00:00:00Are you serious? Oh my gosh, I can't believe you're here!
00:00:05Tobias! Why didn't you let me help?
00:00:08Well, because that's not how surprise parties work.
00:00:10Yeah, actually, I'm starving. Oh, this looks so good! Woo!
00:00:14Oh, doesn't it?
00:00:15Jesus!
00:00:16Look, you don't start Carnegie Mellon for another six weeks. Why do you have to go now, huh?
00:00:19Oh, well, the university set me up with a condo.
00:00:21Wait, you bought something sight unseen?
00:00:23Well, it was one of those 3D tour thingies online,
00:00:26but the university swears it's a really good neighborhood, really good building,
00:00:30so I'm so excited to get myself all set up and meet my neighbors.
00:00:34Oh, you'd be a regular Mr. Rogers.
00:00:36And honestly, I've lived in Miami my entire life.
00:00:38I can't wait to experience a real fall.
00:00:42Like, I just read about something called leaf peeping.
00:00:45Well, why can't you peep leaves here?
00:00:47Well, it would be more like peeping palm fronds. Not quite the same thing.
00:00:51Okay, I concede. All right, speech time.
00:00:54Hold my plate.
00:00:55Don't.
00:00:57I wouldn't be me if I didn't say a couple of words right now. I promise I'll keep it short.
00:01:00All right.
00:01:02Um, I was raised to believe that the phrase,
00:01:06love thy neighbor, is more than just something crocheted on a pillow.
00:01:10It's a responsibility.
00:01:11And it is scary for me to be leaving all of you and going to a new place where I don't know anybody.
00:01:18And that's partly because of you.
00:01:20Because you're more than neighbors.
00:01:23You're more than friends.
00:01:26You're family.
00:01:28And I'm going to miss you all so much.
00:01:30No crying. We're not going to cry.
00:01:33And now also, I have to get a selfie, okay?
00:01:36Let's just, okay, ready?
00:01:37Group selfie.
00:01:38On three.
00:01:39All right, one, two, three, Miami!
00:01:50Hi.
00:02:16Oh, hi there. I'm Natalie Calder. I'm moving in today. Are you the super?
00:02:19I'm supposed to get the keys.
00:02:20Calder. Right. Uh, 504.
00:02:23Door's open. Keys are on the counter. Welcome to the Steel Tower Lodge.
00:02:26Oh, thank you.
00:02:28You know what? Actually, the movers are going to be here any minute.
00:02:30So is there anything I need to tell them?
00:02:32Uh, left with your knees?
00:02:34Sorry, I got two sprinklers in the back trying to flood a ground-level balcony,
00:02:38and I got to shut this valve off.
00:02:39Oh. Do you need help?
00:02:41Ah!
00:02:42You okay?
00:02:43Never better. Yep. Good.
00:02:44But wait, should the movers use a freight elevator, or...
00:02:49Okay.
00:02:50Uh, freight elevator.
00:02:52Yeah.
00:02:53Uh, no. No, no. Just a regular elevator is just fine.
00:02:57Oh, sure. Yeah, of course. So excited to meet everybody. What's your name?
00:03:01Uh, Mark.
00:03:03Mark.
00:03:04Yeah.
00:03:05The building is so beautiful, and I love all these fall trees.
00:03:09Uh, we love autumn here.
00:03:11Me too.
00:03:12Okay.
00:03:19Okay.
00:03:20Hi there. I'm Natalie. I'm your new neighbor.
00:03:23Oh, hello, dear. Well, it's nice to meet you.
00:03:26I'm Sylvia. This is Lola.
00:03:28Well, hello, Lola.
00:03:30She's beautiful.
00:03:32She's my baby.
00:03:34Oh, and she's got very sensitive ears, so no loud music.
00:03:37Oh, and no cooking with garlic, because she can smell it from across the hall.
00:03:41Powerful sniffer.
00:03:42You bet.
00:03:44Oh, and there's no clutter in the hallway.
00:03:46No exterior decorations.
00:03:48And your doormat needs to be approved from the Homeowners Association.
00:03:52Otherwise, you're going to get a red HOA violation warning.
00:03:55Those HOA boards can be so strict, but I bet you anything we can get them to loosen up.
00:03:59I'm the HOA president.
00:04:02Welcome to the building.
00:04:04Come on, Lola, darling. Let's go outside.
00:04:16Let's go.
00:04:47Um...
00:04:55Yep, I'm done.
00:04:58It's Natalie Calder? Yes!
00:05:00Well, no, funnily enough, I was actually wondering how you'd feel about me coming in today.
00:05:05You know, meet the team, check out the workspace.
00:05:08Oh, yes.
00:05:10No, of course. That totally makes sense.
00:05:13No, of course. That totally makes sense.
00:05:15Okay, so, um, then I'll just, I'll see you in six weeks, as planned.
00:05:21Great. Also, I just, I wanted to say thank you so much for this opportunity.
00:05:25Hello? Hello?
00:05:29Bye.
00:05:32Oh, hello there. I'm Natalie. I just moved into the building.
00:05:36Hi, Liz.
00:05:38Hector! What is that?
00:05:41It's for my new painting.
00:05:42Oh, so we're just painting in the lobby now?
00:05:43No. The lighting's all wrong.
00:05:46Why is it blocking my mailbox?
00:05:48I had too much to carry. I was coming back to move it.
00:05:51You know what? I'm happy to help you. I'm Natalie. I just moved into the building. Hi.
00:05:54Oh!
00:05:56Why aren't these packages in order?
00:05:59Oh, I can help you organize it. I'm Natalie.
00:06:03Great!
00:06:05See what you did?
00:06:07Hector.
00:06:17She has no appreciation for art.
00:06:20I'm out.
00:06:40Excuse me, ma'am.
00:06:41Oh, CMU! I work there. Or, I'm going to. Next semester.
00:06:46Really? Doing what?
00:06:47Uh, admissions.
00:06:48That's not an easy job. I always felt like I snuck in the side door.
00:06:52So, we're looking for volunteers for Pittsburgh's annual Walk to End Alzheimer's.
00:06:56You know, I just moved to town, and my job starts soon.
00:06:59The walk is in three weeks. It's a pretty great way to make friends, too.
00:07:03You know what? How do I say no to a fellow Tartan? Where do I sign up?
00:07:06Let me get Linda. She's the volunteer coordinator.
00:07:09Linda?
00:07:10Hi!
00:07:11I'm Linda.
00:07:12Hi! I'm Natalie. Nice to meet you.
00:07:14Natalie wants to sign up to help with the walk.
00:07:16Fantastic! Now, there are forms, sorry.
00:07:19But after that, it's nothing but hard work that's going to help a lot of people.
00:07:22I like the sound of that.
00:07:24By the way, I love your hat.
00:07:26Oh, thank you. Yeah, it felt autumn-y.
00:07:29Autumn-y?
00:07:30Autumn-y.
00:07:31I love it! I'm stealing that. The phrase, not the hat.
00:07:37But you know what? It is perfect for the season. Just look at this beautiful fall day.
00:07:41I was thinking that, too. It's gorgeous.
00:07:44No, no. No phones. Camera can't capture this.
00:07:55Excuse me, sir. We're looking for volunteers for Pittsburgh's annual Walk to End Alzheimer's, so I was wondering if you...
00:08:00Uh, no. Sorry, but thank you.
00:08:03Okay.
00:08:05I'll be right back. You know what? Just give me one second.
00:08:08Excuse me! Hey! Natalie, from the building.
00:08:12Hi. Right, yeah. Hi.
00:08:14Hi. Yeah, that volunteer. She was just telling you about a really important cause, but you didn't listen to the rest of her pitch.
00:08:20Oh. Um, yeah. Well, it's not my fight.
00:08:25What does that mean?
00:08:26I, uh... I... I gotta go.
00:08:31You have to go?
00:08:36I'm not afraid.
00:08:38Sorry about that. Okay, where do I sign?
00:08:42Right here.
00:08:43Thank you! Great.
00:08:44See anything you like?
00:08:46No, I'm good.
00:08:49You're welcome.
00:08:50I'll see you later.
00:08:51Bye.
00:08:52Bye.
00:08:53Bye.
00:08:54Bye.
00:08:55Bye.
00:08:56Bye.
00:08:57Bye.
00:08:58Bye.
00:08:59Bye.
00:09:00Bye.
00:09:01Bye.
00:09:02Bye.
00:09:03Bye.
00:09:04Bye.
00:09:05Bye.
00:09:06Bye.
00:09:07Bye.
00:09:08Bye.
00:09:09Bye.
00:09:10Bye.
00:09:11Bye.
00:09:12Bye.
00:09:13See anything you like?
00:09:14Uh, yes please. I will take one of everything.
00:09:16You joke, but I've seen people try.
00:09:18This place is fabulous. It's like a fall wonderland.
00:09:22Your apron should say Queen of Fall Things.
00:09:26I like you.
00:09:27Just for that, first piece is on me.
00:09:30Well, now I like you.
00:09:33So much better.
00:09:36Tis the season.
00:09:37We have the classics.
00:09:38Pumpkin, pecan, apple.
00:09:40We also have walnut cranberry.
00:09:42And because I'm fancy, we have pumpkin spice latte.
00:09:45Which I serve on tea.
00:09:47Uh, okay.
00:09:49So it's fall, so I think I'll just go classic apple today.
00:09:52Right.
00:09:53Whipped cream?
00:09:54Absolutely.
00:09:55Hey, Trey.
00:09:56This is my BLT.
00:09:57As usual, enjoy.
00:09:59Hello?
00:10:00We meet again.
00:10:01Excuse me.
00:10:02We meet again.
00:10:03Excuse me.
00:10:04Could I get some extra napkins?
00:10:06Of course. Be there in a sec.
00:10:17You're welcome.
00:10:23Enjoy.
00:10:24The perfect piece of apple pie.
00:10:27Looks good.
00:10:28Enjoy.
