00:00What's up y'all, today we're going to be talking about the iPhone XS in 2022.
00:06Should you buy this phone?
00:08And I absolutely love this phone in 2022.
00:11It's my personal favorite iPhone.
00:13We talked about the XR, I think a few days ago, and I like that phone, but I prefer this
00:18one more.
00:19So I prefer the XS over the XR, over the, even the new SE, uh, 2022.
00:24I prefer this phone.
00:25I think this is Apple's best budget option right now.
00:28And I'm going to explain my reasoning for that.
00:31So first off, we need to talk about the pricing because as always with these older iPhones,
00:36the pricing is just sweet and it just keeps getting better as the years go on.
00:40So you can find the cheapest, um, for a XS is $257.
00:45We saw that the XR was actually kind of close to this price, around $236, um, but the XS,
00:52it does have a few benefits over the XR, uh, which I do really like.
00:56So we need to talk about one of the most important things with the XS is actually this
01:01display.
01:02So the display is much better than on the XR.
01:07So what makes this display stand out?
01:09What makes it so much better than the XR?
01:12So it is actually a full 1080p plus display, right?
01:17And it's 5.8 inches, but instead of the XR's IPS panel, this is actually a OLED panel.
01:24So it's a Super Retina OLED panel, HDR 10, Dolby Vision, and then it is 458 for the PPI.
01:31So it just has better specs than the XR around the board as far as the display quality goes.
01:36So not only do videos look better on the XS, but also if you're into editing photos, it's
01:43just more color accurate.
01:44It just looks more accurate to me.
01:47So that's definitely one thing that I like.
01:49And the XR's display is a 720p plus display.
01:54Like I said, this is a 1080p display.
01:56So everything just looks better to me on this display and colors just look better.
02:01And also you can take advantage of applying dark wallpapers since it's an OLED display
02:05to save battery life.
02:07So that's my favorite thing about this phone is the display is definitely great, especially
02:12at such a cheap price.
02:14Now the next thing about this phone that I like is it actually has a dual camera setup
02:18instead of the single camera setup that the XR and the SE 2022 has.
02:24So when you go into camera, you'll see that you have a telephoto lens.
02:28You can do the 2X.
02:29Basically, you get your zoom shots, you get a more portrait type of shot going, the more
02:35blurry effect with the background, which a lot of people like instead of having that
02:39standard camera.
02:40So the camera on here, it is a 12 megapixel standard and then a 12 megapixel telephoto.
02:46It has 2X optical zoom, and then it shoots in 4K, 24, 30, and 60 FPS with a 7 megapixel
02:52selfie camera on the front that also shoots in 1080p60.
02:58Image quality is actually the same as on the XR.
03:01It's just that you have that telephoto lens to be able to take those zoom shots, which
03:05I definitely prefer at least a secondary camera over just one camera.
03:11I think it's useful to me.
03:13As far as image quality, the telephoto lens does a great job.
03:16Like I said, detail is there, dynamic range is there.
03:20These older iPhone cameras are actually really good.
03:22If you guys check out my comparisons to the 13 Pro that I did, you will actually see image
03:27quality is really not that far off.
03:29It's actually extremely good.
03:31And as far as the video, I think video is super smooth looking.
03:34It looks really awesome too.
03:36I'll go ahead and let you guys see that.
03:37But as far as the image quality, for an older iPhone, I think this still takes very good
03:43photos.
03:44If you're in good lighting, great.
03:45But it's not going to do as good as the newer phones, of course, in the low light.
03:49If you put this in kind of a lower light situation, you will get a grainier and softer photo,
03:54for sure.
03:55All right, guys, here's the video on the XS.
04:00Let's see, I got it on my telephoto lens.
04:16I'll do a little walk around.
04:30Now, just like the iPhone XR, this does have an extremely fast chip.
04:36We are running iOS 15.
04:38And just like with the XR, with this Apple A12 chip, I believe this will get the next
04:43four years of major OS updates easily.
04:47So I highly believe that.
04:49Now, the A12 chip is, again, the same as the XR.
04:52So we have our HDR Extreme.
04:56This pretty much plays any game at high settings.
04:59It does a fantastic job.
05:00So if you want, again, another cheap option for gaming, this is going to give you some
05:06phenomenal performance here.
