00:00Hello, good afternoon. There's some drier weather to come this evening but in
00:04general it's going to stay fairly unsettled through the next few days or
00:07so across the UK and we've seen some blustery showers already so far today.
00:11This is the radar picture from this morning. You can see some heavy bursts of
00:14rain moving in through the southwest and also across parts of Northern Ireland,
00:18Northern England and Southern Scotland and it's here where I think we'll
00:21continue to see the most persistent showers throughout today. The south and
00:25west will see the showers move into more eastern areas so it will turn a little
00:28bit drier for some but a continued risk of some showers. In between the showers
00:32there will be some clearer and drier weather and the winds are a little
00:35lighter as well today so there will be some windows of opportunity to be
00:39getting out and about. We'll also see some dry weather across central areas of
00:43Scotland but here we've got a cold northerly wind so we'll be feeling much
00:47chillier here and we'll start to see some snow showers falling over the
00:51Highlands. Then through this evening that colder weather becomes more dominant as
00:54we see a ridge of high pressure build in for the west just for a time before the
00:58next day of low pressure brings a spell of wet and windy weather throughout
01:02tomorrow. We've got warnings in force for wind, rain and snow for parts of
01:07Scotland so if you are travelling or planning on getting outside through
01:10Saturday it's worth taking a closer look at those warnings. So through this
01:14evening though that high pressure builds in and that will tend to dry things out
01:17so plenty of clear skies to come. The showers will likely continue for northern
01:21areas of England though and that clearer colder weather from Scotland
01:24then pushes further south and with those clearer skies we'll see a harsh frost
01:28developing particularly where we've got any lying snow across parts of Scotland
01:32but also potentially a frost into more eastern areas of England. We could be
01:36down as low as minus 10 in rural Scotland and closer to minus 4 or so
01:41further south. However in the south and west temperatures will start to climb by
01:45tomorrow morning as the cloud thickens. It should stay dry for most areas across
01:50the south coast through much of the morning but this batch of rain, quite
01:53heavy rain too, will arrive into Northern Ireland and Wales and here's where we're
01:57expecting the heaviest rain through Saturday so we do have rain warnings in
02:00force for Northern Ireland and Wales through much of the day on Saturday.
02:04Across the north and east after a bright start things will cloud over and it will
02:08deteriorate and as that rain falls into the colder air we've got a risk of snow
02:12particularly over the higher ground but some a couple of centimetres are possible
02:15to the lower levels of parts of the Highlands and there's a risk of some ice
02:19on the roads as well. The winds will also strengthen too particularly around
02:24this band of quite blustery rain you can see gusts close to 50 or 60 miles per
02:28hour but generally across the south coast is going to be a windy day through
02:32tomorrow. But as it's a southerly wind it will be a milder day, highs of 11 or 12
02:37degrees possibly 13 for many southern and central areas. In the far north
02:41though where we do see that risk of snow it's going to be feeling quite chilly
02:45through much of the day. Tomorrow evening that band of squally rain will
02:50push into more eastern areas to parts of the Midlands and then the southeast
02:53seeing that risk of heavy blustery rain into the evening and behind that we see
02:57the low-pressure system stay with us bringing us a blustery day on New Year's
03:02Eve so a continued risk of some gusty winds and heavy showers but there will
03:06be some dry interludes for some of us. See you later.
