00:00Now back to Stiney and Guru on 95.7 The Game.
00:20Kevin Burkhardt, Fox News.
00:21Not Fox News.
00:22Fox Sports.
00:23Three, two, one.
00:24Who cares?
00:25Oh no, that's a big difference.
00:27We all care.
00:28If Burkhardt was Fox News, I'd be like, wait, maybe the Niners won.
00:31What would that make Brady?
00:32Okay, get him in.
00:33It's so funny because driving in today, so many times you guys were talking and I had
00:42in my head the Bob Fitzgerald drop, so what?
00:47And I said it probably 15 times on the drive in.
00:50Now just like the whole thing about, oh, Brock Purdy and his shoulder, so what?
00:55You played football.
00:56The caller said, oh, Brock's got to have a shoulder injury.
00:59What's it called?
01:00He placated him.
01:01It was a placation sensation.
01:02I know when I'm not going to let him bait me.
01:03By the way, I'll tell you who did have a great game.
01:04Tom Brady.
01:05He's terrible.
01:06Just ripped him.
01:07He's terrible.
01:08I like him.
01:09And you watched it twice.
01:10You would.
01:11And I watched it again today.
01:12And for every time he says San Fran, a guy who's from the Matteo.
01:13He can do the Matteo.
01:14He can do the Matteo.
01:15He can do the Matteo.
01:16He can do the Matteo.
01:17He can do the Matteo.
01:18He can do the Matteo.
01:19He can do the Matteo.
01:20He can do the Matteo.
01:21He can do the Matteo.
01:22Every time he says San Fran, a guy who's from the Matteo.
01:26He can do the Matteo.
01:27He can do it.
01:28He can do it.
01:29No, he can't.
01:30He's from here.
01:31No, he can't.
01:32No, he can't.
01:33And the fact that he called him Steve Spagnuolo like 17 times.
01:37What about Burkhardt saying Al Cowling?
01:40It was Al Cowling?
01:41Did he say Al Cowling?
01:42No, he just said.
01:43No, but he was saying Cowling.
01:46There's no Al and Cowling.
01:47You guys are tough crowd.
01:48Right.
01:49But there's an Al and...
01:50Not Tom.
01:51When you are the number one crew and you have two sideline reporters, get it right.
01:56Get it right.
01:57And I'm hearing Bob Fitzgerald in my head again.
01:58Like, you know, Bobby Fitz is a guy who checks all the boxes and he, whether or not you think
02:04that he's a little bit too tough on the refs or too friendly to the home team, he doesn't
02:09mispronounce anything.
02:10And yesterday, Tom Brady.
02:13Oh my God.
02:14The butcher.
02:15Yeah.
02:16Shout out Joe Schaske.
02:17There you go.
02:18Yeah.
02:19Well, the Niners got butchered.
02:20I'm arguing with my guy.
02:21I felt the defense played well enough, guys.
02:24It wasn't their greatest effort to win that game.
02:27Is that ludicrous?
02:28Luda?
02:29No.
02:30No, that's not ludicrous.
02:34I just don't.
02:35Like, sure.
02:36If you want to cut this on the offense more than the defense, I think everybody would
02:41agree with that.
02:43I just didn't feel good about anything, though.
02:46And it's not because there weren't good plays.
02:48You know, Demo, Lamar, Lenore, like there's good plays, but the whole thing was undisciplined.
02:55And that's that's what I and I I've felt this way multiple times this year.
03:00And I guess there's nowhere else to look to.
03:02But the top, even though, wow, gosh, in hands walking up and down the sideline, what would
03:07you say the mofo count was?
03:08Oh, my God.
03:09So many like F bombs and like, especially on that play where Kansas City ran a screen
03:16and they lined up in the neutral zone.
03:18And the referee called the wrong guy.
03:20It was Okawano who lined up offside.
03:22It wasn't Bosa.
03:23OK.
03:24They called it on ninety seven.
03:25It was really ninety one.
03:26But that was a play on second down where they had bottled up the screen.
03:30And Kansas City is going to have to punt the ball most likely.
03:32But you line up in the neutral zone.
03:34And so the drive continues.
03:36Yeah, it's not buttoned up, even in even in little things that you wouldn't see Brady
03:42for all of the things you want to rip him for.
