00:00That is a bit tasty.
00:02Hey guys, I'm Tom from Tech Chap, and this is the new Honor 200 Pro, and I really like
00:07this phone.
00:08Not just for the specs and the design and the camera and all that good stuff that I'll
00:10walk you through, but also the price, which has just been confirmed to me, like literally
00:16five minutes before I started shooting this video, which was very helpful.
00:18So thank you to Honor for sending this out for me to have a little play with and also
00:21partnering with me on this video.
00:23So this is not a review, but I just want to give you a bit of a walkthrough and tell you
00:26what you're going to get with the 200 Pro.
00:28Which includes being one of the very first phones to use this new Snapdragon 8S Gen 3
00:33chip.
00:34We also get great battery life, fast charging, wireless charging, a lovely triple camera
00:38setup which takes some of the nicest portrait shots I've seen from a phone, thanks to their
00:42partnership with the Harcourt Photography Studio, and an all new AI portrait engine,
00:47although more on that in a second.
00:48A super bright and very fast screen, and it's all wrapped in this very pretty design.
00:54We've got this kind of almost river-y flowing aesthetic to it, we've got a sort of dual
00:58texture contrasting tone there, this oval camera module.
01:03It's quite eye-catching.
01:04It comes in three different colours, a moonlight white, a black, and this very tasty ocean
01:08cyan.
01:09And Honor tell me they've gone for a more natural and more organic design.
01:13Which I can definitely see here.
01:14I just wish the UK government didn't force companies to put this stuff on the phone.
01:20It would seem like a wheelie bin with an X through it to complete the design.
01:24But that's not Honor's fault, that comes on everything.
01:26Anyway, we're getting IP65, water and dust resistant, so it'll survive a quick dunk.
01:31It's 8.2mm thick and weighs 199g, and with these rounded corners and the very curvy screen,
01:38or as Honor calls it, the quad-curved floating display, it really does look good and feels
01:43comfortable to hold, if a bit slippery.
01:45Although I do know not everyone is a fan of a curved screen.
01:48What do you think?
01:50Either way though, despite the slim profile, this does support wireless charging, which
01:54is never guaranteed.
01:55No headphone jack or microSD card slot here, but we do have stereo speakers.
01:59Although I have noticed the bottom-firing speaker is a fair bit louder than the top.
02:05And if you're wondering what this second little lens up here is for, and why we have this
02:09more of a pill-shaped cutout, that is for the IR sensors.
02:13Which gives you much faster and more reliable low-light face unlocking.
02:16Now for me, there's a few ways Honor phones stand out.
02:19This is the flagship Magic 6 Pro, which I made a video on a few weeks ago, an absolutely
02:23terrific phone.
02:24This is the 200 Pro of course, and one of the standouts of Honor phones is always the
02:28display, and the 200 Pro is no different.
02:30Usual stuff to start with, 6.78 inches, 120Hz, AMOLED, very nice, but this also can peak
02:36at 4000 nits of brightness.
02:38Now that is on a 1% window, they call it a 1% APL, so it's not full screen, 4000 nits,
02:44but it does mean small highlights can really pop on the screen, especially if you're watching
02:48HDR movies and videos, or scrolling through your photo gallery.
02:51And it wouldn't be an Honor phone without a whole bunch of eye protection features built
02:55in.
02:56So we've got this Oasis eye protection area under the eye care, which includes the circadian
03:03night display, so that's basically going to adjust the screen colour temperature based
03:07on the ambient light around you.
03:08We've also got dynamic dimming, and you'll see down here, 3840Hz of PWM dimming, that's
03:15pulse width modulation.
03:17And there is this little guide down here that kind of shows you, but I think we can do better
03:20than that, although I will need to change the shutter speed of my camera.
03:24And you can see these tiny black bars scrolling down very quickly.
03:27That's basically the screen's pixels turning on and off very fast at a specific frequency
03:31to essentially change the brightness, or the perceived brightness.
03:35And the higher the frequency, the less eye strain you get, particularly at lower brightnesses.
03:39And for context, here's the iPhone 15 Pro Max, and while this strobing, this pulsing
03:44isn't visible to the naked eye, and I have had to whack up my camera's shutter speed,
03:48it does go to show the difference.
03:49And I also appreciate we have this e-book mode, which essentially puts it into monochrome,
03:54and that combined with a warmer tone that you'd get if I dropped the lights in here,
03:57it's a very comfortable screen to use.
03:59Alright, let me open the specs page, and you can see we've got 12GB of RAM, 512 storage,
04:04and that is the only SKU that's going to be coming here in the UK, and we have this
04:08Snapdragon 8S Gen 3.
04:10Now this is a new chip, this is one of the first phones to use it, and what makes it
04:13really interesting is it's basically a less powerful version of the full-fat 8th Gen 3
04:18flagship chip.
04:19And in Geekbench 6, and also 3DMark, you can see the 8S is noticeably less powerful.
