00:00Hello again and welcome to your latest update from the Met Office.

00:03On Boxing Day, a band of rain will continue to bring some hill snow across parts of the

00:07north and north-east.

00:08Elsewhere, a mixture of heavy showers and a few bright spells with the best of the brightness

00:13in the south-west.

00:14We're seeing some snow in places because a weather front is running into cold air as

00:18it moves north-eastwards across the UK into Boxing Day.

00:21However, the front will be followed by much milder air, so any snow will become increasingly

00:27confined to the high ground in the north.

00:30So coming back to Christmas Day evening, a band of locally heavy rain continue north-eastwards

00:35with a weather warning in place for parts of Northern Ireland.

00:38Where the rain encounters the cold air, it will turn to sleet and snow across parts of

00:42Northern England and Scotland and the snow is likely to settle on ground above about

00:46300 metres.

00:47Strong winds will combine with that snow to give some really tricky travelling conditions

00:51if you're out early on Boxing Day morning.

00:54It will be coldest in the far north, with temperatures falling as low as minus five

00:59in some of the Scottish Glens, but temperatures in towns and cities further south will remain

01:04above freezing.

01:06Boxing Day morning starts cloudy then, with rain continuing to move north-east and with

01:10outbreaks of snow continuing over the higher ground in the far north, bringing again difficult

01:15travelling conditions.

01:17Brighter weather does follow from the south-west, but also some heavy showers which will give

01:21some longer spells of rain in places.

01:23The best of any brighter spells will be in the south-west and here it will be mild with

01:27maximum temperatures in double figures, but it will be colder in the north with temperatures

01:32staying in single figures there.

01:35During Boxing Day evening there will be further rain at times, especially in central and north-eastern

01:39areas and with some snow continuing across the mountains of Scotland.

01:44Elsewhere under any clearer skies it will turn increasingly misty and murky, with some

01:48patchy fog forming in places.

01:50Looking further ahead into next week it will often be cloudy with some spells of rain,

01:55although there will be some dry and brighter periods too, and it will become very mild

01:58from mid-week onwards as Atlantic weather systems move across the UK.