03:44I thought this was a very fair comment on the on the Patrick Mahomes fourth down quarterback
03:49draw into the end zone where he goes, look at these four defensive linemen.
03:53This is wildly undisciplined.
03:55You can't rush like that, especially on fourth down.
03:57Yeah, you did.
03:58Let me think.
03:59Fourth down.
04:00Have we seen the Chiefs on fourth and one before?
04:03What do they do?
04:04Like, of course, Mahomes keeping the ball is a major option.
04:08I go for it.
04:09They just all flew right by him.
04:12They flew like so undisciplined.
04:14You have to keep your assignments there.
04:16And so I just saw it all over the place from constant penalties to Brock Purdy's decision
04:23making and delivery, which the worst game I've ever seen him play by far, by far the
04:27worst game I've ever seen him play.
04:30And you know, if you want to get into play calling, it did seem wacky that they didn't
04:35try more things close to the line of scrimmage.
04:36And why are you throwing more than Mahomes Purdy?
04:38Just even before the game started.
04:40I don't know what happened.
04:4131 attempts.
04:42I don't know what happens to a game plan when you're two wide receivers who are in there
04:46are suddenly not in there.
04:47I don't that.
04:48I don't know.
04:49You know, Debo has a big part of the playbook that no one else can run.
04:53So if he gets sick at the last minute, does that take the I don't know.
04:57I don't know that.
04:58But yeah, I was scratching my head on those two.
05:00But it was just it was everywhere all the way down to the frustration of the end of
05:05Trent Williams punching somebody.
05:06And I know he got whacked first and I'll never understand why that's not a penalty too.
05:10But like they were they were unglued.
05:13They were unglued the whole day.
05:14Mark, this is where you and I, we watch games in a way that's, I guess, singular.
05:21Well, we take it in so well that we only need to do it once.
05:24Look what I have on my notes.
05:25Oh really?
05:26It's interesting you say that.
05:27But go ahead.
05:28Look at what I have on my notes.
05:29Let me agree with Mark.
05:30Brady.
05:31That was terrible pass rush discipline on the Mahomes touchdown.
05:36It was.
05:37Both jumped out at us.
05:39It jumped out at you and then it jumped out at me.
05:41Absolutely.
05:42I don't know if these guys called it or not.
05:44I mean, geez, really hard to tell that when you have four guys rush through the outside
05:49and it's not even a quarterback draw that's called.
05:51But when you're the quarterback and you get back to your five steps and you look and you
05:55go, oh my God, there's nobody between me and the end zone.
05:59Yeah, it was terrible rush discipline.
06:00I'll wait to hear it from Cosell.
06:02On Wednesday.
06:03Yeah.
06:04And you will.
06:05Brady said it was option two.
06:07Brady broke that for whatever you want, if you believe him or not.
06:10Brady said on a play like that, he's going to look at Kelsey and if Kelsey's not there,
06:14he's keeping it.
06:15That was that.
06:16And that was the call.
06:17If the middle is that open?
06:18Yes.
06:19Well, if it's not, you'll look to option two or option three.
06:20Mahomes looked like he had the thought of, oh, it's open.
06:23Let me go through the area.
06:24So open.
06:25I guessed it.
06:26So open.
06:27And then I'm a truck your Ronnie Lott.
06:28Oh, he laid it.
06:29Whatever.
06:30I know it's a play.
06:31He was already in the end zone.
06:32That's gotta.
06:33And you know what?
06:34Put some respect on Malik Mustafa's name.
06:35He's having fun with it.
06:36He's got the only two real big hits.
06:38And maybe if you actually watch the game, Stein, you'll see it.
06:41But Malik Mustafa delivered two absolute thunderous blows.
06:46But other than that, the defense, so thunderous, I can't remember because you didn't, you didn't
06:52watch him.
06:53He put him on his back.
06:54Don't sniff that.
06:55No, don't sniff that one.
06:56I will sniff anything when Dibley comes at me first.
06:59Oh, OK.
07:00Well, I will come at you because you came at me.
07:03That's Willard.
07:04You came at me.
07:06There was a play in that game that this is where the NFL, it's so hard on defensive players.
07:13The Mahomes run.
