12 December - National Weather Forecast presented by Annie Shuttleworth.
Transcript
00:00Good afternoon. Many of us will see heavy rain, some of us some thunder and potentially
00:05some hail through this afternoon. So it's going to be a rather unsettled rest of the
00:10day. You can see we've got a swirl of cloud wrapped around the UK. That's wrapped around
00:15this area of low pressure. That area of low pressure will move eastwards through the morning
00:19and into this afternoon. And behind it, we will see a lot of showers breaking out. We'll
00:24also see a drier spell of weather moving in overnight. But before then, there is plenty
00:29of heavy rain and showers to come. The rain and showers will break out across more central
00:34areas into the afternoon. There's a risk of hail and thunder. There could be some surface
00:38water on the roads, as well as some pretty gusty winds. There's also a risk of surface
00:43water across more northeastern areas of the UK, eastern Scotland, northeastern England
00:47where the ground is well saturated already. And as a result, there is a rain warning enforced
00:51through the course of the night and into the tomorrow morning as well. Under this cloud
00:56and rain across northeastern areas, it will feel quite cool. Further south, though, fairly
01:00mild for the time of year. But if you do get caught in any of those showers, it's not going
01:03to feel particularly pleasant. The rain across the northeast will slowly sink southwards
01:08throughout the course of the evening. So it does turn somewhat drier by the morning across
01:13much of Scotland. But ahead of that area of rain, we do see a lot of low clouds sink into
01:18more eastern areas and southeastern areas of the UK. So it will be quite a dull and
01:23damp start to the day across more eastern areas. Quite a different picture, though,
01:27across the northwest for parts of Northern Ireland and the Highlands and Islands of Scotland.
01:30It could be a cold and frosty start to the day. And that clear and drier weather will
01:35become a bit more widespread through the course of Wednesday, spreading into many central
01:40and southern areas of Scotland as well as much of Northern Ireland and into western
01:43areas of England and Wales by the afternoon. However, in the east, it will stay quite dull,
01:48I think, through much of the day tomorrow. Some drizzly rain breaking out by the afternoon
01:53too. And we've got more of a northerly breeze through the course of tomorrow. That's going
01:56to be feeding in more moisture to pep up that rain across the southeast into the afternoon.
02:01But it'll also bring a chillier feel. So seven or eight degrees cooler in the northwest.
02:06But with more sunshine and quite light winds, it won't feel too bad at all. Another change,
02:11though, comes Thursday. Thursday, where the front pushes eastwards across the country.
02:16But the rain off that front will fizzle out as high pressure builds from the south, introducing
02:20some quite mild air for the time of year by the weekend. So it's looking like a fairly
02:25dry weekend with temperatures rising by day and night.
