26 August - National weather forecast presented by Alex Deakin
Transcript
00:00Hello. Welcome to your national weather updates.
00:03A bank holiday weekend for much of the UK and for most places.
00:07It's going to be dry as well.
00:09It was far from dry yesterday across the east.
00:11That line of cloud that brought the heavy rain has cleared away
00:14and a bit of a switch around today with most of the showers further west.
00:19Some scattered showers across Wales and one or two heavy ones
00:22likely in southwest Scotland this afternoon.
00:25Elsewhere, many places will be dry.
00:27Maybe the odd shower for southwest England, eastern parts of Northern Ireland.
00:30Some sunny spells in the far northwest and for much of central and eastern England.
00:34It's a much brighter day than yesterday with some decent spells of sunshine
00:38and temperatures getting into the low to maybe mid-20s.
00:42Cooler conditions across southwest Scotland.
00:45Elsewhere, we've got the thicker cloud across parts of Wales.
00:47Temperatures only really in the high teens.
00:50As we go through this evening, it'll turn fairly fresh fairly quickly, I suspect.
00:54We're still going to have a few showers around across Wales and southwest Scotland.
00:58They'll take a while before they fade away.
01:00Some may keep going overnight across northwest England.
01:03But for most, it'll be a dry night.
01:05Could turn a bit misty and murky across southeast England and east Anglia.
01:08Any mist and fog will clear pretty quickly on Saturday morning.
01:11But just to bear that in mind if you're heading away
01:14for the bank holiday weekend early on on Saturday.
01:17Temperature-wise, a pretty comfortable night.
01:20Certainly a lot less humid than it was earlier in the week.
01:23Temperatures across western Scotland through northern Ireland well down into single figures.
01:27A bright fresh start here with some decent spells of sunshine.
01:31As I said, some mist and fog across east Anglia and the southeast early on.
01:34That will clear away.
01:36Now, it's not completely dry on Saturday.
01:38We are looking at a few showers again, particularly over parts of northern England.
01:42Maybe one or two over the Midlands, Wales and perhaps even southern England.
01:46But I think here, few and far between.
01:48For the vast majority, it will be dry.
01:50There is thickening cloud coming into the northwest,
01:52so turning a bit grey over the Western Isles, the north coast of northern Ireland.
01:55Perhaps seeing a little drizzle later on.
01:57But for a good chunk of the country, it's dry, it's bright.
02:01Good spells of sunshine and feeling pretty warm as well
02:04with temperatures mostly into the low to mid-20s across the south.
02:09As we head through Saturday evening, a bit more of that thick cloud and rain
02:13will just trickle into the northwest of Scotland.
02:16And again, perhaps affecting northern parts of northern Ireland.
02:19Still maybe one or two showers over northern England.
02:21But for most, it will be dry and clear.
02:23Notice the breeze starting to pick up a little bit around some of the coast.
02:26That will be a feature of the weather, more particularly through Sunday and Monday.
02:30High pressure is moving in.
02:32It's building in from the north, however.
02:35And that means, although Sunday will be pretty warm, by the time we get to Monday,
02:39it will be turning a little fresher, particularly on these eastern coasts.
02:42And the isobar squeezing together along the south coast
02:45means here it will get quite gusty as well on Sunday and Monday.
02:50So high pressure is moving in.
02:52A lot of fine weather this weekend.
02:54Most places will be dry and bright with sunny spells.
02:57But just notice that some of the coasts will be a little bit windy, especially by Monday.
03:02More details on all of that, of course, if you follow us right across social media.
