri, I'm sorry.
03:26This feeling is really severe.
03:30But imatinib is a type of chemotherapy.
03:34One of its side effects is hypopigmentation.
03:39That's why your skin turns white.
03:41Because it inhibits melanocytes,
03:47where melanin is produced.
03:50So, while you're taking this medication,
03:52it inhibits it, and that's why the color of our skin is lost.
03:55That's why you turn white.
03:57But your medication is not continuous.
04:00Hopefully, when the effect or side effect of imatinib stops,
04:07the old color of your skin will return.
04:10For our next and last question, Doc, for you.
04:12A question from Linlin Bondal.
04:14What is prohibited and not prohibited in thyroid problems?
04:19Linlin, what type of thyroid problem?
04:21Because there are a lot of thyroid problems.
04:23Is it hypothyroidism?
04:25Is it hyperthyroidism?
04:27But what I will tell you is,
04:29there are substances or nutrients that can help
04:33to improve the production of thyroid hormones
04:37or your thyroid gland
04:39to balance the production of your thyroid hormone.
04:43Like amino acids,
04:45those are important, or from protein.
04:48Or B vitamins, particularly B1, B3, and B5 vitamins.
04:53Those are important.
04:54Of course, minerals are very important.
04:57Zinc and selenium.
04:59Our thyroid gland needs those
05:02to produce thyroid hormones
05:04that our body's system needs.
05:08Thank you so very much, Doc Oye,
05:10for answering our questions.
05:12Of course, our call is for you
05:14to send us your Facebook questions
05:16so that we can read them next week.
