00:00What's up guys today, I wanted to do a roundup comparison with some of these smaller galaxy phone, you know flagships
00:08With the s24 we got the s22 the s21 the s20 the s10 and the s9 and yes
00:14I am missing the s23
00:16I did trade it in for the the s24, but I'm gonna actually talk about the s23
00:21I'm a little bit later and why I really like that phone if you're thinking about you know, getting the the s24
00:28Alright, so let's go ahead and just get started here with this comparison
00:31I think it's pretty interesting to see you know
00:33How Samsung has been doing over the years because typically we look at the you know, the bigger, you know ultra flagships
00:40But I want to take the time and kind of look at you know, the smaller phones
00:43I guess except for that it's funny because the s9 plus is you know, a plus size phone
00:49But it's actually kind of small these days
00:51So let's check out the design evolution here from you know
00:55The s9 on up and one of the things that you'll notice with the hardware over the years
00:59Is that they've actually been taking quite a few things out of the hardware. So with the s9
01:05The s10 you have the headphone jack in the SD card support and then when we get to the s20 series
01:11They take out the headphone jack in but it still has the SD card support and then we get to the s21
01:16It's completely gone. So s21 on up the SD card, you know, and the headphone jack is completely going from the devices
01:25Which is why a lot of people tend to keep their older flagship phones
01:29Like I have a lot of people on the channel who still have their you know, their s10 the s20 the note 20 stuff like that
01:37Mostly because of the SD card support and basically they really just took it away. I think prematurely
01:44Basically to sell you up on gigabytes, right?
01:47They want to sell you up on buying the higher configuration to make an extra buck
01:51They want to sell you up on wireless earbuds if you guys remember when Apple came out with their air pods the
01:57Wireless earbud thing was really big and everybody wanted a slice of the pie, right?
02:02So it was really a way just to you know
02:05Make more money now you still have some phone companies like Sony still has the headphone jack
02:10You know LG still had it in their phones
02:13But yeah, so that is gone now
02:16But hardware wise I think Samsung has been doing a good job now
02:19I want to talk about the displays and the display upgrade. So with the s24
02:25I think that they're hot actually been kind of like a minor downgrade from the older devices because the s24 has a
02:32Basically a 1080p
02:34Display with 400 something PPI. I can't remember exactly
02:39But yeah, the the real upgrade or kind of kind of the real upgrade here is the max brightness
02:44I think is like the biggest thing here, you know, it being just so bright in direct sunlight
02:49I think 2600 is peak brightness and
02:52I know it's LTPL as well too, which helps with battery life
02:56But as far as like the overall displays
02:59Um, as you can see, they all look really good and Samsung has been making excellent displays for a very very long time
03:06I think you know, we've always appreciated Samsung displays
03:09But just looking at the s9 even if we go back to the s8 note 8
03:12They've been making like top-notch displays for a really long time because this display on the s9 still looks extremely good
03:19Compared to the s24 over here
03:22So the the thing why I said it's kind of like a downgrade a little bit is because the older Samsung phones
03:27they have 1440p displays, so the s9 the s10 and
03:34Then they kind of went more like the 1080p displays
03:37On the like the s21 I believe and up so they all kind of have like 1080p displays now
03:42It could be for battery life. But yeah, you can notice it if you're watching 1440p content
03:48Um, but if you're at a distance like this
03:51You can't notice it at all. You can't notice that these displays are 1440p
03:56And these are 1080p, but I notice if I pull up some 1440p content with like high dynamic range kind of content
04:04Then yeah, so it is very very interesting
04:07But that's like the biggest change
04:09I think with these older phones is that or with the newer phones that the max brightness has gotten really good and
04:15I think this one is about to die
04:18But yeah, so the max brightness has gotten really good on the newer
04:23Samsung phones and overall the LTPO like I said helps with a screen on time for sure
04:29But yeah, just beautiful displays here. And I think also the biggest upgrade here is going to be the
04:36You know high refresh rate. So from the older Samsung's from the s9 s10
04:41They introduced 120 Hertz, which I think makes a big difference. I think once you use 120 Hertz, you will really enjoy
04:49How smooth it is compared to the 60 Hertz now, it's not that 60 Hertz is slow by any means
04:55But yeah, you definitely will notice a difference going to 120 Hertz
05:01But like I said, that's that's probably the biggest difference with the new s24 is that max brightness?
