06 January - National Weather Forecast presented by Alex Deakin.

00:00The weather patterns are shifting. For most of us, it's going to be a dry weekend.
00:05Now, it's not completely dry this morning. There's some outbreaks of rain here and there,
00:09northeast England, down towards the Midlands, but it's fairly light and patchy,
00:12nothing like the heavy extensive rain we had earlier in the week.
00:15Some lively showers over Shetland. They should be easing away.
00:19And a few showers just drifting down across the north and the east of Northern Ireland,
00:23clipping West Wales and into Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly.
00:26But for many, it's dry, particularly in the west, quite a lot of sunshine around.
00:31Some fog patches around this morning, and that fog could be slow to clear.
00:35And if the fog does struggle to clear, temperatures will struggle to get much above 2 or 3 degrees.
00:40But where it brightens up, 5, 6, maybe 7, 8, 9 in the far southwest.
00:44Feeling colder than recent days, particularly in the east if you're stuck under that zone of cloud.
00:50As we go through this evening, where we've got the clear skies, we'll see the frost returning pretty sharply.
00:55We'll also see some fog thickening up once more through the evening and overnight,
00:59becoming a bit more extensive perhaps than last night.
01:02Still the odd shower here and there.
01:04Wherever we've got some potential for showers with those temperatures dropping,
01:07it may just turn a little bit icy.
01:09But temperatures mostly getting down to freezing, certainly in rural spots.
01:14Towns and cities in the south may just hover a little bit above.
01:17But generally a cold frosty start to Sunday.
01:20There will be a few fog patches around, which will again be stubborn and slow to clear.
01:25Still quite cloudy at times over central and eastern England.
01:28But I'm hopeful that cloud will break up a little bit more to reveal a bit more in the way of sunshine.
01:33Notice this wind picking up coming in from the North Sea.
01:36That will bring a real chill, I fancy, across parts of East Anglia and along the southernmost counties of England.
01:43Elsewhere, the winds will be fairly light, so if you get in the sunshine, it shouldn't feel too bad.
01:47The numbers will be down on where they have been recently,
01:50peaking at, what, 3, 2, maybe 5, 6 degrees in the south.
01:53So below average, as I said, lower than recently.
01:56And when you add on this wind, well, that will feel pretty wicked on these eastern coasts.
02:01Feels like temperatures much closer to freezing here.
02:05So yes, you'll notice the plummeting temperatures this weekend.
02:08It is going to be a bit colder, but thankfully it's also going to be a lot drier.
02:12The cold and dry weather may well last for most of next week.
