00:00:00of the fight.
00:00:01Carl Frosch is 25 and 0 and always finds a way to win.
00:00:08That was never more dramatically evident than when he crossed the pond in April and defended
00:00:13the WBC super middleweight title against Jermaine Taylor.
00:00:16Frosch was outboxed for most of the fight and trailed on points going into the last
00:00:21round then.
00:00:22In an incredible rally, he stopped Taylor with 14 seconds remaining in the fight.
00:00:28Tonight, he'll be fueled by his hometown fans who expect Frosch to once again find
00:00:34a way to win however long that takes.
00:00:40Andre Durell has been waiting for this moment almost his entire life.
00:00:44His grandfather first took him to a gym at age 10 and his outstanding amateur career
00:00:49was punctuated by a bronze medal at the 2004 Olympics.
00:00:53Durell does not dispute the fact that he's not as accomplished as the other fighters
00:00:58in the super six, but his size, speed, and switch hitting style make him a threat to
00:01:03Carl Frosch and the rest of the fighters in the tournament as well.
00:01:08Durell has serious, and I mean serious star potential and tonight just might be the night
00:01:14he demonstrates that skill and emerges as a star.
00:01:22The opening bout of the super six world boxing classic is in the books.
00:01:26Arthur Abraham wins three points by knocking out Jermaine Taylor.
00:01:31Now we are just about ready for the second half of tonight's double header as Carl Frosch
00:01:36fights Andre Durell.
00:01:38Carl Frosch is unbeaten in 25 professional fights and Andre Durell has an unblemished
00:01:44record and is in his 18 pro fights.
00:01:48Two fighters who have never tasted defeat.
00:01:51Tonight, somebody's O has to go.
00:02:04They can say we haven't fought anybody.
00:02:06Come on baby, it's fight time, it's fight time.
00:02:08You know they can say that we haven't been tested yet.
00:02:11They could have easily picked somebody else, but I know I belong here and I will prove
00:02:18a lot of people wrong.
00:02:20This is right after the knockdown.
00:02:22Right now Jermaine Taylor is showing too much respect.
00:02:24He's losing too much respect.
00:02:26I focus on my objective.
00:02:28My objective is Frosch and I have to study him in every aspect of the sport.
00:02:32He wasn't turning into a European street fighter.
00:02:35No stance, it's gone.
00:02:37It's gone.
00:02:38I'm not underestimating him by no means, but I believe this is where my talent will show
00:02:43the most.
00:02:45Granddaddy.
00:02:46Hey daddy, the people want to know what you think Andre need to do to whoop Karl Frosch.
00:02:51All he gotta do is what I taught him.
00:02:53Ha ha!
00:02:54Yeah.
00:02:55Too bad we all can't fight him all in one night.
00:02:58Ha ha ha.
00:03:00You know?
00:03:01The fight is in his hometown.
00:03:04He has a lot to prove and he doesn't want to lose to a guy of my stature.
00:03:09I get in there, I whoop him, I take his belt.
00:03:13No excuses.
00:03:16It was just my time.
00:03:24I thrive under pressure.
00:03:27A lot of people fall under pressure.
00:03:28But I love when that adrenaline is released from the spinal cord.
00:03:31The fluid goes into your blood, it gives you that pump and that lift and your hair stand
00:03:34up.
00:03:35I feel indestructible.
00:03:36I just want to do some damage and I enjoy it.
00:03:43Fighting Jermaine Taylor.
00:03:44That was the first time I've ever been knocked down in my professional career.
00:03:47I kept cool, I kept calm.
00:03:49I got up, round 12, I did what I had to do.
00:03:52I didn't leave it to the judges.
00:03:53I showed everybody what I'm made of.
00:03:57Just don't take too long this time, Karl.
00:03:58Just get it over with, will you?
00:04:00Don't leave it till the last 14 seconds.
00:04:02My heart, my heart can't take it.
00:04:06I'm certainly not worried about Andre Durrell.
00:04:08I've seen his record, there's no names on there.