07:14Well, it's just so hard, like he's tiptoeing and you know, if you if you drill him, it's
07:22going to be a penalty.
07:23Crenlaw would have drilled his ass.
07:24That's great.
07:25And he would have gotten a penalty.
07:26It's not wrong.
07:27But the reason I hate that we're making such a big deal on that play is is two reasons.
07:33One, Dee Winters overruns the play.
07:36So that doesn't that doesn't mean that he stopped.
07:38Well, he got juked.
07:40The idea of being stopped means you wouldn't overrun it.
07:43You would stop.
07:44Dee Winters flies out of bounds.
07:45The other two guys did not have a shot at it.
07:48They were slow.
07:49They were behind him.
07:50They were not in position.
07:52So he shook Fred.
07:53Yeah, he shook him.
07:54Yeah, he did.
07:55But Fred was hurt.
07:56Fred was hurt.
07:57According to Grimm.
07:58No, Fred was not.
07:59He's got a bad wheel.
08:00Dragging it around.
08:01No, Fred was behind the play.
08:02He tried to dive at him and he didn't get it down.
08:03He got stiff arms.
08:04Yeah.
08:05He switched the ball to his left hand and he wasn't there.
08:06Mahomes gave him a little bit of a mini stiffy.
08:07And then the bigger issue.
08:08Mahomes is not a small man.
08:09It's not like, I mean, you could just take him down because you touch him.
08:10It was the OG running.
08:11Right.
08:12All you people hating on Devondre Campbell, bring that same energy to Winters today.
08:13Bring that same energy.
08:14He flew by twice.
08:15He made a stop early on Hunt.
08:16I was like, oh, 53, ready to play.
08:17I was like, oh, 53, ready to play.
08:18I was like, oh, 53, ready to play.
08:19I was like, oh, 53, ready to play.
08:20It was a very, it was a complete undisciplined effort by the 49ers.
08:46I don't know if you want to blame it on injuries.
08:50You're talking about a button, you know, from Mostafa to Winters.
08:53You're talking about very young players who are going to over pursue at times.
08:58But you add that in with constant penalties, with turnovers, with offensive line, complete
09:05missed assignments.
09:06They just, they just weren't buttoned up.
09:09You can make it about talent if you want.
09:12And there's a conversation to be had everywhere today.
09:16But they just weren't buttoned up.
09:17You don't beat the Kansas City Chiefs.
09:18Like everybody also noticed Mahomes didn't do anything that special.
09:22You would have paid for that stat line if you were a niner player.
09:25Yeah.
09:26People who want to come at Brock for like, oh, he's slightly under through Jacob Cowen.
09:30Well, I saw Mahomes have somebody wide open down the middle of the field.
09:33He hucked it 10 yards over his head.
09:35So like Mahomes wasn't great, but they're buttoned up.
09:38They don't shoot themselves in the damn foot repeatedly.
09:42And that's what is so frustrating about watching this team right now is they shoot themselves
09:48in the foot a lot.
09:49I'm looking at the game log, having watched it again today, and I'm trying to find a play
09:54where Kansas City had second and more than 10 or third and more than 10.
09:59And there wasn't a one.
10:00No one.
10:01Not one.
10:02Niners had a, well, there were six and 11 on third down.
10:04I mean, eight for 14.
10:06Because they get into manageable and you talk about the drive that salted the game away
10:11and it was hunt, hunt, steal, steal, steal, hunt, hunt.
10:14And then you threw it to Gray and then P. Ryan a couple of times.
10:18P. Ryan got to get him the ball and then P. Ryan on a pass and then Hardman on that jet
10:23sweep and it was night-night.
10:24And if I had a dollar for every time Tom Brady from Sarah High School said, the Niner receivers,
10:29and this is starting to bother me, are not getting open, I would be a rich man and I'm
10:34starting to wonder, and this was when IU, before IU got hurt, and that was just tragic.
10:39But at the end of the day, are we all looking at each other now that the receivers in the
10:44red and gold aren't getting any separation?
10:46Like, it's a thing now.
10:48And I'm like, how did we get here?
10:50And can that all be true?
10:52All of a sudden, Willard, he said it more than three times yesterday.
10:57And they used IU for half the game, Pearsall for most of it, and no Jennings, who may be
11:03their best man-beater, Dibbs.
