00:00Welcome to your national weather update.
00:02It's another day of some sunshine and also
00:06some heavy showers.
00:07But in places, those showers are going to be pretty lively
00:09with the potential for further thunderstorms
00:12that could cause some disruption.
00:14The image from space is a messy one.
00:16Lots of cloud heading northwards of wet starts
00:18across northeastern parts of Scotland.
00:20But that rain is scooting through
00:21and it's further south where we are concerned
00:24about the showers breaking out.
00:25We've already seen a big thunderstorm
00:27across northern parts of Wales this morning.
00:29And it's in this zone, Wales, southwest England,
00:31parts of the West Midlands, where
00:33we're going to see slow-moving, heavy, thundery showers
00:37through this afternoon.
00:38Now, because they'll be slow-moving,
00:40the rainfall could really build up and cause some problems.
00:42A lot of spray, surface water on the roads,
00:44the potential for local flooding.
00:46But also because they're slow-moving,
00:48they will be hit and miss.
00:49So not everywhere we'll see those showers.
00:52Across the rest of the UK, the showers
00:53will come and go as well.
00:55But probably not too many over eastern England.
00:57Decent chance of staying dry here.
00:59And in the sunny spells, top temperature 2021.
01:02For most, though, we're only in the high teens,
01:04so feeling rather cool.
01:05And we'll see more of those heavy showers breaking out
01:08through the late afternoon into the evening.
01:10A greater risk of some heavy downpours
01:12then over parts of northern England and southern Scotland.
01:15Tending to fade in many places, the showers tonight.
01:18But we'll keep some going over the Midlands and northeast
01:21England through the early hours.
01:23Elsewhere, it does turn generally dry
01:26and temperatures will dip down to 12 or 13 Celsius.
01:29Maybe down to 9 or 10 along the south coast of England.
01:33Onto Friday, and it is another day of sunshine and showers.
01:36Certainly some heavy ones around first thing
01:38over parts of northeast England and the Midlands.
01:40Should fade from here, but then we're
01:42looking at another area of rain pushing back
01:44into northeastern parts of Scotland during the morning.
01:48And then, again, look at this.
01:49The showers just break out as the warmth of the sun
01:52gets going.
01:53A bit of a difference, I think, tomorrow
01:55is that there'll be a bit more of a breeze.
01:57The showers will be moving through.
01:59And I don't think we'll see too many of a Wales
02:01and southwest England.
02:02Good chance of a dry afternoon here.
02:03No, it's mostly going to be across the Midlands
02:05and eastern England, central and eastern Scotland.
02:09Later on, however, there's more rain
02:11pushing into northern Ireland.
02:13Temperature wise, well, I think we'll
02:15be a little bit warmer on Friday 19, 20, 21, maybe 22
02:19with some sunny spells across parts of the east.
02:21As I say, not much of the south coast or the southwest
02:25seeing too many showers on Friday afternoon.
02:27But this next line of rain coming into northern Ireland,
02:30that could be pretty heavy as it moves in during Friday evening.
02:33Could be some quite gusty winds with that as well.
02:36And the winds just suddenly start
02:38to pick up as this line of nasty looking rain sweeps in.
02:42And that will then spread to western parts of Scotland
02:44during Friday night.
02:46That's this weather system here.
02:47It'll bring some rain across England and Wales
02:49for a time during Saturday.
02:51High pressure is then building down to the southwest.
02:54It is trying to move in.
02:57And that means that southwestern parts in particular
02:59are looking mostly dry through Sunday.
03:01But elsewhere, there will still be a mixture of sunshine
03:04and showers on Sunday.
03:06Signs next week that that high might
03:07start to take more of a bit of control across the UK,
03:11drying things out.
03:12But until then, plenty of showers around.
03:14Watch out for some heavy downpours today.