00:04:10He's said a few things that are a little bit disrespectful to a world champion about
00:04:14what he's going to do and what I haven't got.
00:04:16I've had it all before.
00:04:17I'm too slow and I don't punch hard and I'm not experienced or I've got no defense.
00:04:2225 fights, 25 wins.
00:04:25They all end up the same way.
00:04:27I'm usually flattened on the canvas.
00:04:29All I can do is wish him luck.
00:04:34Al, in tonight's battle of undefeated fighters, what do you think the pivotal factors are?
00:04:40Crowd, the difference in age, experience, speed versus experience.
00:04:45What do you think?
00:04:46You know, so much of the charm of this tournament is the unknown.
00:04:50So it's appropriate that tonight, I think this fight hinges on what we don't know.
00:04:54Now, Karl Frosch is a proven commodity.
00:04:56So it's Andre Durrell that provides us with the mystery.
00:04:59A lot of firsts for him tonight.
00:05:01First time fighting a world-class opponent.
00:05:03First time fighting in this kind of a hostile environment.
00:05:06And he may be forced to go 12 rounds.
00:05:09That would be the first time he's ever done that.
00:05:11And in addition, you know, he has never really fought the exact kind of fight
00:05:16that he needs to fight tonight to beat Karl Frosch, except maybe against Curtis Stevens.
00:05:21So really, there are a lot of challenges facing him tonight.
00:05:24No question about it, Antonio.
00:05:25Much of the talk leading up to tonight's fight
00:05:28has focused on the unique nature of this tournament.
00:05:31How do these fighters put aside all of that
00:05:33and concentrate on getting in the ring and banging?
00:05:37Well, you know what?
00:05:37With the super six, the stakes are high.
00:05:39It's going to be very difficult.
00:05:41But with Karl Frosch, he's defending his WBC super middleweight championship.
00:05:45And everyone's here to see him win.
00:05:47So he has an enormous amount of pressure on him.
00:05:49How does he kill Andre Durrell's dream of becoming a world champion tonight?
00:05:54That remains to be seen.
00:05:56All right.
00:05:57With that in mind, it is time for the second part of our co-feature,
00:06:01our main event coming to you from Nottingham, England.
00:06:05Andre Durrell, the young man from Flint, Michigan,
00:06:08versus Karl Frosch, the WBC champion.
00:06:13He is the world title holder.
00:06:15And now let's go inside the ring at Jimmy Lennon Jr.
00:06:23Ladies and gentlemen,
00:06:26the time has come for the super six world boxing classic.
00:06:31Please welcome the boxers as they make their way to the ring.
00:06:36First, joining us to the blue corner,
00:06:39the undefeated challenger from the United States,
00:06:44The Matrix, Andre Durrell.
00:06:57Andre Durrell, the young challenger, born and raised in Flint.
00:07:01This former Olympic bronze medalist was abandoned by his father at an early age,
00:07:06taken in by his grandfather when he and his brother
00:07:10became too much to handle for a young mom.
00:07:13This man has been given a rare gift, folks.
00:07:16He possesses unbelievable speed and quickness.
00:07:19His nickname is The Matrix.
00:07:21And like a young neo, he has yet to tap in to his true potential.
00:07:27But he is starting to believe.
00:07:30Tonight, we find out if he can truly be the one.
00:07:48If body language means anything and an incandescent smile does,
00:07:53Andre Durrell apparently not affected by this scene.
00:07:57But sometimes you can't tell by what's on the outside.
00:08:00Most definitely.
00:08:01I mean, tonight he's going in deep waters.
00:08:04I'm anxious to see, can he swim with the big boys tonight?
00:08:12Andre Durrell steps into the ring for the biggest challenge of his career.
00:08:18Now let's go back inside the ring to Jimmy Lennon Jr.
00:08:48Joining us to the red corner, the undefeated world champion from England,
00:08:56Carl, The Cobra Crotch!
00:09:12The champion, born and raised right here in Nottingham.
00:09:18Carl Crotch is the pride of Sherwood Forest.
00:09:21A true warrior, a modern-day Robin Hood.
