00:00In the middle of the storm, the Department of Agriculture assured that the rice supply in the country is sufficient.
00:07Meanwhile, the National Food Authority is ready to supply rice to the residents of Baguiong Cristin.
00:15This is Clayzel Pardilla of PTV for Balitang Pambansa.
00:20The storm did not leave Baguiong Cristin free in San Jose, Camarines Sur.
00:26It flooded and filled with sand in Libon Albay.
00:31That's just a few of the crops cut by the storm.
00:35According to the Department of Agriculture,
00:38the possible route of the storm will cover an area of 1 million hectares of rice
00:44in the regions of Ilocos, Cagayan, Central, Mimaropa, Calabarzon, Bicol, Carraga, and Eastern Visayas.
00:54But the agency believes that the damage of the storm will not be huge.
00:5860-70% of the so-called matured crops in the areas were saved after the DA's early warning.
01:08The Secretary advised our regional field offices and regional directors to carry out the harvesting.
01:17But of course, we can't harvest all of them.
01:20Because there are areas that were planted early after the early harvest.
01:25They caught up with the second or third crop.
01:28So, that's about 15%.
01:31Of course, if it's damaged, it's hard for them to recover.
01:33But if we're advised, at least we saved a lot.
01:38The damage won't be that big.
01:42The agency believes that the rice supply is sufficient.
01:46Because of the importation, we expect that based on the historical trend,
01:53our stock inventory can still reach 100 days after the end of the year.
01:59So, we're not worried when it comes to our stocks.
02:03Free rice, fat, and other farm inputs have already been placed
02:07to be distributed to farmers affected by the storm.
02:11The National Food Authority will continue to export rice
02:15to meet the needs in the areas that were hit by the Christine earthquake.
02:19500 sacks of rice were deployed for relief operations in Sorsobon and Katanduanets.
02:25As of now, the NFA's inventory is more than 4 million sacks of rice.
02:31We are expecting more requests from the LGUs in Naga.
02:35You know, we have a lot of rice there.
02:38We're really confident that we will be able to provide stocks to our LGUs in Naga.
02:44The agency has already ordered the opening of all warehouses in the country
02:48so that rice can be deployed quickly.
02:51From PTV Manila, Kalei Zalparilla for Balitang Pambansa.