00:10:29Uh, coffee?
00:10:30Okay.
00:10:33Hey, that guy Mark, do you know him?
00:10:35Yeah, he's a doll.
00:10:37I mean, you know, a doll wrapped in barbed wire protected by guard dogs.
00:10:41But there's a real sweetie in there.
00:10:44He's the super in my building.
00:10:46And if I'm honest, everybody in there is a little bit prickly.
00:10:49Maybe you just haven't gotten to know them yet.
00:10:52I mean, I haven't.
00:10:53And they haven't gotten to know me.
00:10:55You know, I should have everybody over.
00:10:57For, like, chili or something.
00:10:59People love my chili.
00:11:01I'll have a chili party.
00:11:02Perfect.
00:11:03I'm going to need some pies.
00:11:04Boom.
00:11:05Let me ask my boss if I can get you a discount.
00:11:07Oh, thanks.
00:11:08Hey, boss, can we give this nice lady a discount?
00:11:11Boy, that sounds like a capital idea.
00:11:14Thanks, boss.
00:11:16That was 20% off sound.
00:11:18You're so weird.
00:11:19I'm obsessed.
00:11:21Can you ask your boss if there's a print shop around here?
00:11:25Hey, boss.
00:11:27Ha, ha, ha.
00:11:46Italy.
00:11:58Italy.
00:12:05Hi.
00:12:06You live here?
00:12:08And hello to you.
00:12:10I do.
00:12:11107 right off the lobby.
00:12:12Makes the commute shorter when I have to investigate a leak in 404 at 930 at night.
00:12:17And you just thought you'd stop by on your way for a free meal?
00:12:22Leak?
00:12:23404?
00:12:24Right beneath you?
00:12:25I've got to look under your sink.
00:12:26Right.
00:12:27Yes.
00:12:31You having a party?
00:12:33Apparently not.
00:12:35Wow, you're all set up already.
00:12:36You even got your books out.
00:12:37Yeah, I love to read.
00:12:38I just don't have time.
00:12:40I thought this would be so fun.
00:12:41Throw a big chili party for all my neighbors.
00:12:43Long story short, no one came.
00:12:45Yeah, well, that tracks.
00:12:48What does that mean?
00:12:49Why would no one come to my party?
00:12:50Oh, there it is.
00:12:51Hey, you got a towel I can borrow?
00:12:53Here.
00:12:54Catch.
00:12:55Let me get this straight.
00:12:56You're the super in this building, right?
00:12:58You know about everything that goes on.
00:13:00What am I missing?
00:13:01All right, look.
00:13:02I just work here.
00:13:03I stay out of people's business.
00:13:04They stay out of mine.
00:13:06But they're your neighbors.
00:13:07Well, they're also my employers.
00:13:09But they're sometimes your neighbors.
00:13:11But they're always my employers.
00:13:13Only from 9 to 5.
00:13:14932.
00:13:16All right, answer one question.
00:13:18Why does no one in this building seem to get along?
00:13:20And how long has it been going on for?
00:13:22Has it always been this way or is it a new thing?
00:13:24And why would that be?
00:13:25Did something happen?
00:13:26Okay, fine.
00:13:27One long question with multiple parts.
00:13:32Like I said.
00:13:33I stay out of people's business.
00:13:35They stay out of mine.
00:13:36I don't like to get involved.
00:13:38Look, there's 30 units in the building.
00:13:40Half the people keep to themselves.
00:13:42The other half actively do not like each other.
00:13:44That is so sad.
00:13:46What would you say if I told you that in my last building
00:13:48it was one big family?
00:13:50I'd say you gotta screw loose.
00:13:51Excuse me?
00:13:52Out of the sink.
00:13:53You gotta screw loose.
00:13:56Okay, that should do it.
00:14:00All right, well, I'm all done here.
00:14:02I will leave you to your time.
00:14:07Thanks.
00:14:08You know what?
00:14:09Wait.
00:14:10Here, take this.
00:14:11Oh, no, no, no.
00:14:12No, it's really good chili and the fridge is only so big.
00:14:14Just take it.
00:14:15Take it.
00:14:16It's delicious.
00:14:19You're welcome.
00:14:20How do you do?
00:14:21Hey, this is a hazard.
00:14:23Oh, well, now it's a choking hazard.
00:14:25Just be a neighborly.
00:14:26Would you mind being neighborly and grabbing the door for me?
00:14:28Oh.
00:14:30Here.
00:14:31Um, go ahead.
00:14:32Yeah.
00:14:33Yeah.
00:14:34Go, go, go.
00:14:35You got it.
00:14:36You got it.
00:14:37Yeah.
00:14:38I'll get this back to you in three to four weeks.
00:14:52Hi.
00:14:53Nice day for a bike ride.
00:14:55Mm-hmm.
00:14:56Where are you off to?
00:14:58I'm going to go out exploring.
00:15:00I'm also going to grab some souvenirs for some of my friends back home.
00:15:03My friend Tobias, he wants a book from the Andy Warhol Museum.
00:15:06My friend Janice, she wants a Pittsburgh-themed cat toy.
00:15:09No idea where I'm going to find that.
00:15:10Oh, and how about this?
00:15:11This is a cat toy.
00:15:12This is a cat toy.
00:15:13I'm going to go out exploring.
00:15:14I'm going to go out exploring.
00:15:16I'm going to go out exploring.
00:15:17I'm going to go out exploring.
00:15:18I'm going to go out exploring.
00:15:19I'm going to go out exploring.
00:15:20I'm going to go out exploring.
00:15:21I'm going to go out exploring.
00:15:22Oh, and how's this for a coincidence?
00:15:23Beth wants a T-shirt from the Bicycle Museum.
00:15:25Did you know Pittsburgh had a bicycle museum?
00:15:27I did.
00:15:28Because you rode your bike there?
00:15:30Nope.
00:15:31I ride my bike because it's a way for me to get a little me time.
00:15:34But you don't get involved, right?
00:15:36So isn't it all me time?
00:15:40It's better than a full day of everyone else's time.
00:15:42What?
00:15:43You didn't like doing that stuff?
00:15:44Well, you don't do things for other people for yourself.
00:15:46You do things for other people for them.
00:15:49Like this.
00:15:51You should try it sometime.
00:15:53I'm on call 24 hours a day.
00:15:55For other people, I do this because this is something that is just for me.
00:16:00Maybe you should try it sometime.
00:16:14Tobias!
00:16:16Hey Natalie, a bunch of us were about to decorate the lobby.
00:16:19Oh, that is so great. I wish I were there to help.
00:16:23Don't you have a lobby to decorate in Pittsburgh?
00:16:25Yeah, well, a little bit complicated.
00:16:28The people in the building, they're not the friendliest bunch.
00:16:31What? What is so funny?
00:16:33Don't you remember what it was like when you first moved in here?
00:16:35Nobody really knew each other.
00:16:37Sure, we're neighbors, but we just nodded to each other politely in the hallways.
00:16:40You're the one that pulled us together.
00:16:42You turned us into more than just neighbors.
00:16:45Thanks, buddy.
00:16:47The shanty has to be stopped. Why can't you just, I don't know, put up a laundry sign?
00:16:52Mira, all signs have to be approved by the HOA.
00:16:54Wait, they do? They must have taken down my chili party flyer. That's why no one came.
00:16:58I'm sure that's the reason.
00:17:00Wait, who are you?
00:17:01Oh, hi, I'm Natalie. I just moved into 504.
00:17:03Oh. Fifth floor.
00:17:08What's wrong with the fifth floor? I just moved into the fifth floor.
00:17:11Don't ask.
00:17:12Wait, wait, wait, wait, wait!
00:17:14Building politics. Trust me, you are better off not getting involved.
00:17:18Not getting involved? It's too late for that because I live on the fifth floor, so what is it?
00:17:21Is it haunted?
00:17:23Honestly, yeah.
00:17:25What?
00:17:26No, it's not haunted. I wish it was that simple.
00:17:28Why won't you tell me what's going on in this building?
00:17:30Why do you care so much?
00:17:31Well, one, because I'm a decent human being.
00:17:33Offended.
00:17:34And two, because I want to live in a place where people genuinely like each other and help each other.
00:17:40No. No, I want to do my job and I want to mind my own business.
00:17:44All right. Okay. I'm just going to have to take matters into my own hands then.
00:17:48I'm going to bring the people in this building together.
00:17:50Okay, that sounds great.
00:17:51And then when I succeed, I'm going to have the satisfaction of knowing that you, sir, were wrong.
00:17:56Don't you have a job?
00:17:58Oh, yeah. I got a job.
00:18:00But it doesn't start for six long weeks.
00:18:04Get used to her.
00:18:11Wow.
00:18:19So not a single person came?
00:18:21Not one. I'm choosing to believe that it's because somebody took down the flyer.
00:18:25I bet it was Mark.
00:18:27He's such a good egg.
00:18:28You know, I saw him refuse to even listen to a college student doing volunteer work.
00:18:32He's a hard-boiled egg.
00:18:34Am I tasting bacon?
00:18:36Butternut squash and bacon.
00:18:38Butternut squash and bacon.
00:18:40Every fall, people lose their minds.
00:18:43It tastes like something my grandmother would have made.
00:18:45Nostalgia keeps me in business.
00:18:47The stomach and the heart, there's a direct pipeline between them.
00:18:51You know what? I think I got to try again.
00:18:55More chili?
00:18:56Nope.
00:18:57I got to bring out the big guns.
00:19:00Baked goods.
00:19:02Worked for me.
00:19:05Hello there. Do you live in this building?
00:19:07No, we don't.
00:19:08No.
00:19:10How's it going over there?
00:19:11So good.
00:19:15Hello there.
00:19:16It's a gorgeous fall morning. The perfect weather for a yummy muffin.
00:19:20I'm sorry. I don't have any cash.
00:19:22Oh, no, no. They're free. It's my way of saying, howdy, neighbor.