00:09:28At 32, Crotch lusts for international recognition, especially in the United States.
00:09:36He feels that this is the beginning of his era
00:09:39and knows that winning the Super 6 World Boxing Classic
00:09:44will not only catapult him to the superstardom,
00:09:46but like his coach, even Robin of Locksley, make him legendary.
00:10:44Carl Crotch!
00:11:14Andre Durrell for the WBC world title here at the Super 6 World Boxing Classic,
00:11:22the super middleweight.
00:11:24Let's check out the tale of the day.
00:11:27There is very little to choose from except for the age of these two men.
00:11:32Height and reach very similar.
00:11:34And the fact is, both men will want the fight from the outside in any case.
00:11:39It's going to come down to not numbers, but intangibles.
00:11:44So here at the Trent FM Arena in Nottingham, this place rocking.
00:11:55We're ready for Carl Crotch and Andre Durrell.
00:11:58Let's get the official introduction from our ring announcer, Jimmy Lennon Jr.

00:13:10he'll be giving instructions after the introductions from Panama, Hector Afu.
00:13:17All right, fans, here we go with our main event of the evening.

00:13:36And now, ladies and gentlemen in attendance and boxing fans joining us around the world,
00:13:44live from Nottingham, England, it's showtime!
00:13:58Introducing to you first, the challenger on my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
00:14:04Wearing green gloves with gold trim, hailing from Flint, Michigan in the United States.
00:14:11He weighed in at 11 stone, 13.5 pounds or 167.5 US pounds.
00:14:19A 2004 Olympic bronze medalist, he is undefeated in his professional campaign
00:14:25with a record of 18 wins, no losses, 13 wins coming by way of knockout.
00:14:32Ladies and gentlemen, please welcome the challenger
00:14:35and one of boxing's gifted young stars, the undefeated WBC number two ranked contender.
00:14:44Introducing the Matrix, Andre Durano!
00:14:56And his opponent across the ring, the defending world champion on my left,
00:15:02fighting out of the red-headed corner.
00:15:04Wearing black trunks, he weighed in the same as his opponent, 11 stone, 13.5 pounds or 167.5 US pounds.
00:15:15His unblemished record stands at 25 wins, no losses, 20 wins coming by way of knockout.
00:15:23Ladies and gentlemen, please welcome one of the great stars of the division,
00:15:28tonight making the second defense of his title.
00:15:31Here he is, boxing's pride of Nottingham, England,
00:15:35the undefeated WBC super heavyweight champion of the world.
00:15:41Introducing the El Coro, the Cobra Brawler!
00:15:49Once again, a referee in charge, now to give instructions, Hector Afur.
00:16:03I got them the fusion in the dressing room, I won the clean fight, touch glove.
00:16:20Good luck.
00:16:24All right, the questions.
00:16:26We start with Andre Durell.
00:16:28Can he keep his composure fighting on the big stage?
00:16:31Can he execute in this hostile environment?
00:16:34But the biggest question is, how will he react if he gets hurt?
00:16:40And for the champion, Karl Kraj.
00:16:43Can he handle the speed and accurate punching of a sharpshooter like Durell?
00:16:48And can he take away Durell's confidence
00:16:51by keeping the pressure on him and making Durell uncomfortable?
00:17:05And we begin.
00:17:13This fight, we should mention, is being contested in a 20 by 20 ring.
00:17:17All of the super six fights will be contested in the same size ring.
00:17:21And of course, for Durell, size of ring is important
00:17:24because he presumably wants to move and use all of this ring.
00:17:28Karl Kraj keeping that left hand low.
00:17:30Durell also.
00:17:33Durell, a sharp, lightning-quick puncher with Roy Jones-type speed.
00:17:40But he finishes off low quite often,
00:17:42and sometimes he'll even pull straight back with his chin up.
00:17:47And at this level, it could really cost him.
00:17:50We note that Durell starts out as a right-hander.
00:17:53Of course, he likes to switch back and forth a lot.
00:17:57But right now, he starts to fight as a righty.