11:06Maybe.
11:07Gray couldn't answer.
11:08Which we didn't wait and see, because none of the people we asked about actually played
11:11football on Sunday.
11:13But anyway, yeah, you had IU for a half, you've got Pearsall playing his first NFL game, you've
11:18got Cowling essentially playing his first NFL game where he's running routes, and everyone
11:22thinks Ronnie Bell stinks.
11:23So what, like, okay, why did he throw to Kittle a lot?
11:27He was open.
11:28Kittle was open some.
11:30So I don't even know, I don't know how to answer that right now.
11:34Like, yes.
11:36And by the way, the Chiefs defense is really good.
11:38No doubt.
11:39You're listening to 95.7 The Game, KGMZ FM and HD1 San Francisco, always live on the
11:43free Odyssey app, Twitch and YouTube, powered by First NorCal Credit Union.
11:48First three drives for the Niners in the second half, three for nine for Purdy with two interceptions.
11:53So does that mean that they're all covered up and there's nothing you can do?
11:57Yes and no.
11:58Here's an idea.
12:00Maybe quick passes or screens or swing passes or something to where you can just get the
12:05ball directly to a guy and maybe he can make a play.
12:09But what about the first one, which I think was the most egregious one, where he wrote
12:13play action, rolled out to the right and threw it and didn't even see the safe.
12:17Like that was a Jimmy type pick.
12:19Yeah.
12:20For me, the the one in the end zone was the worst one.
12:22Yeah.
12:23And that, I agree.
12:24And Kansas City rushed three.
12:26They rushed three.
12:27So you've got five blockers and you rushed three.
12:30And Karloftis with the little spin move on your boy, McKivitts, and he gets through and
12:36Brock instead of maybe eating it and, you know, getting the field goal.
12:40And this is where you want Brock to be a gunslinger and you want him to take chances.
12:44That's one where he didn't see him coming or maybe he thought that he could thread it
12:48between three guys.
12:49No matter what, that was a bad throw, even if he didn't get his arm hit.
12:53Agreed.
12:54Yeah.
12:55Because he, like, if he doesn't get his arm hit, if you're looking at an open receiver,
12:57you're like, OK, I can see what you're doing.
12:59The guy had two people in front of him.
13:00Yeah, I didn't.
13:01And three points would have helped you there, too.
13:02Although, so you're, situationally, you're right.
13:05That's the worst pick.
13:06But the most concerning one is, dude, you threw a 15-yard pass 25 yards.
13:11Wow.
13:12Like, what the hell?
13:13And when you watch the slow-mo replay.
13:15Defensive back made a nice catch and kept the speed in back.
13:17He sure did.
13:18He threw it right to him.
13:19The ball, the ball sailed.
13:20The ball, the ball sailed on Brock.
13:22Yeah.
13:23It just had air underneath it.
13:25Man.
13:26Like, I know today, today is going to be, and this week is going to be, one of the longest
13:31weeks of Brock Purdy's and Kyle Shanahan's careers.
13:35But what I hear from a lot of people that I don't understand is, why can't it just be
13:41an awful game?
13:43And what we hear, and I think this is a lot of social media, is you have to get to the
13:46end of one game, and now this means this about a certain person's career.
13:52I'm not turning in my Brock card today.
13:55I'm not turning it in.
13:56Boy, you asked that.
13:57Come on.
13:58No.
13:59But I'm not turning it in.
14:00I'm not turning my Kyle card in.
14:01I'm not even turning my Niner card in.
14:02And I can say all that and also say, they all sucked yesterday.
14:05There it is.
14:06That's off-band.
14:07And one play doesn't make the game.
14:11When they made it 14-12, I felt like a two-point conversion was a no-brainer there.
14:16What were you guys feeling at the time?
14:18I see both sides, but I was like, do it or not.
14:22I liked the one.
14:24They make the kick, and then they score a touchdown, and it's 21-13.
14:28Unless they want to go for two, which they wouldn't, they would kick it, so you'd be
14:31down 21-13, one score game.
14:34I thought going for two there is a little bit too desperate with, man, you still had
14:39like 10 minutes left in the third?
14:41There was something, though, I was thinking psychologically of.
14:44Time.
14:45You're not really playing well.
