The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has confirmed allegations that certain authorities are providing protection to prostitution centres particularly in Kuala Lumpur and other major cities.

MACC Chief Commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki stated on Thursday (Oct 17) that this conclusion was reached after a series of operations conducted by the agency over the past 11 years.

Azam called for more information to proceed with further action and urged anyone with detailed knowledge to come forward and assist in the investigation.

00:00Can you update the SPRM on the corruption behind the spreading of the virus?
00:12Yes, before this, I can say that since 2013,
00:23there have been a lot of operations by the SPRM related to the issue of corruption in our country,
00:31especially in the big cities.
00:34And our findings in all cases are that there is protection from the authorities or the law enforcement.
00:43So, I can say that there is protection from the law enforcement.
00:54If not, how can it spread? That's the report.
00:58So, if this can be made clear to us, we need more information,
01:03where and so on, for us to make an assessment.
01:06So, if anyone is willing to come and give us more information,
01:12the SPRM will arrange our actions for further investigation.