00:19:25So we've got apple walnuts, cranberry bran, and lemon poppy seed.
00:19:29Well, how much for all three?
00:19:31No, no, no. It's free.
00:19:32Hi, I'm coming.
00:19:34Not a word.
00:19:35I just work here.
00:19:36I just work here.
00:19:38Oh, hello there. Can I offer you a muffin?
00:19:42Oh!
00:19:45Bless you.
00:19:52Hello, gentlemen. Who'd you care for a muffin?
00:20:04Are you laughing at me?
00:20:05Nope. No, I'm just thinking about a joke somebody told me earlier.
00:20:08Oh. Is it a joke about a lady giving out muffins no one wants?
00:20:11No. But that's funny.
00:20:13Who are they?
00:20:14Zeke, Preston. Roommates.
00:20:16They're roommates who hate each other?
00:20:18Yeah.
00:20:19Why?
00:20:20None of my business.
00:20:31Got any takers?
00:20:33I figured out the problem.
00:20:35The fulcrum needs to be closer to the end to get the right leverage.
00:20:38No, no, no. It's this lobby. And the entrance here.
00:20:42I mean, right now it's just being used as a space for people to get from one place to the next.
00:20:46It needs to be a place people can gather, chat, share recipes.
00:20:49Yes! And play muffin games and have muffin fights and tell stories about the times of muff...
00:20:54It needs to be decorated. And it's fall, right?
00:20:58Right. So, reds and oranges. Corn husks and gourds. Bing bang boom.
00:21:05Alright. Come with me. Come with me.
00:21:09You can leave the muffins. No one's interested in taking those. Come on.
00:21:16Wait. Are those decorations? Are those fall decorations?
00:21:20And Christmas? Hold on, I gotta get in there.
00:21:22It's a whole shebang.
00:21:23Are you kidding?
00:21:25When I was a kid, we used to decorate the lobby all the time.
00:21:27When you were a kid? You grew up here?
00:21:29My dad was a super.
00:21:30Aww, family business. Passed down from generation to generation.
00:21:35That's right. Just like the Carnegies.
00:21:37Well, why don't we use these?
00:21:39You're kind of obsessed.
00:21:40It's not complicated. I like to lend a hand when I can.
00:21:44I still have a lot of hands.
00:21:45Just two.
00:21:46Mark! There you are. You coming to the meeting tonight?
00:21:49Oh, that's tonight?
00:21:51Please be there. We're discussing those planters.
00:21:54Oh, I know. I know. I can't wait.
00:21:56I can't wait to meet you.
00:21:57Hi, Hector.
00:21:58Hi.
00:21:59Hi.
00:22:00What was that about? What's the meeting?
00:22:02Oh, it's just a homeowner association's monthly meeting.
00:22:06What a perfect way for me to meet everybody.
00:22:09No. No. Don't even think about it.
00:22:11I'm gonna make snacks.
00:22:12Literally do anything else.
00:22:14None of you are listening.
00:22:16You need to get on the HOA board. Honestly.
00:22:20No, you don't want to even let me talk.
00:22:22Sit on the board, do a thing, and get it.
00:22:25We are doing it by the rules of the...
00:22:28Order!
00:22:30Mira, the floor is yours.
00:22:32So the exterminators are coming this Saturday?
00:22:34Yes, for their annual visit.
00:22:36We need to vacate 2 till 5.
00:22:38That's very inconvenient.
00:22:40What are we supposed to do from that time?
00:22:42I can't do that.
00:22:44Hector!
00:22:46The agenda says we're supposed to address painting the planter boxes.
00:22:50I vote blue.
00:22:51We are not painting the planter boxes.
00:22:53Wood should look like wood.
00:22:55What about red?
00:22:56Bread?
00:22:57Of course Shanti wants red.
00:22:58What about bread?
00:22:59Red is very in right now.
00:23:00Then I vote we stay out.
00:23:01So no bread.
00:23:02I have an idea.
00:23:03What about a compromise?
00:23:05You know, we could make the planter boxes neutral,
00:23:07and then we could plant flowers that are gonna bloom red or blue,
00:23:10or something seasonal, and then we could decorate the lobby.
00:23:12Who are you?
00:23:13Oh, hi, I'm Natalie.
00:23:15We've actually met a couple of times.
00:23:17Fifth floor.
00:23:19Oh.
00:23:21I brought treats.
00:23:23Wait, isn't she the one who left her muffins everywhere?
00:23:27Maybe that's why we need the exterminator.
00:23:29No, I get the exterminator because it will end in 5 minutes.
00:23:33You know you like to lend a hand,
00:23:35but with this group you may never get it back.
00:23:41Volunteers like you are critical.
00:23:43Your support and enthusiasm makes all the difference.
00:23:47Now, Vero, here, who is my right hand,
00:23:50and sometimes my left one, too,
00:23:52is gonna hand out some assignments.
00:23:54If you have any questions at all, my door is always open.
00:24:00That was so inspiring.
00:24:02Oh, thank you.
00:24:04I'm like one of those posters, you know, with the kittens.
00:24:06Hang in there.
00:24:08I'm Linda.
00:24:09Oh, Natalie, we met the other day by the pie place.
00:24:12You liked my hat.
00:24:13Autumny.
00:24:14Yes.
00:24:15Right.
00:24:16I don't have many people.
00:24:17Good.
00:24:18You just moved to Pittsburgh, right?
00:24:19I did, yeah, and if I'm honest,
00:24:21this is the most welcome I've felt since I got here.
00:24:23Well, new places are tough.
00:24:25When I first moved here from Houston,
00:24:27it took a while for me to fit in.
00:24:28What did you do?
00:24:29Well, they put me in charge,
00:24:31so I just ordered them to like me.
00:24:33Are you ready to get to work?
00:24:35Always.
00:24:40Oh, sorry.
00:24:43You have time for a slice?
00:24:45Pear, rosemary, and red wine.
00:24:47Delish, but be warned, she's woozy.
00:24:50I am so busy.
00:24:51Listen to this.
00:24:52I need to get a stuffed animal from the aquarium for Teddy.
00:24:55I have to stop at the school
00:24:56and I have to get a Carnegie Mellon pendant for Tom.
00:24:58And I still have to find a Pittsburgh cat toy for Janice.
00:25:02You do know you live here now, right?
00:25:04Why are you trying to get all this done in one day?
00:25:06I mean, with everything with the walk to Endell Simmers
00:25:08and trying to get the people in the building to get along,
00:25:10it's like I need to figure out a way to be more efficient.
00:25:12I wish I knew this city better.
00:25:14Andrea, this is for me, BLT.
00:25:17Hello.
00:25:18Yeah, $12.
00:25:21Hey, also, our new friend Natalie here
00:25:25needs a local to show her around town.
00:25:27What are you doing today?
00:25:28No, no.
00:25:29No, I'm sure he's really busy.
00:25:30Well, I mean, I'm not that busy,
00:25:31but you probably want to go by yourself.
00:25:33No, and also, actually, I could use the help,
00:25:35but I don't want to pressure you.
00:25:37$12?
00:25:38Uh, ooh, that's the price of a BLT for helpers.
00:25:42For non-helpers, it's $1,200.
00:25:45Is that right?
00:25:46What are you doing?
00:25:47Steep.
00:25:48Don't make me get my boss.
00:25:50All right.
00:25:52I'll take you.
00:25:55On the house.
00:26:03There is not a single thing on this list that's for you.
00:26:06It's all for other people.
00:26:07We're not having this conversation again, okay?
00:26:09You're here purely to be a human GPS.
00:26:11The only thing I want to hear out of you is,
00:26:13in 10 feet, turn left.
00:26:15That being said,
00:26:16I'm sure this isn't exactly how you plan to spend your afternoon,
00:26:19so thanks.
00:26:24Is that Chuck from the building?
00:26:27It's Chuck.
00:26:28Oh, it's Chuck.
00:26:29Hey, Chuck.
00:26:31Chuck.
00:26:34Hi.
00:26:35Hi.
00:26:36I wasn't doing anything.
00:26:37No, I didn't say you were.
00:26:39It's Natalie from the building, right?
00:26:42And Mark, Mark.
00:26:43Chuck, Chuck, Mark, Natalie.
00:26:44Hi, Chuck.
00:26:46This is weird.
00:26:47No, it's not weird.
00:26:48No, it's weird.
00:26:49You know, we're neighbors.
00:26:50I'm just saying hi.
00:26:52I gotta go.
00:26:53You don't have to.
00:26:54Yeah.
00:26:57He's right, that was weird.
00:26:58It didn't have to be, though, did it?
00:27:01Hey, do you want to get some cider?
00:27:02I do.
00:27:03Do you have any cash?
00:27:04Can I fill this up?
00:27:06Can I ask you a question?
00:27:07In three feet, turn right.
00:27:08You will have reached your final destination.
00:27:10You're getting good at that.
00:27:12Now, you know everybody in this building better than anyone.
00:27:14Why don't you help them fix it?
00:27:16Will you hold this?
00:27:17Can you put this up?
00:27:18Yeah.
00:27:19I don't have any tape.
00:27:20Oh, I do.
00:27:21Thanks.
00:27:22Super's golden rule.
00:27:23You can fix the toilets.
00:27:24You cannot fix the people.
00:27:26What a cliche.
00:27:27Who said that?
00:27:29My dad.
00:27:30Sorry.
00:27:31Building Super Dynasty, remember?
00:27:33Taught me everything I know.
00:27:36Will you hang this up?
00:27:37I don't have any tape, but maybe you could...
00:27:39Thanks.
00:27:40Of course.
00:27:41So, when did you take over for him?
00:27:44I didn't.
00:27:45He stepped down shortly after I graduated high school.
00:27:49And then we moved, and somebody else filled the position.
00:27:52So, what did you do in between?
00:27:54Kind of followed in my dad's footsteps out in the wild.
00:27:56You know, a little of this, a little of that.
00:27:58Mostly handyman stuff.