14:47You found yourself just, boom, touchdown, a two-point conversion, and we got a tie ball
14:53But I thought you were playing well, because you came out of the locker room, and you had
14:56a takeaway, and you started at their 23, and so that was kind of a found possession, and
15:02you scored, and so even if you kicked the one, you're just down one.
15:07No, I hear you.
15:15Confirming the fears and more, Brandon Aiyuk has indeed suffered a torn ACL and MCL.
15:22So this is a complete reconstruction that is going to be necessary, and Ian Rapoport
15:28suggests, quote, there may be other damage, too.
15:32So the season is over, and 2025 is even going to be a challenge, at least for the first
15:39part of it, all confirmed by MRI today.
15:42I don't think I've ever heard, I'm serious, with the ACL, MCL, and other damage.
15:47There could be other damage is what it said.
15:49So this is a really bad one, a full reconstruction of Brandon Aiyuk, and what can only be described
15:57as just a season and offseason that had negative energy surrounding it from the beginning.
16:05Whatever your opinion is, whatever side you're on, whatever you thought the Niners could
16:09or should do, the whole thing just seemed destined for problems from the beginning,
16:16and this is how it ends, quickly.
16:19Yeah, and I mean, it's just been a nightmare season for him, there's no doubt about it.
16:25And this is where I was coming from, and again, I'm not saying you're wrong and I'm right,
16:31but that's kind of the way, I feel like the 49ers approach games with the Chiefs.
16:36You score to make it 14-12, and you're already thinking, well, if we go for two and miss
16:42it, and then they score a touch, it's like, get even, get even!
16:48I get what you're saying, but I'm not a big fan of chasing points early.
16:52Here's how I would describe it.
16:54In that moment, I know Dan Campbell would have gone for it, and that's not always a
17:00good thing.
17:01But I didn't look at it so much as chasing points, because they hadn't missed an extra
17:04point there.
17:05Yeah, you're just, you don't need, like, in other words, yes, you're even, that doesn't
17:11really do anything for you in that moment, there's almost a whole half of football left.
17:15Psychologically, maybe?
17:17I don't know.
17:18I mean, obviously, it blows up in your face when the kid comes out and misses the extra
17:21point.
17:22Then you feel like an idiot.
17:23No doubt, but...
17:24But who the hell thought that was going to happen?
17:26That's not what I'm holding, that's not what I'm holding against them, I just thought maybe
17:31that might have been the time.
17:32I get it.
17:33My first thought when they went in was go for two, and then I went, ah, wait, don't
17:38get caught up in the moment.
17:40You're fine, you've got momentum, you know what I mean?
17:43If there's almost two quarters left, don't chase points.
17:48And then the guy doinked it that time.
17:51They had a fourth and two there, before that touchdown, I believe, fourth and one, I actually,
17:59this is what I said at that time, I'm like, I know you're going to call me crazy, but
18:02I'm taking three.
18:04Because I feel like sometimes, when you have a, oh, we got a red zone issue, then it makes
18:09you make the decision to go for it.
18:12And I felt like, boy, take the three and you're one score.
18:15That was the juice push.
18:16But then it all ended up fine.
18:18The juice squeeze, the squeeze box, and they pushed him.
18:22And then, when they scored on the other sneak, which was a brilliant play call.
18:26That was a great call.
18:28Brilliant, where you send both of the guards out, and then you still sneak it up in there.
18:32A quarterback sneak that for once you don't know is coming.
18:35Right.
18:36Yeah, that was great.
18:37That was great.
18:38Or if you thought it was coming after a split second, you were like, right.
18:41I thought momentum was such a huge thing in this, it always is.
18:45But in this particular game, the stadium, when they went in to make it 14-12, was absolutely
18:51alive.
18:52And then they forced a three and out.
18:53And that's why when you say, what was the worst pick?
18:56I pause.
18:57Because the one where he overthrows Ronnie Bell, it popped the balloon.
19:02The stadium was alive.
19:04And even if you overthrow that thing and throw it out of bounds, you have a 52-yard field
19:09goal to take the lead in that moment and to throw a pick there.
19:14That's why I just, what a head-scratching day for Brock Purdy, because it wasn't just
19:18bad picks.
