00:00Guys the worst thing ever has happened. I found rust. Like so much rust. Like rot.
00:07Like a lot of rust. Couldn't see it when I bought the car. It just looked like
00:11corrosion. All the area around my jack point and the rocker panel, it's
00:15completely corroded. Got it in here to see. I've got it in here to see what we

00:23Okay so I just got out of the shop there. I'm gonna bring the car in in about a
00:28week. So essentially what's happened is the area around the jack point, which is
00:34I guess fairly common for these cars, has completely rotted and rusted out. So
00:38essentially the rocker panel like area didn't drain properly from the previous
00:42owner and when I like I was jacking the car up and I heard a creaking sound and
00:46I just reached up and I just my fingers went through the rocker panel. So I
00:51started pulling out dust and crap. Oh dear. That's like the worst thing to find.
00:58It's like your car has cancer. So essentially I'm obviously gonna fix it
01:04right because even if it was a thousands of dollars I would fix it because I love
01:07this car so much and I'm not giving up on the e46 dream. So he's gonna bring it
01:13in next week. He's guessing it's gonna be you know about 500 bucks ish depending
01:19on how much needs to be done to essentially rebuild the entire area,
01:22rebuild the jack point, weld some reinforcement on and do some rust
01:26proofing and stuff for the rest of it. So I'm gonna actually get some video of
01:31that and chronicle it so you can see and I'm gonna try and do my best to show you
01:35what to look for because when I bought this car I looked for this or rust in
01:39this area and I didn't see any. I saw some corrosion which you would expect
01:43from like a 13 year old car but I didn't see anything that was like oh the entire
01:47car is rotten. Okay so if you look up in the chassis a little bit it's actually
01:52quite fine. It looks brand new up there. The rust goes up about three or four
01:56inches. He's gonna cut everything out and rebuild it with custom panels. So I'm
02:01gonna show you guys what that looks like a little bit later. Hopefully everything
02:06works out and this is just one of those things that you deal with when you have
02:09an old BMW. Why do they rust so easily?
