00:00It's really fun when you know that you can help others, especially young people.
00:05Because there's a dance production and workshop
00:08that's for children and neurodivergent individuals
00:12started by a former actress and TV personality, Princess Ryan.
00:16And if there's one, we can include her.
00:18Princess Ryan is the founder and creator of Kids' Groove
00:21and the 2024 Model Mom Universe.
00:25Queen is also an advocate and a chef.
00:28Thank you for joining us today. Good morning, Princess.
00:30Good morning, guys. Thank you so much for having me here.
00:33What a beautiful studio.
00:35Thank you. And very beautiful as well, as always, Princess Ryan.
00:39And she has a beautiful advocacy.
00:41Yes, of course.
00:42Princess, you're a former actress and model
00:45and you stepped away from the limelight and moved to another country.
00:48So, tell us how this advocacy started.
00:52What's the inspiration?
00:54So, part of the inspiration is my love for dancing and working with children.
01:00And since I was in the showbiz industry before,
01:03I was part of Star Magic, Batch 13, ABS-CBN, TV5.
01:08What I learned there and how they empowered me
01:11through the dance workshops, acting, singing,
01:14I basically used that as a blueprint to have my own brand,
01:20which was created when I was in California.
01:23So, I stayed there for 13 years. This is my first year back.
01:28Go ahead.
01:28This is my first year back here in the Philippines
01:32and I'm just really, really happy that I'm able to spread the awareness
01:36and the inclusion for my program.
01:40And, of course, to you guys for spreading the word also.
01:43Thank you so much.
01:43So, you're helping neurodivergent kids.
01:46Yes.
01:47Okay. Why did you choose this advocacy?
01:51What pushed you to help these neurodivergent kids?
01:56So, when this community came to me,
02:00they were actually the ones who found me.
02:02Okay.
02:02So, in the States, somebody called me to choreograph
02:06a flash mob dance production for World Down Syndrome Day.
02:11Okay.
02:11So, that was my first introduction to the neurodivergent community.
02:15And I saw that, wow, these kids are so talented.
02:20That's when I decided to make my brand inclusive.
02:23So, it's open for children with and without special needs
02:27or what we call them is neurodivergent people.
02:30Okay.
02:31So, it started in America.
02:33So, when did it start?
02:34Or did you bring your advocacy here in the Philippines?
02:36And here in the workshop, is there a different style or genre of dance?
02:41And aside from the dance workshop, are you offering anything else?
02:45Really good question.
02:46So, in our workshop, what we do is we move, create, and express.
02:52Those are our three slogans.
02:54So, any genre, but I just want the kids to really move their bodies,
03:00find their groove, but also learn how to follow choreography.
03:03So, those are the two main things that we teach.
03:06And in the States, it was founded in 2018.
03:10And now, we've been here in the Philippines for one year.
03:13We celebrate, we're partnered with two different malls
03:17that they can find out where it is on our social media, in the kids' group.
03:22But we also partner with businesses and, you know,
03:26who want to be part of the neurodivergent community
03:29or they want people to know that,
03:31you know what, we support neurodivergent community also.
03:35My program here is free, by the way.
03:38It's free.
03:39It's free.
03:39It's a free dance workshop program, which is the very first of its kind here in the Philippines.
03:46And how we get funding is through our merchandise.
03:49If people want to support, the kids want to wear the kids' group merch.
03:53And, of course, through partnerships, which we are very proud to say that
03:58The Park Foundation, which is a non-profit organization,
04:02they really focus on harnessing the performing arts, the talents of the youth.
04:09So now, they're very happy that, with partnership with kids' group,
04:13they're also using that platform, their foundation,
04:17to be a platform for neurodivergent people.
04:19Okay.
04:19Do you have scheduled workshops?
04:22Because there might be people who want to join your free classes and workshops.
04:26Where can they see your schedules?
04:28And how frequent do you do this workshop, Princess?
04:31So right now, we do it twice a week because we have two locations now.
04:35So one mall is in SM Tansa in Cavite.
04:39That's every Monday, 3 to 5 p.m.
04:41And the other one is Tansa Mall in Ertiga, in Miralco Ave.
04:46Every Thursday, same time, 3 to 5 p.m.
04:50And I'm personally the one teaching the kids.
04:53And if I'm not available because I'm doing guestings or I'm doing a tour,
04:57bringing kids' group to other places in the Philippines,
05:01I have my advocates also who are there to teach the kids.
05:07Yes.
05:08How is the reception of the people?
05:10How many students?
05:11Can we see the trend?
05:13There are so many.
05:14Yes, our ambassadors here are more than 50 plus.
05:19We call them our ambassadors because they are advocating for themselves, right?
05:24Yeah, they're really increasing.
05:26And the more we get exposure, we get to talk about it like this,
05:30I'm sure more people will want to join.
05:32So please join Kids' Groove.
05:35It's a free dance workshop program here.
05:37And follow Kids' Groove on Instagram and Facebook so you will know more about it.
05:42But we have this really, really big event this coming November 28 in Maybank Theater.
05:48This is in partnership with Park Foundation and Global Tronics.
05:52So this is going to be like a Thanksgiving event, free event.
05:57So everybody is invited.
05:59Please bring your families and friends.
06:01And if you're a neurodivergent individual, reach out to us so you can have a chance to be on stage
06:08and be part of that event this November 28 in Maybank Theater.
06:13How can they reach out to you, Princess Ryan?
06:15What is your social media?
06:16So my personal Instagram is thisisprincessryan.
06:22And then you can see the links there for Kids' Groove and my other brand called Maganda Forever,
06:27which is about women who have advocacy also and promoting anything that they want to advocate.
06:34Okay.
06:35We can feel that you really treasure this advocacy.
06:39Very exciting.
06:39It's very heartwarming because we're talking about kids.
06:42And we're giving them a safe space for them to express themselves.
06:46I wonder, what is your goal with this brand, this Kids' Groove?
06:53Because it's quite a new organization, this brand, right?
06:58You said that you'll only be in the Philippines for one year.
07:01But in the future, what do you see and dream for this?
07:04Well, my dream is to really encourage people to not be afraid to show or to advocate that they're neurodivergent.
07:13So I just wanted to share that I'm also part of that community.
07:17I myself am a neurodivergent person because I am what they call an HSP,
07:22which stands for highly sensitive person.
07:25So that's why my empathy is a little bit more than a person who is not an HSP.
07:31And again, if you are a neurodivergent individual,
07:35which is if you're under that umbrella that you have ADHD, HSP, Down Syndrome, Autism,
07:42even Bipolar and Tourette Syndrome, and even Cerebral Palsy,
07:46you are a neurodivergent individual.
07:48And some of us do not look like it, like physically, hindi siya nakikita.
07:54But being a neurodivergent person, it just means you think differently from everybody else.
08:00You process information in a unique way, which is why a lot of us are in the creative industry,
08:07which is why a lot of us are entrepreneurs because we think outside of the box.
08:12So I want that word neurodivergent or neurodiversity to really be like everybody knows about it,
08:20everybody is aware about it, and everybody is proud to be called a neurodivergent individual.
08:28And hindi na siya taboo or it's not something that we're kind of embarrassed to admit
08:34because it's a strength to be different, to think differently from everybody else.
08:39There's nothing wrong with that.
08:41It's a beautiful story, you know.
08:43Thank you, thank you very much for sharing your story and advocacy.
08:46Kita sa Rise and Shine Pilipinas.
08:48At kaisa po ninyo kami sa inyo pong advocacy nga ito.
08:51Thank you, Princess Ryan. Mabuhay ka.
