00:00:50To the world we all know,
00:00:52which may or may not be the best world possible,
00:00:55once again springtime had come.
00:00:59But all the magic of spring
00:01:01was not enough to conceal the misery of Manor Farm.
00:01:12Once thriving and fruitful,
00:01:14the farm and its owner, Mr. Jones,
00:01:16had fallen on evil days.
00:01:21Beset by problems of his own making,
00:01:23Mr. Jones had turned to drink.
00:01:28And for his misery, he had found poor company.
00:01:43On the evening our story begins,
00:01:45it was later than usual when Mr. Jones came home
00:01:48from his drinking to make his rounds.
00:02:28Damned old hen-sleigh!
00:02:58Good for nothing beasts!
00:03:02Eat their heads off!

00:03:59On this night,
00:04:01all the animals had agreed
00:04:03that as soon as Mr. Jones was in bed,
00:04:05they would gather in the main barn
00:04:07for a secret meeting,
00:04:09called by Old Major,
00:04:11the prized boar hog,
00:04:13who because of his years
00:04:15was regarded as by far the wisest of the animals.
00:04:19The other pigs started first for the meeting,
00:04:22being clever and fond of taking the lead.
00:04:30They were followed by Boxer,
00:04:32largest and strongest of the horses,
00:04:35and his devoted friend, Benjamin, the donkey.
00:04:39All the other animals, great and small,
00:04:41were anxious to get there,
00:04:43for such a meeting had never been held before.

00:05:38Old Major had been ailing,
00:05:40and now he had made known
00:05:42there were some things he wanted to say
00:05:44to his fellow animals before it might be too late.
00:06:10It took a while for all to find their seats.
00:06:13The pigs had taken up the best positions
00:06:15immediately in front of the platform.
00:06:17Among them, Snowball,
00:06:19determined to get a good view.
00:06:23And Napoleon,
00:06:25equally determined
00:06:27and even less polite.
00:06:35What was that?
00:06:40No.
00:06:42No, it wasn't Mr. Jones.
00:06:53And at last,
00:06:55everyone could be settled
00:06:57to hear Old Major.
00:07:01My dear friends,
00:07:05I have lived a long life.
00:07:09I have had much time for thought
00:07:12as I lay alone in my stall.
00:07:17I won't be with you much longer.
00:07:22And before I die,
00:07:24there's something I want to tell you.
00:07:30Few of us will ever know
00:07:33the blessings of a peaceful old age.
00:07:39You, Boxer,
00:07:41when you have given
00:07:43the last of your great strength,
00:07:45what then?
00:07:53Whatever we produce
00:07:55is taken from us,
00:07:57stolen from us,
00:07:59and sold.
00:08:05Our children,
00:08:07are born to cold and hunger.
00:08:16Look at them while you can.
00:08:22You, Porkers,
00:08:25do you know what the future holds for you?
00:08:30Do we deserve such a fate?
00:08:35Is this farm too poor
00:08:37to support us all?
00:08:39No, comrades.
00:08:42When a farm is rich,
00:08:45but we'll never get our rightful share
00:08:47from farmer Jones.
00:08:50Overthrow this evil tyrant
00:08:53and we shall be rich
00:08:55and rich and rich and rich
00:08:57and we shall be rich and free!
00:09:03Comrades!
00:09:07Revolt!
00:09:09Help!
00:09:25But remember,
00:09:28when you have got rid of Jones,
00:09:32don't adopt his vices.
00:09:36We animals are brothers,
00:09:40large or small,
00:09:42clever or simple,
00:09:45fur or feathers.
00:09:47Now and forever
00:09:50all animals are equal.