00:27:59And then I saw Steel Town was looking for a new super, and I thought...
00:28:02Full circle.
00:28:04Steady work.
00:28:07Would you hang this up for me?
00:28:09She doesn't have any tape.
00:28:10Thanks.
00:28:11Can I get it?
00:28:12Yeah.
00:28:13So, how's your dad doing now?
00:28:15Oh, he's retired.
00:28:16He doesn't miss it one little bit.
00:28:18He still asks you for details about the building all the time, doesn't he?
00:28:21All the time.
00:28:22All the time.
00:28:26I love this book.
00:28:27I'm gonna buy it.
00:28:28Let's see.
00:28:29I have a...
00:28:30Can I give you six?
00:28:31Thank you so much.
00:28:32In fact, he doesn't miss it so much that he has already messaged me three separate times
00:28:36just to confirm that the exterminators are still coming.
00:28:39So, our whole building is gonna be out for three hours on Saturday?
00:28:42Mm-hmm.
00:28:44Well, this is what they need.
00:28:46To be out, sipping cider.
00:28:48In nature, connecting.
00:28:51Right?
00:28:52We can call it a captive audience extermination party.
00:28:55I'm not sure it's wordy enough.
00:28:57Whatever it is, it better be fantastic.
00:28:59You're gonna get everybody to play nice for three hours.
00:29:03It is.
00:29:05We're going leaf peeping.
00:29:10And you're coming.
00:29:21See, I'm trying to take that down.
00:29:27Oh, hello, dear.
00:29:29Hi.
00:29:30Do you mind giving me a hand?
00:29:31My old hips aren't what they used to be.
00:29:32You're young and healthy.
00:29:34Tell that to my hips.
00:29:35You okay?
00:29:36Oh, yeah.
00:29:37I was just tying my shoe.
00:29:38And there's not really a bench to sit on out here.
00:29:40We were gonna replace it, but we couldn't agree on the size or the style or what even constitutes a bench.
00:29:49Thank you, dear.
00:29:50Oh, wait.
00:29:51Before you go, we're gonna go leaf peeping.
00:29:52We'd love it if you joined us.
00:29:53Oh, wow.
00:29:55That looks like fun.
00:29:56But, no.
00:29:59Thank you for your help, dear.
00:30:00Mm-hmm.
00:30:03Celia.
00:30:04Hello, dear.
00:30:07It's never gonna happen.
00:30:08Oh, yeah, well, you'll see.
00:30:11Have fun.
00:30:12Always.
00:30:15Mark says no one in the building is gonna want to go leaf peeping, but I think he's wrong.
00:30:19I think it's gonna be a blast.
00:30:21Yeah.
00:30:22Sounds like a regular carnival ride to me.
00:30:24Hey!
00:30:25Oh, you remind me so much of myself.
00:30:27Oh, I'll take that as a compliment.
00:30:29It is.
00:30:30I'm fantastic.
00:30:31But I used to be a lot more worried about other people than I ever was about myself.
00:30:35And eventually, I learned that sometimes you gotta put yourself first.
00:30:39Says the woman running a giant charity walk.
00:30:42I'm running a very small part of it, and there's a huge team around me.
00:30:45But, wait.
00:30:46You're doing that for other people.
00:30:48Yeah, but I'm doing it for myself, too.
00:30:50In a lot of ways.
00:30:51But the biggest is it all comes together.
00:30:53In a lot of ways, but the biggest is that all of this brings me joy.
00:30:58Hey, Linda.
00:30:59The pinwheel flowers came in.
00:31:01You have to see this.
00:31:13Flowers are a way to show your specific connection to Alzheimer's.
00:31:18Purple is for people who've lost someone to the disease.
00:31:22Yellow is for caregivers.
00:31:24Orange is for everyone else who supports our mission to rid the world of Alzheimer's and other forms of dementia.
00:31:31And the blue flower is for those living with it.
00:31:41Wow.
00:31:42There's such life in these faces.
00:31:45Dads.
00:31:46And moms.
00:31:48And friends.
00:31:54That's a picture of you.
00:31:55From last year.
00:31:57But I thought the blue flower was for people living.
00:32:00Early onset.
00:32:02No.
00:32:04But you're not...
00:32:05I mean...
00:32:07You're surprised I'm not old?
00:32:09Imagine my surprise.
00:32:10No, it's unusual, but it happens.
00:32:13I was lucky.
00:32:14I have a family of my own.
00:32:16I was lucky.
00:32:17I have a family history, so we knew what to look for.
00:32:21We're doing every intervention to slow things down.
00:32:25That is so...
00:32:26Heartbreaking, but...
00:32:28But it's so inspiring.
00:32:31Like I said...
00:32:33Sometimes...
00:32:37You have to put yourself first.
00:32:40Hmm?
00:32:42Maybe your friend Mark has a point.
00:32:46Hmm.
00:32:55Alright.
00:32:56Thanks, guys.
00:32:57Right through here.
00:32:58Happy hunting.
00:33:07Nobody showed up.
00:33:12Did you come to gloat?
00:33:13No.
00:33:14No, that's no fun anymore.
00:33:18You know, people still might show up.
00:33:20I just... I wanted to go leaf peeping.
00:33:22I know.
00:33:23Doesn't mean you can't still peep.
00:33:26I don't want to go by myself.
00:33:27Well, you know, just because people don't want you to do something nice for them
00:33:30doesn't mean you can't do something nice for yourself.
00:33:34I'll tell you what.
00:33:36I'll go with you.
00:33:37What? Really?
00:33:38Yeah.
00:33:39I'll go. I'll peep.
00:33:41But we're not walking.
00:33:45No.
00:33:52Well, if this is what me time looks like, I am all in.
00:33:55Oh, it's exactly like this.
00:33:57Except, you know, it's just you.
00:33:59Wow, look at the reflection of the leaves on the river.
00:34:02No, I never actually noticed that before.
00:34:04How do you not notice a river?
00:34:06Well, because I'm busy keeping my eyes on the road.
00:34:08Like you should be. Corner, corner.
00:34:15You know, I think I'm going to like Pittsburgh.
00:34:17Good. I'm happy to hear that.
00:34:19You surprised me, Mark Wallace.
00:34:21Why? Because I'm not a curmudgeon?
00:34:23Oh, you are. You're a total curmudgeon.
00:34:25No, it's mostly just that you ride so slowly.
00:34:29Oh, all right.
00:34:31Woo-hoo!
00:34:43This is spectacular.
00:34:46Nature really knew what she was doing on this one.
00:34:49I'm just bummed more people from the building didn't come.
00:34:52You're so focused on everybody else.
00:34:55That's not true.
00:34:57Okay, it's a little true.
00:34:58A little?
00:35:00When was the last time you sat under a tree and read a good book?
00:35:05When was the last time you did?
00:35:06Last week, and I'm a little offended by how surprised you seem by that.
00:35:10I'm sorry. I just want everybody in the building to...
00:35:14Be your friends?
00:35:18I didn't have a lot of friends growing up.
00:35:21My brother is 12 years older than me, and he left the house when I was six.
00:35:25My parents worked a lot, and I know what it's like to feel alone.
00:35:32And disconnected.
00:35:34Everybody needs somebody. People. People need people.
00:35:39There's even a song about it.
00:35:40Oh, I know. You don't need to sing it.
00:35:43You didn't come back to the building because you wanted a steady job.
00:35:47You came back because you love that place.
00:35:50Maybe. Possibly a little bit.
00:35:54I think you'd be a lot happier if you got involved in fixing whatever's going on between our neighbors.
00:35:59Well, I think you would be happy if you stopped worrying so much about everybody else.
00:36:04So I'll tell you what. I will help you broker peace in the building, but you have to spend more time just for you.
00:36:13Okay, so I help you to be more involved. You help me to be less involved?
00:36:18I mean, I don't know that you would be helping me, but yeah.
00:36:22Well, that sounds like a win-win to me.
00:36:29Okay, so you said half of the building ignores each other, and the other half actively dislikes each other.
00:36:34Correct.
00:36:35So who exactly dislikes whom?
00:36:37Well, you got Mira and Shanti, Zeke and Preston.
00:36:39What about Celia?
00:36:40Oh, she's a special one.
00:36:42Okay, who else?
00:36:43One sec.
00:36:48Now.
00:36:52This is fun, right?
00:36:53So fun.
00:36:54I know.
00:36:55Brought me here to make this evidence.
00:36:57Yeah, so the thing about the trash compactor is if you don't get the bags in all the way,
00:37:00everything can kind of get jammed up a little bit.
00:37:02Oh, no.
00:37:03Yeah, that's a problem.
00:37:04There it is. Yep.
00:37:05Okay, watch.
00:37:06What's gonna happen?
00:37:07We'll see.
00:37:08Hector.
00:37:11Hector!
00:37:14Oh, hi Liz.
00:37:16How did you know he was gonna do that?
00:37:17Not my first rodeo.
00:37:18I get home with my kids, and what do you know?
00:37:20Five minutes later, the ground is shaking uncontrollably because you are blasting your music.
00:37:24And every day, you come down to complain.
00:37:27And what do I say to you?
00:37:28Hector, I can't control my kids.
00:37:31They're insane.
00:37:32If you can't control your noise, then I can't control mine.
00:37:44And also, compost has to go in the compost bin.
00:37:46Yeah.
00:37:47Nope.
00:37:48Yeah.
00:37:49Hey, Liz.
00:37:50Not today.
00:37:51Yep.
00:37:52All right, this problem can be solved with some simple guidelines about noise.
00:37:57It would seem so, but the problem with that, you and Liz, is nothing to do with noise.
00:38:01Something you learn by observing.
00:38:03You mean by being disconnected from the world like a total dude?
00:38:06No, I mean observing the human condition instead of just meddling.
00:38:11And what you would realize is that what people get upset about is rarely what they're actually upset about.
00:38:16Why?
00:38:17What are they upset about?
