00:00What's good, I am Slime Green Beats, and this is an FL Studio Melody Tutorial for 2024.
00:07What's up, y'all? Hold up. Hold up.
00:14Trust me, I try to start every video highly organized and professional.
00:18All right, there we go. All right. So, oh yeah, before we get started,
00:23make sure you guys check out the How to Mix Beats book, brought to you by Slime Green Beats. This
00:27is our new book, How to Mix Beats. You can get it on Amazon, link in the description,
00:33product link below. It's also on our website, slimegreenbeats.com. You can get it wherever.
00:40And it's about mixing beats, I know, right? Who would have thought, right? Who would have thought?
00:46How to Mix Beats, brought to you by Slime Green Beats, the newest in Slime Green Beats.
00:51Okay. So, we're going to make a melody here. I'm just going to show you the whole process
00:57and just talk about it and whatnot. So, the first thing is you want to find a nice sound.
01:07And also, let's save our beat. Let's save our beat and call it good sound. I mean,
01:13you don't have to call it that, but... All right. So, I always save just because
01:18they still like it in case it crashes for whatever reason. It's happened to me before,
01:23but anyways. So, Flex is a nice place to find nice sounds, really nice natural sounds. Everybody has
01:35Flex. Flex is a newer VST, brought to you by FL Studio. FL Studio is homegrown VST, I'm pretty
01:44sure. Again, just go to Add, Flex. And you can also sort here by Simple. I like it in Simple,
01:51so it's alphabetical. And just pick a sound. Central Pianos is good. I like piano sounds. So,
02:00this is kind of like where you kind of put your own personality. Like, what type of sound do you
02:03like? I like synths. I like guitars. I like pianos. We'll do piano today. So, let's just pick a nice
02:10piano sound. I'll switch to, like, the keyboard cam so you can kind of see what's going on here,
02:16playing-wise. All right. This is a solid piano sound.
02:40Okay. So, like, when I'm playing, just for beginners, we'll just focus on just the white
02:53keys this time. I'm not going to talk about the black keys, but definitely study Piano Theory.
02:59It'll teach you all about playing piano. It's actually a lot easier than you probably think.
03:03I just started studying Piano Theory not too long ago. I've just been practicing on my own and just
03:08kind of, like, picking sounds that I think sound good. But I think Piano Theory has helped me a bit.
03:13And basically, you're just, like, kind of skipping, like, every other note
03:17when you're, like, playing. So, I wouldn't play, like... Let's go to, like, this thing here.
03:22I wouldn't play, like, these two notes, like that. And that sounds trash. But if you skip them,
03:29it's like... See how much better that sounds than that? So, it's like, you're skipping them. It's
03:34the same thing with the black keys. I'll just demo. But you do kind of want to listen and make
03:44sure you're just hitting the right keys. Like, I don't have every single scale memorized. I think
03:48that's just unrealistic. But if you just study Piano Theory, you'll, like, understand, like...
03:57Like, what they're supposed to sound like. So, we'll just, like, do that. There's a lot of
04:00different ways to play piano, obviously. Like, you know, you could literally make, like, a thousand
04:04trillion different patterns. And, like, you know... That's kind of the beauty of it. The beauty of
04:11music. It's, like, it's kind of, like, infinite. All right. So, anyways. So, like, I'll just record
04:18basically like this. I'll just be, like...
04:32Oh, yeah. I try to, like, sing along with it to see, like... This is an important step because
04:48it's, like... It needs to be, like... If we're going to have a vocal artist on it, it needs to
04:52be, like, vocal capable, if you will. So, I'm just, like...
05:06So, something like that. Let's just get that right on beat. So, like...
05:29That's about it.
05:36That's cool.
05:49All right. So, I'll just, like, turn it off. That's why... That's the beauty of FL. You can
05:56edit it. It doesn't have to be perfect. You can play it.
05:59I don't know why it's so off-pitch.
06:15Yeah.
06:20Ooh. So, this is a... What looks like a seven bar pattern.