00:10:05We will be rich and rich and rich and rich
00:10:08and we shall be rich and rich and rich
00:10:11and we shall be rich and rich and rich
00:10:14and we shall be rich and rich and rich
00:10:17and we shall be rich and rich and rich
00:10:20and we shall be rich and rich
00:10:23and we shall be rich and rich
00:10:26and we shall be rich and rich
00:10:29and we shall be rich and rich
00:10:32and we shall be rich and rich
00:10:35and we shall be rich and rich
00:10:38and we shall be rich and rich
00:10:41and we shall be rich and rich
00:10:44and we shall be rich and rich
00:10:47and we shall be rich and rich
00:10:50and we shall be rich and rich
00:10:53and we shall be rich and rich
00:10:56and we shall be rich and rich
00:10:59and we shall be rich and rich
00:11:02and we shall be rich and rich
00:11:05and we shall be rich and rich
00:11:08and we shall be rich and rich
00:11:11and we shall be rich and rich
00:11:14and we shall be rich and rich
00:11:17and we shall be rich and rich
00:11:20and we shall be rich and rich
00:11:23and we shall be rich and rich
00:11:26and we shall be rich and rich
00:11:29and we shall be rich and rich
00:11:56The very next morning, sooner perhaps than Old Major would have predicted,
00:12:25the animals found their situation quite unbearable.
00:12:55The animals found their situation quite unbearable.
00:12:58The animals found their situation quite unbearable.
00:13:01The animals found their situation quite unbearable.
00:13:04The animals found their situation quite unbearable.
00:13:07The animals found their situation quite unbearable.

00:16:44And so, almost before they realized it,
00:16:47the animals had fought and won.
00:16:50They had casualties to mourn,
00:16:53and those who died left children to be cared for.
00:16:56They had casualties to mourn,
00:16:59and those who died left children to be cared for.
00:17:02But Manor Farm was theirs,
00:17:05and they lost no time in destroying everything

00:21:23The Animals
00:21:47The Animals were all agreed that Jones his house was no place for them.
00:21:52All that is, except Napoleon.
00:22:18Meantime, Snowball led the other animals
00:22:21to organizing a new society,
00:22:23which they now named Animal Farm.
00:22:32So that all might see and agree,
00:22:34the laws of Animal Farm were inscribed in a prominent place,
00:22:38to be remembered and obeyed forever.
00:22:43No animal shall sleep in a bed.
00:22:47No animal shall drink alcohol.
00:22:51Four legs good, two legs bad.
00:23:00Wings count as legs.
00:23:02Four legs good, two legs bad.
00:23:09Four legs good, two legs bad.
00:23:16No animal shall kill another animal.
00:23:22All animals are equal.
00:23:32Ah!
00:23:57Tending farm by themselves posed problems for the animals,
00:24:01but the pigs could think of a way around every difficulty.
00:24:31Boxer was the admiration of everybody.
00:24:34He had been a hard worker in Jones' time,
00:24:37but now he seemed more like three horses in one.
00:24:45He was a good boy,
00:24:47but he was not a good boy at all.
00:24:50He was a good boy,
00:24:52but he was not a good boy at all.
00:24:55He was a good boy,
00:24:57but he was not a good boy at all.
00:25:01Instructed by Snowball,
00:25:03other animals worked out the rest for themselves,
00:25:07and the farm work was done like magic.
00:25:30Oh, I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I'm sorry,
00:26:00I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I'm sorry,
00:26:22I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I'm sorry,
00:27:30That
00:27:55summer the animals, without any help or any interference,
00:27:59made a going proposition of animal farm.
00:28:22The fields yielded richly, and they were cut and gleaned with diligence and devotion.
00:28:44With the harvest safely home, the animals had time to think of the future, and at a
00:28:49meeting in the big barn, many resolutions were put forward.
00:28:54It was always the pigs who made the resolutions.
00:28:57Comrades, our first five-months plan is a far-wide triumph, and the time has come to
00:29:08spread the glorious news, so that our downtrodden comrades on other farms will break their chains
00:30:19Others, happy in their own surroundings, were alarmed at the thought of any change.
00:30:28But wherever they were having a bad time, animals listened with interest.
00:31:26In certain quarters, the rebellious behavior of a lot of dumb animals caused indignation
00:31:32and much conversation.
00:31:34But nothing was done about it, for the drunken Mr. Jones and his cronies did not know what
00:31:39to do.
