00:00The government promised to continue the fight for the peace of the suffering veterans of the war.

00:08This became the center of the celebration of the 80th anniversary of the Leyte Gulf Landings

00:14where General Douglas MacArthur ordered the veterans to return.

00:19This is Bella Lesbora's live report.

00:22Dominic, the celebration of the 80th anniversary of the Leyte Gulf Landings here in Leyte province became a big event.

00:35The administration called for the assistance of each one

00:39so that the peace and order of our veterans in the country can be maintained.

00:46Under the leadership of President Ferdinand R. Marquez Jr.

00:49led by Defense Secretary Gilberto Teodoro Jr.

00:52the celebration of the 80th anniversary of the Leyte Gulf Landings here in Leyte province.

00:58This occasion is historic because it reflects the fulfillment of U.S. General Douglas MacArthur's promise that I shall return.

01:08On October 20, 1944, he returned to the country along with the so-called Allied Forces

01:14and this became the target for the Philippines to use the freedom from the Japanese during World War II.

01:21Also involved in the celebration today was House Speaker Martin Romualdez

01:25and other officials of the government as well as the heads of other countries.

01:30In the program Kapwak Kinalala, Teodoro and Romualdez witnessed the greatness and sacrifice of our war veterans

01:38to use the freedom that we enjoy today.

01:41In their contributions, they assured that the administration will continue to fight for the peace and order of the country

01:49so that the struggle of our ancestors will not be forgotten.

01:53Officials called for the Philippines to be united in using this goal.

01:59In the ceremony, our war veterans and their families were honored.

02:05There was also a reenactment of the Leyte Gulf Landing and other events.

02:10Next, an exhibit was also launched in the province that is still relevant to the occasion,

02:15which was led by House Speaker Romualdez.

02:18Let's go back to the part of the statement of the officials earlier.

02:23May this day be remembered.

02:28The freedom that we enjoy today was not simply given.

02:35It was fought for.

02:38The fruits of the blood, sweat, and tears of our ancestors.

02:45Fellow countrymen, to our veterans, and to every Filipino, their struggle is our struggle.

03:15Let us also celebrate the progress we have made in forging peace

03:19so that what happened then will not happen again.

03:24We commend the solidarity of the nations of Australia, Japan, the United States,

03:31in our shared aspirations for a secure and peaceful region.

03:39Your presence today is a testament of how far we have come

03:44in terms of promoting and protecting our respective national interests.

04:09The administration will not forget to pay tribute to their efforts for the country.

04:15I would also like to add, aside from Speaker Romualdez,

04:18other congressmen were also present at the gathering earlier.

04:22They are encouraging their participation in other activities and services to our fellow countrymen

04:30until the session returns in November.