05:07Other than that, they all look pretty similar. They still look really good only because Samsung has been doing this out at such a high level
05:15now do you want to go ahead and touch on the
05:18CPU and just the gaming performance in general here
05:22You'd be surprised even going down to the s9 you still get pretty good performance
05:26But I think when it comes to the snapdragon 855 in the s10 series is where you still see excellent performance still
05:32But something like the s9 it can do pub G, you know as smooth
05:38Extreme but it can only do it at like HDR ultra when we go to
05:43that graphic settings, but
05:45What's interesting is that the s10 is still able to play pub G at HDR extreme
05:52Which I thought is just really impressive. It still does an excellent job when it comes to gaming
05:58For the most part the only difference that you'll notice is really like battery performance here. So the this is where the I
06:05Would say the s23 and the s24
06:07They really shine Samsung didn't really improve the battery performance of their smaller phones until the s23 24 series
06:15But yeah, so the s24 in the newer phones with a higher refresh rate
06:20They can do pub G at 90 frames. That's probably the biggest difference
06:24so if you're like a hardcore gamer, then yeah, the newer phones are pretty good since you can play at 90 frames, but
06:31Like I said, the older phones still do a really good job from the s10 on up
06:36Like something like the s21 FE like this should be able to do the 90 frames. It's just not optimized for it
06:43I guess but these phones do an excellent job
06:46Like I said s10 on up is still gonna be able to play games
06:50Really? Well, this is why I always recommend older flagships because from the s20 s21
06:56It's just gonna do a fantastic job
06:58But like I said, if you're more of a hardcore gamer you need that 90 frames
07:02Yeah, the newer devices make you know a little bit more sense, of course
07:06And also battery life. You don't have to be run to the battery life. And then I think when it comes to the s20
07:13s21 FE
07:15S22 these phones can get a little bit hotter
07:18Than I would like except for the s21 FE it doesn't get as hot but the the regular s21 does
07:25But yeah, so, you know performance on these older Samsung phones are still extremely good now
07:31I want to talk about software in when UI so Samsung has made a big leap with software, especially with the s24
07:38For this phone being able to have seven years of major OS updates. This phone is gonna have an extremely long lifespan
07:45Which is you know a first for Android I think Android Samsung and Google and also this is where Samsung is
07:52Introducing their new AI stuff
07:54So we're going into you know
07:55Kind of a new era of AI as well to with like the photo editor the live
08:01Translations and stuff like that. It is very nifty the circle to search stuff as well
08:06Too is something that I actually use quite a bit
08:09It is really handy to be able to just circle stuff and you can search for it
08:13But yeah, so that's basically where we're at with software
08:16But as you can see when you I hasn't really changed that much a lot of the essential stuffs are still here
08:21Especially if you can you can use good luck on the older Samsung phones
08:25Samsung desktop support secure folders or the software hasn't changed that much
08:29Like I said, the biggest thing with the software is that it's moving towards more AI
08:34So just expect like a lot of AI stuff. But like I said really
08:38you know
08:40It's it's essentially the same even on these devices that aren't getting major OS updates anymore like the s10 the s20
08:47Of course the s9
08:48And also one thing that I want to mention is that the s21 is FE is gonna get Android 16
08:54So that's why I always highly recommend this phone because it's a phone that is gonna get updates and you really don't have to worry
09:00about the software
09:02Experience so there's just something I really like about that phone to mention that I kind of want to do like a speaker test
09:08You're at max volume. I just want to see like, you know, the sort of evolution of the speakers here. We'll start with the s9
09:15Yeah, you can hear a slight improvement with the s10