00:38:18Well, I don't know.
00:38:19That's what we've got to figure out.
00:38:20Well, we just need them to sit down and talk to each other.
00:38:21But how?
00:38:22I don't know.
00:38:23We need to find something that appeals to both of them.
00:38:24I mean, Hector likes to paint.
00:38:26Liz needs things to do with her kids.
00:38:28Maybe something creative?
00:38:29What?
00:38:30What is this?
00:38:31You're getting into this.
00:38:32I'm not getting into this.
00:38:33You are.
00:38:34I'm absolutely not getting into this.
00:38:35You're enjoying yourself.
00:38:36I want to put a stop to the yelling because I can hear it in my apartment.
00:38:38I got an idea.
00:38:39Come on.
00:38:40Great.
00:38:47Hi.
00:38:50All right.
00:38:51You know what I'm going to do?
00:38:52I'm just going to go right in there and I'm just going to be myself.
00:38:54I'm just going to do what I do.
00:38:56Trust me.
00:38:57Trust me.
00:38:58Trust me.
00:38:59Trust me.
00:39:00Hi.
00:39:01Hey, what's up, boss?
00:39:02How you doing?
00:39:03Wasn't it nice of Hector to bring all these art supplies?
00:39:07Wasn't that nice?
00:39:08Mm-hmm.
00:39:12All right.
00:39:14The reason I brought you out here today is I noticed you don't get along very well.
00:39:21Does that ring true for you at all?
00:39:25Okay.
00:39:26I got to be honest.
00:39:27I got it.
00:39:28We got to just get this out there.
00:39:30Right?
00:39:31I don't think it's about the noise.
00:39:32I think there's something deeper going on.
00:39:34Right?
00:39:35Right?
00:39:36So let's just talk about it.
00:39:38You know?
00:39:39Sunlight is the best disinfectant.
00:39:41Thanks.
00:39:42Okay.
00:39:43Let me ask you a hypothetical.
00:39:44All right.
00:39:45Hi.
00:39:46Sorry to intrude.
00:39:47Trust me.
00:39:48Did not want to.
00:39:49Hector, you're an artist.
00:39:52What do you like to art?
00:39:56I'm a painter.
00:39:58Landscapes, mostly.
00:40:00Your grandmother was a painter.
00:40:03Yes.
00:40:04How do you know that?
00:40:05I remember from growing up in the building when I was a kid.
00:40:08And you moved in after she passed away.
00:40:12I didn't know that.
00:40:14I'm really sorry for your loss.
00:40:23She taught me everything I know.
00:40:25I'd go to her place after school.
00:40:28She always said the afternoon light was the best to paint by.
00:40:34I think she was just trying to make me feel better because my mom was always working.
00:40:40Mine worked all the time, too.
00:40:43I swore when I became a mom I was going to be there.
00:40:46You know?
00:40:47All the time.
00:40:50Even though it is extremely overwhelming.
00:40:59I'm sorry about the music.
00:41:03I don't like wearing headphones.
00:41:06And I need something to help me concentrate.
00:41:15Where are we going?
00:41:16Almost there.
00:41:17Almost there.
00:41:19All right.
00:41:22This is it.
00:41:26What are we doing?
00:41:28This.
00:41:30Sitting.
00:41:35I don't understand.
00:41:36Yeah.
00:41:37Just sit.
00:41:39Watch.
00:41:40Watch the world go by?
00:41:41Pretty much.
00:41:42Yep.
00:41:45What do you see?
00:41:48You know what?
00:41:49Actually, Liz should bring her kids here.
00:41:51They would love it.
00:41:52I'm going to text her.
00:41:55What if you just looked?
00:41:58Just look?
00:42:00Tell me what you see.
00:42:02Um, I see people.
00:42:06Yeah.
00:42:07People having fun.
00:42:08Okay.
00:42:09Um, I see leaves.
00:42:12You know what?
00:42:13I see a perfectly symmetrical leaf.
00:42:15Okay, wait.
00:42:16Wait, I think I just got it.
00:42:18So you can't see the forest because you're too busy looking at the trees.
00:42:21You can't see the trees for the forest.
00:42:23I never understood that before.
00:42:25I don't think I have to walk you through the irony of only just getting that right now.
00:42:30Only seeing the meaning.
00:42:34You know what?
00:42:35No.
00:42:36Drea was right about you.
00:42:38Oh, do tell.
00:42:39No, she said you're a good guy, but guarded.
00:42:41I bet she used more colorful language than that.
00:42:43Barb Dwyer and a guard dog?
00:42:45Yeah, that sounds about right.
00:42:47Whoa.
00:42:48Look at that.
00:42:49Wow.
00:42:50Not bad.
00:42:51Look at this.
00:42:52Yep.
00:42:58What?
00:42:59I'm sorry.
00:43:00What?
00:43:01I just, I'm, okay, I'm just wondering, like, why has the good guy not let his guard down?
00:43:11Or has he with, you know, someone special?
00:43:15Special.
00:43:16Special.
00:43:19He has.
00:43:20A couple times, actually, but, uh, that didn't work out so well.
00:43:24He got a meaner guard dog?
00:43:26Yeah, something like that.
00:43:28What about you?
00:43:30Come on, you, uh, you spend your whole life making everybody else the wind beneath your wings.
00:43:36Don't, don't sing.
00:43:38How did she know I had the answer to this thing?
00:43:40Because I'm getting to know you.
00:43:42You never found somebody special to focus all that energy on?
00:43:47Yeah, there has been.
00:43:48I think, um, my particular bright spotlight shining directly on him was a little overwhelming.
00:43:56Well, maybe there's a middle ground.
00:43:59Lose the barbed wire, keep the guard dog?
00:44:02Shine that spotlight on yourself a little more.
00:44:05Forest for the trees.
00:44:07Trees for the forest.
00:44:09What does that mean?
00:44:10I don't know.
00:44:11That doesn't make sense in the context.
00:44:12Just came out.
00:44:13You shouldn't just say things like that.
00:44:14Lose all credibility.
00:44:16Did I have any to begin with?
00:44:17No.
00:44:20Fair.
00:44:22What?
00:44:23Nothing.
00:44:24What?
00:44:26Just thinking.
00:44:29Just thinking.
00:44:46Okay.
00:45:09I can't believe the zoo is double booked for our big walk event day.
00:45:12Oh, I know.
00:45:13Well, I already put in a call to CMU about their campus quad, so I'll follow up tomorrow.
00:45:18What else can I do?
00:45:19I don't suppose you could recruit another team for the walk?
00:45:22I thought we had tons of teams.
00:45:23Yeah, well, one of them backed out.
00:45:25But you know what?
00:45:26The walk's in a week.
00:45:27It's probably impossible.
00:45:28Well, I love impossible.
00:45:30You know what?
00:45:31I'm going to do this.
00:45:32I'm going to start right now.
00:45:34Natalie, it's quitting time, hon.
00:45:37Unplug, take out the batteries, do whatever it is you have to do to power down.
00:45:42We'll talk tomorrow.
00:45:43Okay?
00:45:45Okay.
00:45:47Bye.
00:46:04Hurry.
00:46:13What do you see?
00:46:22I present.
00:46:24Whoa.
00:46:25This is nice.
00:46:26I didn't even know this existed.
00:46:28No, no one ever uses it.
00:46:30It's such a shame.
00:46:31I know.
00:46:32It's a shame.
00:46:33It's a shame.
00:46:34It's a shame.
00:46:35It's a shame.
00:46:36It's a shame.
00:46:37It's a shame.
00:46:38It's a shame.
00:46:39It's a shame.
00:46:40It's a shame.
00:46:41It's such a shame.
00:46:42You know, this would be a great place to build a garden or a play space for Liz's kids.
00:46:47She would love that.
00:46:48All right, all right.
00:46:49Pump the brakes one thing at a time.
00:46:51That is the laundry room.
00:46:54Are we waiting for your delicates to dry?
00:46:58We are waiting for the weekly argument that Shanti and Mira have over wet clothes left in the washing machine.
00:47:04Let me guess.
00:47:05It's about something more than the laundry room.
00:47:09Wait for it.
00:47:11There it is.
00:47:13What?
00:47:14I'm trying to teach a class right now.
00:47:15How am I supposed to do laundry with a machine?
00:47:18Oh, no.
00:47:20We're going to need something a lot stronger than finger paints to fix this one.
00:47:22Yep.
00:47:23Do they have anything in common?
00:47:24I don't know.
00:47:25I mean, Mira's type A.
00:47:26All business.
00:47:27Shanti's like laid back, easy going.
00:47:29What does Shanti do for a living?
00:47:30I think she teaches yoga.
00:47:31The other day when you got off the elevator, Mira was carrying a yoga mat.
00:47:41Namaste.
00:47:42Namaste.
00:47:45Mira, thank you so much for agreeing to come out here today.
00:47:49Well, my regular yogi is on a trip to Kathmandu.
00:47:52Fifth dharma, second chakra.
00:47:54Twice removed?
00:47:58Just kidding.
00:48:00So, Mira, Shanti, it feels like the two of you are struggling with work-life balance.
00:48:07Right, Mira?
00:48:08It seems like you're all work and, Shanti, you're kind of all life.
00:48:12Well, and I just got a huge promotion and—
00:48:14I didn't know that.
00:48:15Congrats.
00:48:16Thanks.
00:48:18But it's double the work and I'm exhausted and I just don't have time to be going in—
00:48:23To keep checking the laundry room to see if I've taken my clothes out of the machine.
00:48:27I get it.
00:48:28I'm sorry.
00:48:30I just got laid off a few months ago.
00:48:32Oh.
00:48:33Really?
00:48:34Yeah.
00:48:35Well, that's terrible.
00:48:36Well, how are you paying your bills?
00:48:38I'm doing virtual yoga lessons online, but I'm like a substitute teacher and I never know when they'll call.
00:48:44Oh, so that's why you keep forgetting your laundry.
