00:00Hello and welcome to another episode of Project BMW Jekyll and Hyde on
00:16ThrottleHouse. Today Joe from the Pinnacle Driving Academy slash
00:19ThrottleHouse is coming over and we're gonna do some more bodywork and we are
00:23also going to continue plugging away at M54B30, the 330 motor that's going to go
00:28in Dr. Jekyll, the time attack car. Mr. Hyde, the drift car, is going to get some
00:34more bodywork, as I said, done to it. Maybe we'll even get to some welding today. Not
00:39entirely sure. Either way, this place is a mess. So, oh, someone bought me a new
00:44fire extinguisher. It's very big. People don't have faith in me, clearly.
00:48Alright everybody, Joe is back here. Joe has returned for more bodywork. Once again, no
00:53one knows why Joe likes bodywork, but here is the situation. I will drop the
00:58exposure down a little bit because it's a little bit hot. Okay, so there's two
01:05layers, right? This is where the jack point is. It's completely rusted. You can
01:12see we're gonna mask this off and we're gonna cut kind of a straight line here
01:18like that and then cut up here and across probably something like that so
01:21that we can, when we weld something on later, then it will be easier to do. Then
01:26we're gonna go underneath the rocker and start poking around, see what's going
01:28on there. This is a pretty rough area, so let's get it done. Masking these guys off.
01:35Use that as a guideline to cut off. Cut off wheel. Yeah, just don't ignore all this
01:42part here. That's gonna be nasty.
01:57It's a little bit of surface, but not too bad. I don't think it's really worthwhile
02:02having that much. I think the most important part, clean up here.
02:08Pull that stuff out.
02:10Oh my god.
02:12What is going on in there?
02:14There might be a family of three here.
02:27This is like a Russian doll of rust.
02:37All right, so Joe has been an absolute champion and he has cut away and grinded
02:41away a huge amount of this area. Okay, so this is the situation here. Mr. Hyde is
02:48sick. Rust is a disease. Okay, so we've cut this away down to here. Cut a nice
02:56line here that we can rebuild later. This is the jack point. I don't know if you can
03:00see very well. It's still structurally sound somehow. It seems to be that the
03:10metal hasn't rotted completely at the attachment point in there. So we're just
03:15gonna grind this away carefully and then we're just gonna rust inhibit it and
03:19move on. And we're just gonna weld some plates along the bottom and then just
03:27tack this up and call it a day. By a day I mean like another three or four weeks
03:32of regular work, but that's okay. That's the name of the game. We're learning how
03:36to do bodywork here.
03:41Okay, so I have replaced the water pump. I replaced this tensioner. This is all
03:48just boring stuff I didn't bother showing you. If you want DIYs for these,
03:5150s Kid is your best friend basically. So I replaced the tensioner here. I replaced
03:56the water pump. I have completely deleted the CCV system and we're going to a
04:01catch can, right? So I'm using this rail right here to draw a vacuum through this
04:08PCV valve, which you can see is already kind of gunked up from when I used it in the
04:11last car. I'm gonna put a catch can there and it's gonna pull from the valve cover.
04:16So this guy's car definitely wasn't running well because you can see that
04:22was his intake booting and it's completely cracked and that is a really
04:26classic source of vacuum leaks on these cars. And I am going to do the oil filter
04:34housing gasket. So this whole situation here comes right off.
04:52Oh, it's rock hard anyway. Actually, no, it's not that bad. I've seen worse.
05:00All right, got my new gasket here. Cleaned my mating surfaces. I bought a BMW OEM one of
05:10these right from the dealer. One of those things, it doesn't cost very much to get
05:14OEM and it's really annoying to change, so why not get the whatever one BMW is
05:22using.
05:36All right, torque those down properly. I don't know if you're supposed to,
05:41but I'm gonna go look at the torque spec. I'll do it off-camera. I'm gonna torque
05:44this way, cross pattern, make sure the whole thing sits nicely against that and
05:48this area is done. All right, I am still waiting for my clutch kit. So I can't put
05:54the clutch on or anything. I'm going to do the rear main seal right now though
05:57because that I can do. Now this is easier than some getting the rear main seal out.
06:02It's got its own carrier which is really nice. New rear main seal. Make sure that
06:15when you put it on, this lip doesn't fold in any way when you put it over the
06:20crank. New rear main seal. A little bit of blue thread locker on these.
06:46Okay, and then torque these down to spec. I don't know what that is. I'm gonna look it up
06:50now. You don't need to see that because it's boring. This engine is coming along
06:54nicely. Here's the 325 which I said I was going to sell, but it's not gonna have
06:58very many parts left on it by the time I'm done, so somebody might want it for
07:01the drift of the block. And as you saw, Joe and I were plugging away at the body
07:06work over there, so Mr. Hyde the drift car is coming along very slowly. So
07:14that's all for today. Nothing massive was accomplished today. Sorry about that.
07:18This is kind of just like a middle-of-the-road video before we can
07:22actually start doing the fun stuff like reinstalling the engine or, I don't know,
07:28welding maybe. Getting some body panels on Mr. Hyde. So there's Dr. Jekyll. Still
07:36nowhere near done. There's my new transmission by the way. There's the
07:40transmission with a hole. New transmission. This is a very long process. All of this
07:44is, right? You really have to, when you're doing things like this, you just got to be
07:47patient and plug away at it a little bit at a time until you start to see some
07:52progress, and eventually I'm going to. So thank you for watching Project BMW
07:55Jekyll and Hyde on Throttle House. I'll be back at you with another video real soon.
08:10you