04:25However, not only does it make the phone a whole lot cheaper, because it costs on a lesser
04:29to buy the chip from Qualcomm, but it also uses less power, it runs cooler, and you can
04:33get some pretty good sustained performance, there's less throttling here.
04:37And together with the Vapor Chamber cooler we have in the Honor 200 Pro, every game I
04:41threw at this, maxed out settings, it performed flawlessly.
04:44And you can also swipe in from the top left here to bring up the game menu, and either
04:48switch between balanced or game mode, and the truth is, obviously it's nice to have
04:52the best of the best chip, but sometimes that's not always the best value for money, and most
04:56of us just don't utilise all the performance you get from that flagship 8th Gen 3.
05:00I think it's actually been a pretty smart choice.
05:02We've also squeezed in a very healthy 5200mAh battery in here, which together with the less
05:07power hungry chip, means we're getting some really good battery life.
05:10And it supports up to their 100W Honor Supercharger, which will get you from dead to 100% in just
05:1641 minutes, and we also get wireless charging, which you can use on any wireless pad, although
05:20for the full 66W you'll need to use one of their chargers.
05:24And you can top up other devices via the reverse charging.
05:27Very nice.
05:29Okay, let's talk about this camera.
05:30And a couple of things right off the bat, I am walking pretty briskly on some cobbled
05:34streets, I've got wind blowing at me, sun hitting my face, tell me how you think this
05:41looks in terms of video quality, microphone, stabilisation.
05:45So I was just looking at some new trees to plant in my garden.
05:49Beautiful place, and then I just looked down, and there's this little guy, hello, what's
05:54your name?
05:56What do you think of the Honor 200 Pro?
06:00So Honor are calling the 200 Pro the Portrait Master, and I can kind of see why.
06:05From a hardware perspective, we have three lenses.
06:08We have a 50MP main or wide lens, a 12MP ultrawide, which also doubles as a macro, a 50MP telephoto
06:15with a 2.5x optical zoom, and a whopping 50MP portrait selfie camera.
06:21So high end, if not quite flagship camera hardware, but for the price, very good.
06:26But that's only half the story, as Honor have developed their own AI Portrait Engine.
06:30Now this has been co-created and inspired by Studio Harcourt, which is a very famous
06:35Paris-based photography studio, and they worked together to create this AI Portrait Engine
06:40with the aim, they tell me, of unlocking studio-level photography.
06:43Although of course lighting, composition, and your own skills are still pretty important,
06:48But the AI Portrait Engine has been trained on over a thousand scenarios and millions
06:52of datasets to optimise the light and the shadows, the bokeh, it can highlight details
06:56and faces, even pick out individual hair strands.
06:59And specifically in portrait mode, if you tap on this Harcourt logo, you have three
07:03of their custom colour profiles, so you can get some really nice, characterful shots.
07:11So definitely a big focus on the portrait photography, but across the board, I've actually
07:14been pretty impressed by this camera, particularly the dynamic range, the ability for this to
07:19capture in tricky light, whether you have really bright highlights and deep shadows
07:22or a high-contrast scene, the 1 over 3 inch sensor, the f1.9 aperture, and all that processing
07:28and AI behind the scenes, it all adds up to be a really nice camera system.
07:32And of course it wouldn't be an Honor phone without their AI motion sensing capture, which
07:36once again has resulted in me jumping around like a complete b****, and while it doesn't
07:40always capture the shot I'd intended, the low shutter lag and automatic capture when
07:45it detects motion means you get some impressively sharp and in-focus action shots.
07:50And then when you've taken all your photos, the 200 Pro also packs in some handy AI features,
07:55including instant movie, so you can pick up to 30 photos and videos to create a quick
08:00montage and it will use AI to intelligently see what is the most interesting moment of
08:04a clip.
08:05We also have memories, which you'll find here in the gallery, and it turns the phone into
08:09a nice little digital photo frame.
08:11And outside of the camera department, we have Honor's magic portal.
08:14This is where you can drag text or images to the edge of your screen and then chuck
08:18it into a related app, like taking an address and putting it into Google Maps, which can
08:22save you a bit of time, although you do have to choose the apps yourself and you can only
08:26have five.
08:28So how much?
08:29Well, I can confirm in the UK, the Honor 200 Pro will set you back £699.99, so £700 basically,
08:38and there are some actually quite good launch deals, including a free Harman Kardon speaker.
08:42Although if this does stretch your budget just a little bit too much, then they are
08:44also launching a regular Honor 200, which coincidentally is £200 less than this, £499.99,
08:51so £500.
08:52So that's definitely worth considering, and I will leave links to both in the description
08:55below if you want to check those out.
08:57If you've got any questions at all about the 200 Pro, then drop a comment below.
09:00Let me know what you think of this.
09:01Thank you so much for watching, guys.
09:02If you enjoyed this video, then a cheeky little like and subscribe would be lovely, and I'll
09:06see you next time right here on the Tech Chap.