00:48:47Mira, it sounds like you need less work and, Shanti, you need more, or at least more regular.
00:48:53Any chance you need to hire an assistant?
00:48:56Someone energetic who lives close by?
00:48:58I could do it.
00:48:59I could do it.
00:49:00Absolutely not.
00:49:01Does it pay?
00:49:02Very little.
00:49:03I'll take it.
00:49:04Yeah?
00:49:05Let's talk benefits.
00:49:06Okay.
00:49:07Okay.
00:49:08Wow.
00:49:09I'm impressed.
00:49:11No, I'm talking about me.
00:49:12It was my yoga skills that got us here.
00:49:14Well, that and the fact that you got involved.
00:49:16Oh, I did not get involved.
00:49:19You can't have it both ways, my friend.
00:49:21Watch me.
00:49:22Oh, you know what?
00:49:23I need to swing by Linda's office to talk to her about teams.
00:49:25Do you want to come?
00:49:26Yeah, I'd love to.
00:49:27Okay.
00:49:28Oh, you know what?
00:49:29I need to swing by Linda's office to talk to her about teams.
00:49:31Do you want to come?
00:49:32Do I have to be on a team?
00:49:37Well, I have someone who says they can find a few people to put a team together.
00:49:41But not the ten we need to hit our stretch fundraising goal.
00:49:45Well, I can get you ten people, no problem.
00:49:47Are you sure?
00:49:48Yeah.
00:49:49Because the walk is next week and you still have to get them to sign up and get donations.
00:49:53I mean, most teams have been at it for months.
00:49:56What happens if you don't make your fundraising goal?
00:49:58Well, it's not the end of the world, but it'll disappoint some people.
00:50:01And I don't like disappointing people.
00:50:03You can count on me.
00:50:05Okay.
00:50:06But you have to promise me that you won't overdo it.
00:50:08You've already saved us with the new venue at the university campus.
00:50:12So don't forget to eat, drink water, take rest breaks.
00:50:16During the walk, you mean?
00:50:17No.
00:50:18During your life.
00:50:19Oh.
00:50:20I like you.
00:50:21I like her.
00:50:23Okay, Mark.
00:50:24It's your job to make sure she doesn't get carried away.
00:50:27Way ahead of you, boss.
00:50:29Now that you mention it, I'm kind of starving.
00:50:33All right.
00:50:34Well, how about a no work allowed afternoon?
00:50:40Yeah?
00:50:42Get out of here.
00:50:44Well, Jimmy Wallace will serve no burger before it's time.
00:50:48I got a reputation to uphold, you know?
00:50:51You know, one of these days, Dad, you're going to have to let somebody else man that grill.
00:50:55Oh, forget it.
00:50:57When I go, I'm taking this baby with me.
00:50:59I have no doubt.
00:51:00Hey.
00:51:01Hi.
00:51:02Hi, guys.
00:51:03Hi.
00:51:04Hello.
00:51:05Who's this?
00:51:06Uh, Natalie.
00:51:07This is, this is, this is, this is, uh,
00:51:10Hello.
00:51:11Who's this?
00:51:12Uh, Natalie.
00:51:13This is, this is, this is my dad.
00:51:14This is Jimmy.
00:51:15It's Jimmy.
00:51:16I'm a Mark of friends.
00:51:17I mean, I'm a friend of Mark's.
00:51:18I'm for, we're friends.
00:51:19I'm a friend.
00:51:20Friends.
00:51:21Uh, namers.
00:51:22Yeah, that's right.
00:51:23Namers.
00:51:24That's better.
00:51:25Natalie's, uh, new tenant in 504.
00:51:26Oh.
00:51:27Oh.
00:51:28Fifth floor.
00:51:29Okay, will someone please tell me what's wrong with the fifth floor?
00:51:31It's not.
00:51:32Oh, nothing.
00:51:33Just some of the people who live up there think that they're better than everyone else
00:51:36because they live on the top floor.
00:51:37Hi, Drew.
00:51:38What are you doing here?
00:51:39Well, I've been going to Glifty's since before you were born.
00:51:42Back when her Aunt Diana ran it.
00:51:44So, uh, Dre gives me pie and I give her burgers.
00:51:47It's such beautiful friendship.
00:51:48Yeah.
00:51:49He makes the best burgers in town.
00:51:51Better than mine.
00:51:52This is true.
00:51:53I can't wait to try one.
00:51:54So, what can I do to help?
00:51:55Oh, no, no, no.
00:51:56Nobody touches Dad's grill, is it?
00:51:58No, this is my kingdom.
00:51:59So, uh, please relax, enjoy.
00:52:02Dre, I don't know, that might be a foreign concept to you.
00:52:04Do you know how to relax?
00:52:07Relax?
00:52:08Ye of little faith.
00:52:09Watch this.
00:52:15His dad is so nice.
00:52:17He is.
00:52:18To me, he's a good guy.
00:52:19Heart as big as the Allegheny River.
00:52:22A lot like his son.
00:52:24So, what's going on there?
00:52:26I see you two out and about and it looks like that grill over there isn't the only thing that's smoking.
00:52:31Would you stop?
00:52:32I don't, I have no idea what's going on, but we're very different.
00:52:35Hey, relationships are like pie.
00:52:38Everything is like pie to you.
00:52:39Everything.
00:52:40Some of the best ones have ingredients that you never think are going to go together,
00:52:44like cheddar cheese on a slice of classic apple and it ends up being delicious.
00:52:50Kids, come get some pie.
00:52:52No, I've done the same thing.
00:52:55Whoa.
00:52:58Hello.
00:52:59Now, are you a blueberry person or an apple person?
00:53:03So, this is a surprise.
00:53:07What's that?
00:53:08Well, you don't come to the cookouts too often and when you do, you never bring a friend.
00:53:13A neighbor, huh?
00:53:15Yeah.
00:53:16This is a neighbor.
00:53:17You know, I mean, yeah, she's, uh, she's, she's, she's, we've been hanging out a little bit, but it's not, it's, I'm not, it's, we're not.
00:53:25Relax.
00:53:26You're going to pull a hamstring with all that dancing around.
00:53:28Look, I know the building is where I work and, and I know what happens if you get too involved.
00:53:33So, end of story.
00:53:35Hey, Wallace.
00:53:36Sure.
00:53:37Yeah.
00:53:39You going to stand on the sidelines?
00:53:41You going to join us out on the iron grid?
00:53:43Gridiron.
00:53:44Gridiron.
00:53:46Hold my beer.
00:53:50We're going to get her.
00:53:51No mercy here.
00:53:52No mercy.
00:53:53You two are going to bootleg around and do a dummy run, but I'm really going to do a Hail Mary to Natalie in the end zone.
00:53:58Okay?
00:53:59Wait.
00:54:00I don't know what any of that means.
00:54:01Don't overthink it.
00:54:02And break.
00:54:03Let's go.
00:54:04All right.
00:54:05Come on, team.
00:54:06Here we go.
00:54:07Here we go.
00:54:13They're very hot.
00:54:20Hard to fake.
00:54:21Hard to fake.
00:54:22Okay.
00:54:25Hard to fake.
00:54:38I did it.
00:54:39I did, I did.
00:54:40It felt so good.
00:54:41Yeah, I bet.
00:54:42Wow, we beat you.
00:54:43Yeah, you did.
00:54:44Too badly.
00:54:45What happened to teaming up?
00:54:46Set them up and knock them down.
00:54:47I set you up and then I knocked you down.
00:54:49Oh man, you are running the risk of another rift in the building.
00:54:52This is fun.
00:54:53Yeah.
00:54:54It's fun.
00:54:55All right, here we go.
00:54:56We're going to go again.
00:54:57We're going to take this one all the way into the outfield.
00:55:00Ready.
00:55:0147, 47, 79.
00:55:03Break.
00:55:08Probably 15.
00:55:09No.
00:55:10No.
00:55:11But I could.
00:55:12Good night, everyone.
00:55:13And thanks again, Jimmy, for the burgers.
00:55:15I expect an extra large slice of pie as payback.
00:55:18Oh, I'll talk to the boss.
00:55:20Oh, no, not the pickle.
00:55:23Good night.
00:55:24Good night, Trey.
00:55:25I'll walk you out.
00:55:27Natalie is very special, Mark.
00:55:30Well, like I said, I'm keeping it professional.
00:55:34I know the rule.
00:55:36You know, if I've learned anything, it's that life is too short.
00:55:40Seriously?
00:55:41Seriously?
00:55:43I broke that rule one time and it cost you everything you had.
00:55:50You know, we never really talked about what happened at the building back then.
00:55:56Not really.
00:55:57And that's on me.
00:55:59I know exactly what happened.
00:56:00I did something reckless and stupid.
00:56:04I mean, I should have said this to you years ago.
00:56:07You've been carrying all that weight.
00:56:09But, hey, I'm okay.
00:56:13I really am.
00:56:16You should know that.
00:56:19And I know a good thing when I see it, and she's wonderful, so.
00:56:26What a fun night.
00:56:27Thank you for the invitation.
00:56:29Well, hey, any Mark of friends.
00:56:31Okay.
00:56:34Well, I got a question, Mr. Wallace.
00:56:37Jimmy.
00:56:38Jimmy, thank you.
00:56:40So, Mark told me that when he graduated from high school, you stopped being the super in the building.
00:56:45What was that about?
00:56:46Did you just need a change of pace, or?
00:56:52Wait, did I say something I wasn't supposed to say?
00:56:55Oh, no, no, no, no.
00:56:56It's okay, it's okay.
00:56:57Dad loved being the super.
00:57:00He didn't need a change of pace at all, but he had one golden rule.
00:57:04Yeah, listen, people have to trust us.
00:57:07Because we have the keys to their homes.
00:57:09So, keep it professional.
00:57:12There was a couple sisters that lived in the building, Clara and Lorraine.