05:08You do have 64 gigs of internal storage.
05:10And then this one has 4 gigs of RAM on here as well.
05:14And the performance is just top-notch on here.
05:17So if you want to game or if you're just bouncing in and out of applications, whatever you're
05:22doing, the phone still feels fast in 2022.
05:25It does not feel slow at all.
05:27So launching applications, gaming, it is still a very fast phone here.
05:31Go ahead and show you the Geekbench scores as well.
05:35So it does a fantastic job.
05:37So you can go ahead and compare those.
05:39It does a really good job with performance.
05:42So let's talk about the additional features.
05:44This phone has great vibration motor on here as well.
05:47Very strong.
05:49You will definitely be able to hear your phone vibrating.
05:51And also stereo speakers on here are top-notch as well too.
06:12So super strong bass on here as well as you guys heard.
06:16You also have NFC with your Apple Pay, of course.
06:19And then Face Unlock works great on here as well.
06:22I have no issues.
06:23It doesn't feel slower compared to the newer iPhones.
06:27It feels just on par with those.
06:31And also with the design on here.
06:34So it's IP68 dust and water resistant.
06:36It really comes down to your personal opinion which design you like.
06:40I really like the iPhones with the more curved edges on here as opposed to the newer ones.
06:45I've said this multiple times.
06:47But it just feels better in the palm.
06:49Especially if you're playing a game for a long period of time.
06:54The newer iPhones will kind of cut into the hand.
06:57And this is probably not a big issue because people have a case on their phone that smooths it out.
07:02But if you're just using your phone bare, it just feels...
07:07The older ones feel better.
07:08I just really like how these feel in the hand.
07:10They don't kind of leave a mark in your hand.
07:12So that's something that I noticed.
07:13But the design on here I think still looks beautiful.
07:15It's still a really classy design on here.
07:18So I just think this phone has aged extremely well as far as the design goes.
07:23Now we need to talk about the battery life.
07:26Because that's always a huge concern with a lot of iPhone users that go into the refurbished marketplace.
07:32So if you buy from Amazon, I know that there's...
07:35Or it could be...
07:36If you buy from eBay certified refurbished.
07:39So I would go somewhere where it's certified refurbished.
07:42If you buy an iPhone used from somebody, I would ask them.
07:45Before you buy, you send a message and say,
07:47What is the battery health?
07:48So I'm going to go check the battery health on this one.
07:52And this one is 85%.
07:54So you guys remember how I said in the last video that they're not allowed to sell you phones with battery health under 80%.
08:02If you get a phone that's under 80%, the battery life is just not going to be good at all.
08:07So what you could do is return that.
08:09Or you could actually replace the battery, which doesn't cost a ton.
08:14But again, I would make sure that the battery health is going to be 80% and above.
08:23Now, battery life on here is actually not that bad.
08:25It's pretty good.
08:26I'm able to get good screen on time around 5 hours, 30 minutes.
08:31So almost 6 hours of screen on time.
08:33That's pretty good, again, for an older phone like this.
08:36So I don't have any major concerns with battery life.
08:39I think this will get to your average person if you're not doing heavy gaming through a full day of use.
08:45So you do have on here wireless charging as well as fast charging at 15 watts.
08:50And the battery size, just in case you're curious, is 2,658 milliamps.
08:56So overall, the iPhone XS is a really great device.
09:00I really do like it.
09:01Like I said, the real highlights with this device is, yes, it's a little bit smaller.
09:05It's smaller than the XR with that 5.8 inch display, right?
09:09The XR is 6.1 inches.
09:11But it's more compact, so if you have smaller hands, it's just easier to grip and hold.
09:17It's just as fast.
09:18It has a better display.
09:20And you also get that telephoto lens on here as well, which can be useful, I think, to a lot of people.
09:27But overall, it's just an excellent phone.
09:29I don't really have an issue with this phone at all.
09:31Now you guys see why it's my favorite iPhone.
09:34I think the display is great.
09:36You get that extra camera, unlike the XR and the SE.
09:39And it's relatively compact as well too.
09:41So even if you want something bigger, you go with the XS Max as well too.
09:45It's essentially the same phone with better battery life, right?
