17 July - National weather forecast presented by Aidan McGivern
Transcript
00:00Hi there, this July we are in certain weather patterns that bring us rainy days and showery
00:06days. Tuesday for many will be a rainy day, Monday was a showery day and those showers
00:11tending to ease in most places overnight but a few continuing across the north of Scotland
00:16where there will also be a keen breeze. Where we've got the clear skies and light winds
00:20elsewhere temperatures will fall away and by dawn we're expecting in urban areas 10,
00:2511, 12 Celsius in rural parts I think into the single figures. So a fresh night, more
00:31comfortable for sleeping than you often get in July but certainly a bit on the cool side
00:37if you're out first thing. Plenty of sunshine across eastern and northern parts but towards
00:41the west we've got the cloud building. We've got an area of low pressure, a fairly slack
00:45area of low pressure but bringing with it some spells of wet weather. Those spells of
00:51wet weather pushing into Northern Ireland, North West England, South West Scotland and
00:56Wales first thing. This system tending to push across central parts through the day
01:01reaching the central belt of Scotland and perhaps parts of Cornwall and Devon by the
01:06end of the afternoon. And for much of Wales, the Midlands, Northern England it turns more
01:11showery, the more persistent rain affecting Northern Ireland, South West Scotland. Under
01:15the wet weather it's not going to feel very summer like, 15, 16 Celsius at best. Where
01:20we've got the brightest skies towards the south east, 23 Celsius possible. North of
01:25Scotland also sunny spells but a cool breeze from the north west bringing with it showers.
01:30Then into Tuesday evening, the persistent rain across these central areas continues
01:35for a time, eventually turns more showery. We keep a lot of cloud across this central
01:41part of the UK so perhaps not quite as cool overnight although in the far south, Northern
01:45Ireland, Northern and Western Scotland, clearing skies will result in temperatures dipping
01:50in some shelter spots below 10 Celsius. But I think a milder night and quite a warm start
01:57actually towards the south east on Wednesday. Here we've got some sunny spells and also
02:02some sunny spells across Scotland and Northern Ireland. In between a lot of cloud cover,
02:07the rain turning to showers across central parts and showers tending to break out fairly
02:10widely elsewhere. The driest and brightest conditions likely towards the south west so
02:15parts of West Wales, Devon, Cornwall, Dorset, Somerset and Kent as well as Sussex I suspect.
02:21But elsewhere across the country I think those showers will just about affect anyone. In
02:26between there will be some brighter weather but it will be a slightly cooler day compared
02:29with Tuesday, 21, 22 Celsius in the south, high to mid teens further north. Then into
02:36Wednesday night we see those showers ease away, a cool night follows and then Thursday
02:41we do it all again. Sunny spells and showers likewise on Friday but some more unsettled
02:46weather arriving into the weekend. Full details on our YouTube channel with the week ahead
02:50forecast. Bye bye.