00:57:19And one day, they got into a big fight over something, and Lorraine kicked Clara out, and she didn't have anything, didn't have clothes, or she didn't have anything.
00:57:29And Clara asked her if she could come back in, and she said no, so she went to Dad.
00:57:34And she asked for his master key, and he said no, like he should have.
00:57:41But I was 18, and thought I knew better.
00:57:47You were a kid, you were barely out of high school.
00:57:50I was the grown-up, I didn't handle it very well.
00:57:54So, you let her into the condo.
00:57:56She just wanted what was hers, and then she stole everything but the doorknobs.
00:58:02And they blamed Mark.
00:58:04And they tried, but, you know, it was Dad who took the fall.
00:58:11HOA fired him, and that was it.
00:58:15That's terrible.
00:58:17Yeah, and I was tired of unclogging shower drains anyways.
00:58:23And you weren't.
00:58:29You need to let this go, son.
00:58:33All right, we better get this stuff packed up.
00:58:36Come on, Mark, give me a hand.
00:59:03Love you, Dad.
00:59:05Love you, kid.
00:59:08Bye.
00:59:10Drive safe.
00:59:12Thanks.
00:59:14Nothing like stress-eating seven s'mores to take my mind off things.
00:59:18What am I going to do about this walk situation?
00:59:20The only people I know in Pittsburgh are the people who live in the building.
00:59:24No.
00:59:25Yes.
00:59:26No, not a chance.
00:59:27You're not actually suggesting.
00:59:29You try to convince that, you know what, I forgot who I was talking to.
00:59:33Of course you can.
00:59:35We already brokered peace between Liz and Hector and Mira and Shanti.
00:59:38I guess it's a long way to go before we actually get them to be friends.
00:59:41Oh, what's all this we talk?
00:59:43Focus.
00:59:45We need to talk about this team.
00:59:47There's that we again.
00:59:49You're on the team.
00:59:51That makes us a we.
00:59:53And besides, we said that we were going to solve this together, remember?
00:59:55Well, I guess we got our work cut out for us.
01:00:01I like your dad.
01:00:03Most people do.
01:00:05I understand now why you like to keep it professional.
01:00:09Yeah, learn my lesson.
01:00:12Just focus on the work.
01:00:16You make that pretty difficult.
01:00:20I do?
01:00:21Yep.
01:00:23I knew you were trouble.
01:00:26I might have to find a new job.
01:00:41We noticed that you sneeze every time you come into the lobby.
01:00:45So we got you an air purifier.
01:00:47Air purifier?
01:00:50This is weird.
01:00:55But a good weird.
01:00:57Here's the thing.
01:00:59This space really isn't being used for anything.
01:01:01And I know that we probably should have gotten permission from the HOA.
01:01:03But before you object, at least take a look.
01:01:07This way, you don't have to take Lola out to the street late at night.
01:01:10Instead, she can just pause here.
01:01:14I don't think Lola will like it.
01:01:18Come on.
01:01:20I think she really likes it.
01:01:23I mean, that is a happy girl.
01:01:25It's such a happy girl.
01:01:27She likes it.
01:01:31This is what we in the positivity business would call a good day.
01:01:35We in the negativity business would call this a pretty good day.
01:01:39Right?
01:01:41Pretty good.
01:01:43Yeah.
01:01:44Pretty good day.
01:01:46Right? Pretty good.
01:01:48You two look happy.
01:01:50Well, we fixed things today.
01:01:52Oh. I got a pie case in the back on the fritz. You want to fix that?
01:01:55Sure.
01:01:57Really? You never volunteer to help with anything around here?
01:01:59It was the first time for everything.
01:02:01You're good for him.
01:02:03I know.
01:02:05Alright. Easy.
01:02:07So what can I get you?
01:02:09Two slices.
01:02:11Perfect.
01:02:12You're going to come a long way in a couple of days, mister.
01:02:14Although you have a lot further to go in the me time department, I think.
01:02:18What are you talking about? I'm crushing me time. I'm doing better than you are.
01:02:21Well, it's not a competition.
01:02:23Well, it's a good thing it's not a competition because if it was, I'd be winning.
01:02:25Oh, is that right?
01:02:27You want to talk about winning?
01:02:295 p.m. today. Common Room. Be there.
01:02:31Wait. You want me to show up at 5 p.m. at the Common Room?
01:02:33I don't know.
01:02:35I'll be there. I'll be there.
01:02:37You two really need to just kiss and get it over with.
01:02:42Alright.
01:02:53You know, I didn't tell me anything.
01:02:55No. It's a surprise.
01:02:57Okay. Wait. I'm scared.
01:02:59You're good. Okay. Pause.
01:03:01Okay.
01:03:03Door. Holding for the door.
01:03:05Easy. Easy. I got you.
01:03:07No peeking. No peeking.
01:03:09I'm not. I'm not peeking.
01:03:10And peeking.
01:03:12Surprise!
01:03:14What? Wait. What is this?
01:03:16This is me winning.
01:03:19Are these the decorations from the storage room?
01:03:22Mm-hmm. We did the lobby, too.
01:03:24I told you they wanted them.
01:03:26Oh, you were right.
01:03:28Is this my chili?
01:03:30Mark gave me the recipe he got from you. I hope I did it justice.
01:03:32I'm sure it's delicious, Shanti. Thank you.
01:03:34Liz and I put up the decorations.
01:03:36Together?
01:03:38It looks beautiful.
01:03:40And Drea, look at all these pies!
01:03:42Awesome, right?
01:03:44More like felsen.
01:03:46She's a keeper.
01:03:48Enjoy the party, everyone.
01:03:50You know where to find me.
01:03:52What is this?
01:03:54Well.
01:03:56Thanks, Drea.
01:03:58You could say that I was feeling inspired to help out a little.
01:04:01So I found some old furniture left behind by some of the residents.
01:04:05And took a little of this and a little of that.
01:04:08Wow.
01:04:10You made this?
01:04:12I did.
01:04:14I thought it could be a symbol of what it means to be a community.
01:04:17A collection of mismatched pieces that come together to make something pretty incredible.
01:04:27No, no, no, no, no, no.
01:04:32Is that my headboard?
01:04:33It was, Chuck. Yeah, it was.
01:04:36And that's your sheet.
01:04:38Oh. Okay.
01:04:40Well done.
01:04:42Great work.
01:04:43Thanks, man. Appreciate it.
01:04:44Way to go, sweetie.
01:04:45Thank you. Thanks for your help.
01:04:47All right.
01:04:49You win.
01:04:50I did, didn't I?
01:04:51Definitely.
01:04:52There's more.
01:04:53What?
01:04:54But the rest is up to you.
01:04:56What does that mean?
01:04:57Well, you said you needed a team.
01:04:59I'd say that's a pretty good looking team.
01:05:14You know, honestly, I didn't think you could pull this off.
01:05:17Getting everyone together like this.
01:05:19You doubted me.
01:05:20Yes. Yes, I did.
01:05:22Although, truthfully, I really did.
01:05:25I mean, I'm not sure I would have.
01:05:26Yes, I did.
01:05:27Although, truthfully, I really doubted them.
01:05:30If you can do this, you can do anything.
01:05:32That's pretty great.
01:05:34Is Sylvia here?
01:05:40Maybe one more thing to fix.
01:05:49Sylvia.
01:05:50Hi, Syl.
01:05:51Hi. We're having a party down in the common room.
01:05:53Oh, I know, dear.
01:05:54I can hear you.
01:05:56In fact...
01:05:57Sylvia, the entire rest of the board is already there.
01:06:00We'd love it if you joined us.
01:06:02No, I don't really go to parties anymore.
01:06:04You used to?
01:06:05Oh, did she ever?
01:06:06I used to host them.
01:06:08Back when my husband was still around and we knew everybody in the building.
01:06:11Well, you could still know everybody in the building.
01:06:13Everybody's down there.
01:06:15No, he don't want me at your party.
01:06:17We wouldn't be here if we didn't want you at our party.
01:06:21Is there pie?
01:06:22Is there pie?
01:06:23We have all the pie.
01:06:24We've got so much pie.
01:06:25Okay.
01:06:26I love pie.
01:06:28And that is why the Walk to End Alzheimer's is the perfect opportunity
01:06:33for all of us to come together as a community to support an important cause.
01:06:44So, who's with me?
01:06:56Me.
01:07:00I'm in.
01:07:02Sure.
01:07:04Yeah.
01:07:05Me too.
01:07:06Me.
01:07:07I'm in.
01:07:08Yeah.
01:07:09Me.
01:07:10Yeah.
01:07:11Wow.
01:07:12Really?
01:07:13Oh, this is awesome.
01:07:17Up top.
01:07:26I know.
01:07:27Mmm.
01:07:28Oops.
01:07:30That's not bad, huh?
01:07:31It's so good, right?
01:07:32It's perfect.
01:07:33No, no, the pie.
01:07:34I mean, yeah, the pie.
01:07:35But no, I mean, like, that's the whole thing.
01:07:37Yeah.
01:07:38It's pretty perfect.
01:07:39Pretty good.
01:07:41But I want to—
01:07:42Oh, sorry.
01:07:43No.
01:07:45I just thought it was in my head.
01:07:46Okay, we're both speaking at the same time.
01:07:48I'm going to let you talk.
01:07:52I like you.
01:07:56I, uh, I like you too.
01:07:58You do?
01:07:59I really do.
01:08:03That seems like a good place to start.
01:08:09Really?
01:08:10Yeah.
01:08:11I'm sorry.
01:08:12Just give me one second.
01:08:13Sure, yeah, no, take it.
01:08:14Take it.
01:08:15Okay.
01:08:16Linda.
01:08:17Hi.
01:08:18Hey.
01:08:19Yes, I did.
01:08:20I found a team.
01:08:21I can register them tonight.
01:08:22I need the paperwork.
01:08:23Oh, you do right now?
01:08:24Okay.
01:08:25You're not busy, are you?
01:08:26No, I'm not busy at all.