19:19All three of them came in moments where you took the entire sails out of the stadium.
19:26Even the first one.
19:27Nope.
19:28Man.
19:29You stop the fake punt, which by the way, this is the only moment I pat myself on the
19:34back on this one.
19:35I'm sitting there with the Mike Christie.
19:36You saw it coming?
19:37I go, watch the fake.
19:38Watch the fake.
19:39Watch the fake.
19:40Watch the fake.
19:41Watch the fake.
19:42Watch the fake.
19:43I'm saying it out loud.
19:44Well, and they left the defense on the field.
19:45Yes.
19:46So they chalked that up to him learning.
19:47Yes.
19:48They knew.
19:49Because it's at midfield and it's a short down to gain and all of that.
19:50And to throw the first play, man.
19:51So great job.
19:52And you get Mo.
19:53Yep.
19:54And then, my gosh, he just took the win right out of the sails.
19:56Wow.
19:57Ugh.
19:58They were a little bootleg, which everyone's talking about bootlegs and moving Brock and
20:02all the rest of it.
20:03And Kittle's just not open and he throws it anyway.
20:06He might have been triple covered on that.
20:08I didn't write that down in my notes.
20:09But that was a.
20:10Oh, my God.
20:11That was so bad.
20:12That was Jimmy Garoppolo.
20:13Was it worse than Debo not being able to go?
20:16Like, dude, stay in the locker room, man.
20:17It's always something with him.
20:19He tried.
20:20He catches the ball and runs.
20:21I'm trunking you over.
20:22I'm coming out with the boom box.
20:23But then I lay on the ground.
20:24I need oxygen.
20:25Willard, you know, you're a grown ass man.
20:27If you can go or not.
20:29And then you come out in the camera.
20:30Like I would have stayed or went home and had some chicken noodle soup.
20:33I'm just tired of the camera.
20:35Like, dude, you let your team down.
20:38Like, damn, take care of your body.
20:40Know if you're playing.
20:41But you can't tell me that was a nothing burger.
20:44But that's just encapsulate everything that he is, man.
20:47I'm like, so you can't play, but you can sit out here and watch this.
20:50I just to me, I would have left and gotten a cab and went home and caught and people
20:55would have understood.
20:56It was big for me because I had under receiving rushing yards from Debo on prize picks.
21:01Nice.
21:02Good for you.
21:03And did they still count?
21:04But they did.
21:05Actually, the Iuke, you get a reboot because he got hurt because I was on Iuke over on
21:10the catches and then he gets hurt.
21:11And so being a jerk with that thought just crossed my mind in a moment.
21:17I have a hard time getting into other guys' bodies and all of that.
21:21Like, I don't like that.
21:22But it did cross my mind where I'm like, sick, like, like, I just were so cool enough to
21:29watch the game.
21:30We're so used to NFL players being just the toughest thing on Earth.
21:35And it's like this game is happening and you're sick.
21:41Like that's what took you out of all the things that you do, like you sacrifice your body
21:47on every play and you got to this moment and you're like, I'm not, I can't be mad at it,
21:55but it's like, it's surprising.
21:56It's surprising.
21:57No, for sure.
21:58When you saw, I'm sorry, Stiney, when you saw him go into the locker room at like right
22:05before the half and you could see him, like, it looked like he was fighting it to not throw
22:09up on the field.
22:10But NFL players like to throw up on the field, like throw up and go to the next play.
22:16DNP bubble guts.
22:17I think there are.
22:18So he's gutless.
22:19Well, I'm with him.
22:20That's his problem.
22:21Well, he is after he went in the locker room.
22:22I mean, I make a distinction between him being sick and always laying out in the field
22:30because he's hurt.
22:31It's like he's maybe the toughest runner in the NFL.
22:34Like he's got, that's the price he pays for playing the way he plays.
22:38Like he may get hurt.
22:39I don't know what to say about the sickness.
22:41Could have been a flu game.
22:42Michael Jordan.
22:43Yeah.
22:44All right.
22:45Well, you guys certainly have a lot to talk about today.
22:48And one of the places you're going to be doing it among YouTube and I was going to
22:53say, are we supposed to go somewhere?
22:55Is this like a podcast business text line?
22:57But your bread and butter is always 95.7 The Game.
