National weather forecast presented by Alex Deakin
Transcript
00:00Hello, it's going to be an interesting week of weather.
00:03Monday starting with a bit of a north-south split.
00:06The satellite picture is a fairly messy situation,
00:10with the UK hiding somewhere under here.
00:12But this was taken through the early hours.
00:14You can see this swirl of cloud.
00:15That's an area of low pressure that's just drifting up
00:18to the north of Northern Ireland.
00:20It's bringing plenty of showers here.
00:22But the band of rain across England and Wales,
00:24well, that is shrinking away.
00:25And so for most of England and Wales, the rest of Monday,
00:28set fair, dry and bright.
00:29But close to that low, it's pretty blustery,
00:31gusty winds over Northern England, Scotland,
00:33and Northern Ireland.
00:34And across Scotland and Northern Ireland,
00:36plenty of showers packing in.
00:37Although by the end of the day, they
00:39should be easing in Northern Ireland,
00:40with some sunny spells developing.
00:42Plenty of hazy sunshine for England and Wales.
00:45The wind's fairly light across the south as well.
00:47And it's pretty warm for the time of year.
00:49Could squeak up to 19 in the capital.
00:51Generally, we're looking at temperatures
00:52in the mid to high teens.
00:54Cooler feel, though, for Scotland and Northern Ireland.
00:57Under that low pressure, which will
00:58continue to bring some heavy showers, particularly
01:00across the Northeast and the Northern Isles
01:03as we go through this evening.
01:04In fact, right the way through the night,
01:06northerly winds will bring showers
01:08into Caithness, Sutherland, and the Northern Isles.
01:10But elsewhere, most places become dry and clear.
01:13But we are going to start to see some fog patches forming.
01:16And those fog patches could be quite dense in a few spots
01:20by the morning time.
01:21Temperature-wise, well, under clear skies with light winds,
01:24it's going to turn pretty chilly.
01:26We could easily see some pockets of frost
01:27in parts of Northern Ireland and rural spots
01:29across Northern England, too.
01:31Generally, we're down to low single figures for most.
01:34So a fresh start to Tuesday.
01:36And there will be that fog around parts of Northern
01:38Ireland, northwest England, down through the Welsh Marches,
01:41and across the Midlands.
01:42Even southern parts of England could have that fog.
01:44Getting to that time of year where it takes a few hours
01:47may well still be lingering, certainly
01:48through the rush hour and perhaps even beyond that.
01:51So during Tuesday, it's by and large a dry and a fine day.
01:54A bit more cloud, a bit more breeze
01:56picking up in the southwest.
01:58Staying fairly breezy in the far north
02:00with maybe the odd shower for the northerners.
02:02But generally, dry and bright with sunny spouts
02:04once that fog has cleared away.
02:07And temperatures responding to that October sunshine.
02:10Again, quite mild for the time of year in the south.
02:1217, 18 degrees, generally 12 to 15 Celsius elsewhere.
02:18Just notice the breeze picking up in the southwest, though.
02:20The cloud thickening up.
02:22There is some outbreaks of rain down here.
02:25And they are just edging closer,
02:27those outbreaks of rain, as we go through Tuesday evening.
02:29Still, most places will be dry and fine.
02:32Again, some mist and fog is possible.
02:33But not in the southwest as the winds start to pick up.
02:36This line of rain is actually a set of weather fronts
02:39tied into an area of low pressure
02:41that will dominate the weather for much of this week.
02:44Around it, kind of spawning other little weather systems
02:46that travel northwards.
02:48They'll bring bands of showers across the country.
02:50The isobar is quite close together as well.
02:53So it's often going to be windy this week.
02:55There will be bands of heavy showers moving northwards.
02:58But because of the position of this low,
03:01if we rewind the clock and where the winds are coming from,
03:04they're drawing up warmer air from Spain
03:08and from France all the while.
03:09So it's going to be quite mild through this week as well,
03:12particularly between the bands of showers
03:14where we see some sunshine.
03:16Temperatures could be really quite high
03:17for this time of year.
03:19So we're looking at spells of rain this week,
03:21often windy, but also at times fairly warm.