01:08:27How about the office?
01:08:28Perfect.
01:08:29All right, I'll see you soon.
01:08:30Okay, great.
01:08:31Bye.
01:08:32Okay, bye.
01:08:34I'm so sorry.
01:08:35Yeah?
01:08:36I have to—I have to drop something over to Linda.
01:08:38Sure, I get it.
01:08:39But I'll be right back.
01:08:40I'll be right here.
01:08:41Okay.
01:08:42Hold that kiss.
01:08:43No!
01:08:44Hold that thought!
01:08:45Good save.
01:08:47Okay, I'll be back.
01:08:54Do you know where Linda is?
01:08:56Oh, thanks.
01:08:57Hi.
01:09:00Linda!
01:09:01Hey.
01:09:02I got my whole team registered.
01:09:03Everyone's so excited.
01:09:04I just can't figure it out.
01:09:06What?
01:09:07Who is that?
01:09:09Which one?
01:09:10Her.
01:09:13I know her.
01:09:21Linda, that's you.
01:09:25Oh.
01:09:27Oh, right.
01:09:30Wow.
01:09:32Just when you think you have everything under control, life shows you you don't.
01:09:37No, no.
01:09:39It's okay.
01:09:42Hey.
01:09:43What does my T-shirt say?
01:09:46Life is ooh-hort.
01:09:52Life is too short.
01:09:54Right.
01:09:55And we just can't waste it getting upset about things we can't control, okay?
01:09:59Yeah.
01:10:00Don't waste it, Natalie.
01:10:04Absolutely not.
01:10:07Can you guys just listen to each other?
01:10:08You're not even listening to each other.
01:10:10To me.
01:10:11I'm not listening to you either.
01:10:12Whoa, what's going on?
01:10:13I was just saying that I think the bench would look nice in the breezeway.
01:10:17We could make it a garden.
01:10:19But that's where Lola's new doggie station is.
01:10:22Guys, I think we can accommodate both.
01:10:24No?
01:10:25With that dog, there's no room for anything else.
01:10:28No offense, Lola.
01:10:29I am simply suggesting that one bench is not symmetrical.
01:10:33Technically, it shouldn't even exist.
01:10:35The HOA never gave approval.
01:10:37This garden?
01:10:38Are we talking flowers or vegetables?
01:10:40Because pollen might be a problem.
01:10:41Whatever type of garden we do, I can help make it.
01:10:43Really?
01:10:44Well, you already took enough time off making chili for this thing.
01:10:47It was an hour.
01:10:48Wait, why don't we all just take a deep breath?
01:10:51I knew this was a bad idea.
01:10:52I did.
01:10:53This is no party.
01:10:54This was just an excuse for you to get us all here
01:10:56so that we could help you with your volunteer thing, Natalie.
01:10:58Yep, this was a huge waste of time.
01:11:00What?
01:11:01It's true.
01:11:02And you know what?
01:11:03Things ran a whole lot smoother before she moved in.
01:11:05Alright, alright.
01:11:06Hold on, everybody, hold on.
01:11:07We were just trying to have a little community.
01:11:10I'm sure you had nothing but good intentions, dear.
01:11:14But as the president of the HOA board,
01:11:16I'm going to have to give you an official warning.
01:11:21Okay, I'm not giving you an official warning.
01:11:23I'm going to give you an official verbal warning.
01:11:25Going around the HOA is not acceptable.
01:11:28We don't want a repeat of what happened with your father.
01:11:31Mercy.
01:11:34You can forget about the walk.
01:11:36I can't stand another minute of these people.
01:11:40I'm with her.
01:11:41I mean, I'm not with her at all, but you know what I mean.
01:11:44But it's such a good cause.
01:11:46No, I'll just write you a check.
01:11:47What?
01:11:52Okay.
01:12:01Lola, come!
01:12:09I don't understand.
01:12:11I was gone for an hour.
01:12:13If we could just make them see...
01:12:15Would you please stop?
01:12:16Well, I'm sure that if everyone could just get into one room...
01:12:18Natalie!
01:12:19Stop.
01:12:22I shouldn't have got involved.
01:12:23I got involved, and I shouldn't have got involved.
01:12:25This wouldn't have happened.
01:12:26We can fix this.
01:12:27No, we can't, Natalie.
01:12:30We can't fix this.
01:12:31Some things are just too broken.
01:12:34Wait.
01:12:35No, I don't believe that.
01:12:38I don't want to believe that.
01:12:41I do.
01:12:51I do.
01:13:00I think moving here might have been a huge mistake.
01:13:03Oh, come on, Natalie.
01:13:04Once you start your job, I'm sure you'll meet all sorts of people.
01:13:07You don't have to be friends with your neighbors.
01:13:09No, it's more than that.
01:13:10I almost got Mark fired.
01:13:12I disappointed Linda.
01:13:14Nobody is speaking to anybody else in the building.
01:13:16I tried to make everything better, but I just...
01:13:19I made everything worse.
01:13:20I should have listened to Mark.
01:13:21You did.
01:13:22And Mark sounds great.
01:13:24But maybe take this as a sign.
01:13:26After the walk, I think you should take the next few weeks before you start your job
01:13:30and focus on yourself for a change.
01:13:32Some serious new time.
01:13:34That's what Mark always says to me.
01:13:36Maybe this building is a lost cause.
01:13:38You know what isn't?
01:13:40This Alzheimer's walk.
01:13:42It is just so inspiring.
01:13:44I want to be the best volunteer they've ever had.
01:13:47Oh, you know what?
01:13:48I've got to run.
01:13:49Hey, Linda.
01:13:50Hey, I just wanted to say I'm so sorry
01:13:53for not being able to get together a last minute team.
01:13:56It's okay.
01:13:57It was a tall order.
01:13:59I'm going to make it up to you.
01:14:00Wow.
01:14:01You've done plenty.
01:14:02Look, why don't you just, you know,
01:14:05be in the moment.
01:14:06Here.
01:14:07Today.
01:14:08Take it all in.
01:14:09Well, today is not about me.
01:14:10It's about...
01:14:12everyone else.
01:14:16Listen, I'm here if you need me.
01:14:18You know, for anything.
01:14:21And I don't just mean today.
01:14:24I mean, like, always, if you need anything.
01:14:28Okay?
01:14:31Um, I've got to get these, uh,
01:14:34pinwheels over to Vero.
01:14:35I'll see you out there.
01:14:37Okay.
01:14:39Hit me again.
01:14:41We have a three-piece limit.
01:14:42Here at the Pie Palace,
01:14:43we believe in pying responsibly.
01:14:48I'm sure it'll all blow over.
01:14:51I don't know, Andrea.
01:14:54I got involved.
01:14:55I shouldn't have got involved.
01:14:56I should have kept it professional.
01:14:59Being professional doesn't mean
01:15:00that you don't help people.
01:15:02I know.
01:15:03I know.
01:15:05Being professional.
01:15:06Being professional doesn't mean
01:15:07that you don't help fix the broken stuff.
01:15:10Doesn't mean that you don't care.
01:15:12And clearly you care.
01:15:16About Natalie.
01:15:18I'm talking about Natalie.
01:15:21Excuse me.
01:15:22Could I get some salt?
01:15:23Yeah.
01:15:24I got it.
01:15:32I'm an help.
01:15:36Ah.
01:15:51I'm not sure how long this will take.
01:15:53I don't know, but I don't think this is the right...
01:15:56Well, we'll see.
01:15:57Let's see.
01:15:58Is it on?
01:16:00Guys!
01:16:01Oh, hey, Mark.
01:16:04Can we borrow your tools?
01:16:05I tried fixing this with glue,
01:16:06but I think it's a little more advanced than that.
01:16:10Lola got a little excited.
01:16:12Yeah, of course.
01:16:13This is...
01:16:17Um, but actually, there's something
01:16:19I'd like you to help me fix first.
01:16:21What's up?
01:16:24♪ Moving higher, I won't let them go
01:16:28♪ Looking up so the world can't bring me down
01:16:32♪ Gonna let them show, gonna make them know
01:16:40Good morning, Pittsburgh!
01:16:45Welcome to the Walk to End Alzheimer's!
01:16:50My name is Linda Payne,
01:16:52and I'm the coordinator for today's event.
01:16:56I would like to thank some people,
01:16:58including dear Vero,
01:17:00without whom none of this would have happened.
01:17:05All our wonderful volunteers,
01:17:08they all went well above and beyond.
01:17:11In fact, there is one I would like you to meet.
01:17:14Natalie, come on up here.
01:17:16Me? Oh, my gosh.
01:17:19Natalie is one of our most enthusiastic volunteers.
01:17:23She actually found us this lovely location
01:17:26at CMU's campus when the zoo fell through,
01:17:29and I would love to hear a few words
01:17:31about what she's learned right now.
01:17:33Oh, yeah.
01:17:35Okay.
01:17:36No, I weirdly love giving speeches,
01:17:38so this is okay.
01:17:40Hi, everybody.
01:17:41My name is Natalie Calder,
01:17:43and I was supposed to be walking
01:17:46with a team today,
01:17:48but instead I'm walking solo.
01:17:51It's okay.
01:17:53Here's what I see.
01:17:56Life is short.
01:17:59It's too short to not do the things that bring you joy,
01:18:04and I thought I was doing that
01:18:07by trying so hard to create a community around me
01:18:11when the truth is there was one right in front of me.
01:18:16Yeah!
01:18:19So today I'm going to walk,
01:18:22I'm going to make friends,
01:18:24I'm going to meet new people,
01:18:26I'm going to look at these beautiful leaves
01:18:29that aren't changing,
01:18:31and I'm going to breathe in that crisp autumn air.
01:18:35Those are the things that I am doing for me,
01:18:39because that's what brings me joy.
01:18:48Can I walk with you?
01:18:50What?
01:18:53Oh.
01:18:58What are you doing here?
01:19:01Oh.
01:19:03Someone asked for the salt.