06:35A little unusual, but... I'm trying to... I'm trying to make it even, like, make it eight, but...
06:43All right. Let's go, like, alt... Alt-R. I always do this. So, I control-A, alt-R, highlight
06:55everything, and kind of randomize it. So, the randomizing, it just kind of, like, randomizes
06:59the velocities of the notes. So, it just sounds more, kind of, like, natural. Like, when you're
07:06playing, you wouldn't necessarily hit all the notes exactly, like... Or, like, an actual piano,
07:11like, all super evenly, right? Let's switch to the... I like... I scale the velocity. Oh, shoot.
07:29So, I'll bring it up and down. See if I like that more.
07:37All right. We can make this even longer, too.
07:53I like a slight variation to the second part.
08:03All right. All right. So, it's, like, long fluid pattern. Sounds pretty good. Save. All right. So...
08:20All right. So, let's just copy this. What we're going to do now is... Can we find a better sound
08:25than this? Again, like, a lot of it is just the sound that you choose, and the pattern equals
08:31melody. Like, sound pattern, how you mix it, too, which I'll show. Melody. And, again, don't
08:38underestimate the sound part. I always say that in videos, but
08:42I definitely mean that. And I'm going to use a great synth known as Nexus.
08:51All right. Oh, god. Hold on a second. What do I always have to do? Sorry, I had to activate it,
08:57which was highly annoying. Okay. All right. Let's go to SynthC. What is that sound?
09:11Is that Nexus? What in the world?
09:21Oh, my god. There's always something going on when I'm recording.
09:24What is that sound? Hold on a second. Okay. That was weird, but let's move on.
09:41Okay. Copy. So, I'm going to look for another sound. Nexus is just so weird sometimes.
09:50It's like every time I pull up Nexus, something happens.
09:55All right. We're going to stick with it, though.
10:00Okay. So, now we're just going to look for another sound in Nexus.
10:13Let's go with the synth. Let's make this smaller so I can see it.
10:19Okay. Seeing the VST helps, definitely. Okay.
10:34That one's pretty good. Angels Road.
10:38I could just stop there. I really could.
10:48All right.
11:07It's pretty good, too.
11:18It sounds good, but it feels like there's a delay.
11:49All right.
11:55All right.
12:13Let's take a time here. Let's go back to that Caribbean Dream one.
12:19Kind of matches my shirt.
12:20Pretty good. Pretty good sound. I usually would turn it down a little bit.
12:26We've got to fit other sounds on this track, so I like to keep it in a very healthy green.
12:37You can mess with all these effects. I'll show some effects. Obviously, there's Fruity Convolver.
12:42If you want even more reverb, it does sound pretty nice.
12:49There's the Fruity Love filter, which I think is good for melody effects.
12:55Let's get the default sound on there.
12:59That sounds pretty dope, right?
13:08And at this point, we can end the melody process.
13:15Let's try this out.
13:23So, and at this point, you know, we can end the melody process, or we can just keep going.
13:32So at this point, I'm always, I always warn, like, you know, it could sound worse if you
13:37keep trying to add sounds, but it could sound better.
13:41So let's just keep it rolling.
13:49So sometimes you can just pick the exact same sound, let's do that, get a new pattern, put
13:56this back at one half beat, let's record a new pattern.
15:22Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah,
15:50yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
15:54It's gonna be hard to record.
15:58Let's add a little bit more space so I can, like, make sure I record this right.
16:04All right.
16:18Something like that.
16:19Let's just go.
16:29Hey.
16:32Where are we going?
16:49Alright, this has got a little tricky, but that's kind of what we're on with here.
17:19So obviously if we want to copy this to a different, we got to like remember where it
17:32ends and whatnot.
17:33That's it for this vid.
17:34I think I'll just wrap it up there.
17:36Obviously, you can try a bunch of different effects.
17:40There's a lot of effects.
17:41There's a lot, and they all do something different.
17:44So just have fun with that.