09:45I
09:55Kind of sound similar
10:04Again kind of similar
10:15Oh
10:27Yeah, so the s24 has the best speaker the bass is way way louder on the s24 and
10:34It has a cleaner sound
10:36It's actually not even close
10:43That's 22 is a little bit better
10:48But it is it's noticeably better on the s24 like it's actually a a significant difference
10:55I
10:56Do want to go ahead and touch on the cameras
10:58So, of course the megapixels have been getting you know bigger with the newer models
11:03Higher resolution video recording and stuff like that 8k and all that good stuff
11:08But as far as how I would describe the pictures just simply sum it up
11:14The s9 and s10 actually still do take pretty decent pictures
11:19If you're in good lighting and you can actually still get a pretty good shot with the s10 and s9
11:25But if you take it out of any type of good, you know lighting situation
11:29Then you will get a softer and grainier shot for sure when it comes to the s20
11:36It does a pretty good job
11:38With you know image quality. I have comparisons, you know comparing it to the latest phones and stuff like that
11:44It does a pretty good job even in a bit lower lighting
11:48Situations, but again, not as good as the new ones, but it does do decent does a really good job still in
11:54You know good lighting situation
11:56The s20 phones still do a fantastic job now the s21 I would say still is very exceptional when it comes to video as well
12:05Too really crispy pictures. I mean it takes very close pictures to you know, the s20 to
12:12Yeah, 22 23 low-light photography is still pretty good on here as well, too
12:17It's just a really good phone for taking pictures. Like I said, it's a sweet spot on the phone
12:21And I would say, you know, obviously the newer phones the s22 23, these are gonna take the best pictures, of course
12:28but
12:29The the biggest difference I noticed with the s24 is that it takes significantly better video as well
12:35I was really impressed the s24 and 23
12:38But like I said the s24 is a little bit better. I mean, it's a little bit better
12:42I mean, it's a little bit better than the s20 but it's still a little bit better than the s20
12:47So basically how I would describe the cameras the newer phones s24 23 22
12:52These are going to take excellent photos, of course
12:55But the video I think is significantly better than the older Samsung phones for sure
13:00The zoom quality is also better on the newer phones
13:04but yeah, so
13:06The newer phones if you take a lot of photos, I would say it's worth it
13:10I mean, it's a little bit better than the older Samsung phones
13:12I mean, it's a little bit better than the older Samsung phones
13:16I would say it's worth upgrading if you have an s9 s10
13:19If you take a lot of photos in low light take a lot of like three times
13:23Photos and stuff like that a lot of zoom shots that it's definitely worth it
13:27But if you don't I don't think it is but the s20 s21 FE these are actually do still take really really good
13:35Pictures and still pretty good video for the most part if you're not, you know, super super, you know
13:40Crazy about photos and videos. Lastly. I do want to talk about battery life
13:44Like I said, Samsung has really not made a big stride in battery life since the s23 and 24 in my opinion
13:52Yes 22 on down
13:54Even if these phones were brand new with a brand new battery life
13:56You're still not gonna get the amazing battery that you're gonna get on the s23
14:03Excuse me and the the 24
14:06So, yeah
14:06So I honestly if you guys really wanted to upgrade for battery life for cameras and you just wanted something newer
14:12Honestly, we get an s23 since it's getting the AI stuff and I would just get that instead of the s24 and just save
14:20a little bit of money
14:22But yeah, that's really how I'm feeling. But if you're coming from like an s10
14:28S 9 I would really consider the s21 FE. I think it's an excellent choice
14:32You can find these for like 200 bucks or you know, the NS 22 if you want something with a slightly better cameras
14:40But yeah, that's pretty much it guys. So it's pretty interesting looking at these devices
14:45Be sure to let me know what you guys think and I'll catch you guys in the next one