00:31:43Snowball felt that education was the animal's next necessity.
00:31:47Some of the animals were brighter than others, of course.
00:32:47Snowball set himself to solve the problem of power on the farm.
00:33:03And so did Napoleon.
00:33:17In January, there came bitterly hard weather.
00:33:33Inexperienced management brought shortages to Animal Farm.
00:33:37But Snowball continued his thinking for the future.
00:33:42And in such thoughts, he was not alone.
00:34:09I have prepared a new plan for Animal Farm.
00:34:15Here it is.
00:34:18All it needs is your vote.
00:34:24At first, we will have to work more and eat less.
00:34:30But my plan will bring us electricity.
00:34:38It will mean a warm barn in winter.
00:34:43A light in every stall.
00:34:46Sky at roost.
00:34:48Luxury for all.
00:34:55In one short year, Animal Farm will be the finest in the world.
00:35:05Dreams, dreams.
00:35:09A vote for my plan is a vote for the life of your people.
00:35:14It's a lie.
00:35:17I promise you a four-day week.
00:35:20What?
00:35:22Perhaps a three-day week.
00:35:24Nonsense.
00:35:27A one-day week.
00:36:23Stop!
00:36:40With Snowball disposed of, Napoleon stepped up confidently to take charge of Animal Farm.
00:36:46And Fat Pink Squealer became his obedient follower and assistant.
00:36:57Comrades, Snowball is a traitor.
00:37:04What was he really planning?
00:37:09To bring back Jones.
00:37:14Now, let's have no more of these useless meetings.
00:37:19Eh?
00:37:22From now on, I'll protect your interests.
00:37:28And I'll make your decisions.
00:37:37Let me show you my plan for Animal Farm.
00:37:45I am home!
00:37:47Come and play!
00:37:50It's great!
00:37:53For Napoleon!
00:37:55And so the windmill was started after all.
00:38:00No!
00:38:12Nothing could have been achieved without Boxer,
00:38:15whose strength was greater than that of all the other animals put together.
00:38:59Superintended by the pigs, all the animals worked long shifts which lasted from dawn till dusk.
00:39:30Rations were shortened for the workers,
00:39:34but the pigs, by virtue of their brain work, were plentifully provided for.
00:39:40But the greatest inspiration came from Boxer,
00:39:44who with his friend Benjamin worked early and late, in season and out.
00:40:29The End
00:41:00The End
00:41:14One evening, after working long and late, as usual,
00:41:18Boxer and Benjamin made a curious discovery.
00:41:30The End
00:41:52Word of what now went on at night in Jones's house spread quickly through Animal Farm.
00:41:57Some of the animals thought they remembered a law against beds,
00:42:01but obviously they were mistaken.
00:42:28And now, other changes in the laws of Animal Farm were in store.
00:42:42Those ungrateful beasts of yours?
00:42:45Cheer up, they won't last.
00:42:49Another winter will bring them to their knees.
00:42:52Anyway, where are they going to buy the things they need?
00:42:56In Mr. Jones's circle, the subject of shortages at Animal Farm was a popular one,
00:43:02and a shop trader named Wimper was just the sort to do something about it.
00:43:25The End
00:43:56The End
00:44:15Comrades, our leader, as wise as he's beloved, has decided to trade with the outside world.
00:44:22Not for gain, of course, that would be unworthy of our noble principles.
00:44:27You, hens, are to have the honor of making the first contribution, all your eggs.
00:44:35I know how proud you are of this great village.
00:44:52The chickens seem to remember old Major saying that their eggs should never be taken from them.
00:45:22The End
00:45:52The End
00:46:22The End
00:46:52The End
00:47:22The End
00:47:35The innocent suffered with the guilty, and the chickens' uprising was short-lived.
00:47:41The End
00:47:48Comrades, I have made a terrible discovery.
00:47:55There are traitors among us.
00:48:02Yes, comrades, in league with Jones and Snowball.
00:48:12To destroy Animal Farm.
00:48:22Who else is guilty? Stand up and confess!
