00:00These are cute. I don't even want to look at the price tag.
00:02They're $1,800.
00:10Hi, Harper's Bazaar. I'm Jenna Lyons, and I'm going to take you into one of my favorite places,
00:15Macalow Gallery, to look at some vintage jewelry.
00:23Vintage jewels are some of my favorite things, particularly when they sparkle.
00:26Years ago, when I was going on a red carpet, I wanted something special for a very simple outfit,
00:32and I was connected to the team at Macalow, and I realized they had some of the most exquisite, unusual pieces.
00:38So we've always been the Tiffany people, and so this bracelet here, it looks like something made as a piece of architecture.
00:45It really does. Isn't that cool?
00:47And that was the inspiration.
00:50Wow. I know growing up, I always associated diamonds and Tiffany's with New York,
00:55just obviously breakfast at Tiffany's, and I remember the very first time I came to New York with my mom.
00:59I remember clasping onto her and her walking through the streets and going into the Tiffany's store and just losing my little mind.
01:07I think I was like 10 years old, and it was the first time I went.
01:10I didn't grow up with diamond stores. We didn't have that where I was, and I could not believe my cute little eyes.
01:17This is so stunning.
01:20This is by Pierre Sterlet, one of the great French jewelers, and this would have been made probably into the 60s.
01:26I mean, look at her. She's just beautiful.
01:30I think a lot of people have a tendency to make these things precious and not wear them every day,
01:34and I feel like I actually find them more interesting to wear every day and wear with jeans,
01:38or when they're on a red carpet, the only time you wear diamonds, then they don't get their moment.
01:43It's interesting, the way that they catch the light in the daytime is so different.
01:47It wants to come home with me. Oh, my God.
01:49Yeah.
01:50Yeah, done on the back.
01:51Done on the back.
01:52Yeah.
01:53Real jewelry is done in three dimensions. It's a piece of sculpture.
01:56Oh, my God. Do you guys want to see this?
01:58Look it. The diamonds are on the back.
02:08Oh, God. These are stunning.
02:10I think that one's going to be the winner.
02:12I think it would be nice because I'd love to wear something like this.
02:14I think that's a great idea.
02:15Yeah.
02:16Oh.
02:17Yeah. Isn't that great?
02:18With the big one at the bottom.
02:19How much is this one?
02:20That one's like $10,000.
02:21Oh, and what about this guy?
02:22About the same.
02:23Really? Gorge. Love.
02:24Well, maybe I should do that instead of one big one. I kind of think that's more interesting.
02:28I like it, too. That looks like you.
02:30It's lovely to see you. Thank you so much.
02:31My pleasure.
02:32Have a great day.
02:33We'll talk soon.
02:36So this was our first time.
02:38Yeah.
02:39So this was our first stop.
02:40We just picked out some jewelry.
02:41And now we're going to go find denim at What Goes Around Comes Around.
02:45Hi. We are downtown at What Goes Around Comes Around.
02:49I have an obsession with vintage jeans, so we're going to go and take a look.
03:04Not bad.
03:05Not bad.
03:06Not bad.
03:08Not only can you find beautiful bags and clothing, but they also have an amazing denim bar, which is where I got these babies.
03:14These are literally like perfection.
03:16I like them, but I need more jeans.
03:18Something a little cleaner.
03:19We have some more options we can show you.
03:21I think we can maybe try it on and you can kind of see how that feels with a couple pairs.
03:25The thing that I like most about vintage jeans is everything has stretch in it now.
03:29And one of the things that stretch does is it makes the denim a little crepey.
03:34So it creates a funny little like texture to the denim, which also prevents it from washing down the way vintage denim washes down.
03:41So when you have two seams like this and see how the denim is like the color is sort of welling up, it's called pooling.
03:47A lot of stretch fabrics don't do that anymore.
03:53I didn't understand denim.
03:55Like when you actually start to work in it and start to look at fabrics and you're selecting fabrics, you start to understand.
04:00And it wasn't until I started working at J.Crew and got much more involved in denim that you start to get interested in the history and where things come from.
04:07Like there's things that are happening in this denim that are totally different than this one.
04:10So for instance, the weave on this one is a different...
04:13Like you see this is called creping and this is actually a totally different striation.
04:16So this is a completely different weave than this.
04:18It'll yield a totally different look and feel.
04:20Unless you're doing things by hand, the factories need something to sort of get that authentic look.
04:23And it's so hard to do.
04:25It's fascinating. I got really into it.
04:31Oh, this is embarrassing.
04:33I mean, I own easily.
04:35I mean, I'm sure I own more than 40 pair of jeans.
04:39You want them cut short. You want them cut narrow.
04:41I wore some, they're a boyfriend. I want some slouchy.
04:49I think denim belongs everywhere.
04:51I do not discriminate. I like it to come to parties.
04:54I wore a denim jean jacket to the Met Ball, which I think was my first time.
04:58It definitely was a moment looking Anna Wintour in the eye.
05:01I was like, hi.
05:03And then I wore denim to the reunion for the Real Housewives.
05:06I took a lot of flack for it.
05:07I was really comfortable. I felt like myself.
05:09And I thought that was most important.
05:11It was funny because they were vintage Levi's.
05:13And Sai asked me where I got my jeans and I was like, they're from Levi's.
05:15Have you heard of it?
05:17They're not all wearing vintage jeans, but yeah, I got them here.
05:22These I definitely want to try.
05:23I'll try these. Let's see how it goes.
05:25Yeah. I mean, you have double X red lines. Biggie.
05:28I've got it all.
05:33All right. Number one.
05:34I mean, cute.
05:35I mean, it's funny.
05:36The only thing that is a little weird is that the repair is higher than my knee.
05:39This happens to me a lot.
05:41This is actually in the wrong place because I'm tall.
05:43Okay. Pair number one.
05:51All right. Number two.
05:53Those are great.
05:54I actually really like these.
05:56This is interesting because if you notice the repair on the knee is actually where my knee is,
06:00which means this person was tall too.
06:02But you can see the roping in this.
06:04So you can see like how the actual grain of the fabric is going down this way.
06:08And on this one, it's slightly crooked.
06:10I'm an equal opportunity stylist.
06:12I would style them with jeans or loafers and an old sweatshirt.
06:16Or I would style them with diamonds for an evening out.
06:19Or even just like a sweatshirt and diamonds and heels.
06:21Like that's probably my go-to.
06:27I mean, these are cute too.
06:29I mean, I did pretty well.
06:31They fit great.
06:33The rise on this is like on me, which I personally like,
06:35which also gives you like a closer look in the back.
06:38Like when the rise is a little bit lower in the front,
06:40then you can kind of get a little bit more of a saggy butt.
06:43And at my age, I don't need a saggy butt.
06:45These are cute.
06:47I don't even want to look at the price tag.
06:49They're $1,800.
06:51I mean, listen, I get it.
06:53This is the kind of jean where I would not put these
06:55in the wash with the rest of my clothes.
06:57That was all of them. I think I know what I like.
06:59I'll be back.
07:06This feels like what I don't have, honestly.
07:08Like I feel like I have more stuff in Spain.
07:11And I liked how like snatched the waist was on those.
07:14And that they have no markings on them.
07:16Because I have a lot of jeans that have like stuff on them.
07:19And I like the color.
07:21They're $42.
07:24Thank you so much.
07:26Thank you. Bye-bye.
07:30That's a wrap. Thank you, Harper's Bazaar,
07:32for spending the day with me looking at denim and diamonds.
07:35Bye.
07:51Bye.