00:48:41The End
00:49:11The End
00:49:41The End
00:49:59The revolution is now complete. We have no more use for that song.
00:50:05Singing it is now forbidden, under penalty of death.
00:50:17Trade between Animal Farm and the outer world now became quite brisk.
00:50:35The End
00:50:42As might be expected, Mr. Wimper's profits inspired others to seek their share, or at least give vent to their jealousy.
00:50:51Animal Farm seems to be making money.
00:50:55For Wimper.
00:51:05The End
00:51:11Who ever heard of animals running a farm?
00:51:15Have you seen a windmill?
00:51:19Come on, let's kick him out!
00:51:21Yes, kick him out!
00:51:25The End
00:51:28The original owner was not invited to join this movement. His neighbors let him know his day was done.
00:51:55The End
00:52:02Comrades, the enemy has mobilized all his forces against us.
00:52:06We must save Animal Farm from the hateful enemy at all costs.
00:52:25The End
00:52:28Now is the time to fight, to die for Animal Farm!
00:52:32Yes, yes!
00:52:33Let us show them all that Animal Farm is strong!

00:56:30The End
00:57:18Now began the heart-breaking job of rebuilding, and as before, Boxer and Benjamin worked hardest
00:57:27of all.
00:57:29By now, supervision of the work by pigs was hardly necessary, so they had time for less
00:57:35laborious pursuits.
00:58:05Long after the other animals left the job, Boxer and Benjamin worked on and on, giving
00:58:16their all, year in, year out.
00:58:42A new generation of pigs grew up, endowed with what were considered arts and graces
00:58:47very flattering to animal farm and its presiding genius.
00:59:06But still the windmill was not finished, and Boxer's injured foot got worse instead
01:00:42It looked as though Boxer were dead, but he wasn't, not quite.
01:00:53Boxer's hurt bad, he'll never work again, what do we do?
01:01:02While Napoleon and Squealer made plans for Boxer, Benjamin predicted he could look forward
01:01:07to a well-earned rest and retirement.
01:01:21Next day, the windmill work went on as usual, but now without Boxer.
01:01:30And during the morning, what appeared to be an ambulance arrived.
01:01:34One day, Benjamin suspected it wasn't an ambulance.
01:02:04The other animals finally recognized the death wagon from Mr. Wimper's glue factory.
01:03:05I was with him right from the start.
01:03:34I was with him right to the end.
01:03:37His last words were, forward comrades!
01:03:41Long live Napoleon!
01:03:50As for the wicked rumor that Boxer was sold to a glue factory, our beloved leader would
01:03:55never do that.
01:03:57Long live Napoleon!
01:04:02Long live Napoleon!
01:04:06And that night, the pigs drank to Boxer's memory, in the whiskey they had bought, with
01:04:35boxer's life. Years passed. The seasons came and went. The short animal lives fled by.
01:04:46The completed windmill stood as a monument to its builder's faith and sacrifice. But
01:04:54the animal's revolution was only dimly remembered. Outwardly, animal farm appeared prosperous.
01:05:02But the animals themselves were no better off, with the exception of the pigs and their
01:05:07supreme leader, Napoleon.
01:05:27This pig-run enterprise now had many of the frills of real civilization. And one fine
01:05:33day, pig delegates from far and wide arrived at animal farm to celebrate the coming of
01:05:39a new era.
01:06:39When reports of this great change reached them, other animals everywhere were incredulous.
01:07:07Dismayed and indignant, they headed toward animal farm from all directions, instinctively
01:07:14uniting once again in common cause.
01:07:16Loyal followers. On farms owned and operated by pigs,
01:07:46there is order and discipline. Our lower animals do more work and eat less than on other farms.
01:08:00This will encourage you to make your lower animals work even harder and eat even less.
01:08:11Little greater animal farm. Two piece and plenty under pig rule.
01:08:41Into the day when pigs own and operate farms everywhere.
01:09:01To the animals, it now seemed that their world, which may or may not someday become a happy
01:09:07place to live in, was worse than ever for ordinary creatures.
01:09:11And another moment had come when they must do something about it.