00:17:59And Fratch told us he thought that was the weakest side of Durell
00:18:02and that he could pick him apart as a righty.
00:18:06Durell telling us that he will fight right-handed most of this fight,
00:18:11as you mentioned, Al.
00:18:17The Fratch jab has not been seen yet.
00:18:20There it is.
00:18:24Karl Fratch telling us that he wants to take Durell into deep water.
00:18:28He thinks that jet lag will set in around 5 or 6,
00:18:32and that's when he can really go to work.
00:18:37Fratch missing with the left hook.
00:18:40He also told us he wants to keep that right hand right under his chin
00:18:45to block and smother the Durell jab.
00:18:50Durell is talking to Karl Fratch.
00:18:54That's interesting ploy, Antonio, for a young fighter in this atmosphere.
00:18:58That just lets you know his confidence.
00:19:00You know, he's really confident that he's here to take care of business tonight.
00:19:04What's obvious to me is the just difference in hand speed.
00:19:07You can tell it's night and day.
00:19:14Both fighters taking their time.
00:19:23Early on, Durell very relaxed.
00:19:26Now he switches over to Southpaw.
00:19:33Fratch very familiar fighting Southpaws.
00:19:35He beats off Pascal to take the title.
00:19:39Pascal, a Canadian, now the light heavyweight champion.
00:19:47We saw the counterpunching of Durell a moment ago,
00:19:50and he did touch Fratch on the way in.
00:19:53He's gonna have to do that on a regular basis during the course of this fight.
00:20:00There's that stiff jab.
00:20:02Really quick.
00:20:03Durell has been doing a much better job sitting down on his punches
00:20:06his last couple of fights.
00:20:09And that's the end of the first one.
00:20:14The keys to this fight, very interesting for both men.
00:20:18For Carl Fratch, he's got to double the jab.
00:20:20This is a sequence he should continue throughout the fight.
00:20:23First, double the jab, which pushes Durell to the ropes,
00:20:28where he tends to gravitate anyway,
00:20:30and then Fratch can land the right hand.
00:20:33This could be a fight changer for him.
00:20:35For Andre Durell, he can't switch constantly from righty to lefty.
00:20:39He has to do it with a purpose, as he did in round one.
00:20:42He cannot be on the ropes.
00:20:43He's got to keep this fight in the center of the ring.
00:20:45He did that effectively in round one.
00:20:47He's got to throw combinations,
00:20:48but then get out, not stay there, and brawl with Fratch.
00:20:58Trent FM Arena in Nottingham, England.
00:21:01Two and a half hours north of London.
00:21:06And the winner is...
00:21:08Carl Fratch!
00:21:10Carl Fratch, the champion,
00:21:13versus Andre Durell, the challenger.
00:21:17Durell, 25 years old, Fratch, 32.
00:21:22Carl Fratch in the black trunks, Durell in the green.
00:21:28Fratch comes into this fight
00:21:31to Jermaine Taylor to knock him out
00:21:34in the 12th round in his WBC super middleweight
00:21:39title defense, the first defense,
00:21:42back on April 25th in Connecticut.
00:21:46Fratch, there's the Fratch jab.
00:21:47He said this is his first few rounds.
00:21:49As we pointed out, we're going to be more tactical.
00:21:51But he said he does not want to get himself in a big hole
00:21:54and be digging out from a hole in round 6 and 7.
00:21:58But when he does use the jab,
00:22:00he does push Durell back,
00:22:01and that's an important weapon for him.
00:22:03And the battle of the jabs not very even, really.
00:22:06Yes, they are.
00:22:07I saw in the first round where Fratch had more success
00:22:11when Durell switched to Southpaw.
00:22:13So we'll keep an eye on that and see how he does.
00:22:17Andre Durell, Southpaw now,
00:22:22forcing Carl Fratch to leave.
00:22:25Taking his time.
00:22:27He wants to stay off the ropes
00:22:29and fight this fight right in the middle of the ring.
00:22:33Now, Fratch is undefeated against left-handers.
00:22:36He's 3-0 and does not feel that's an issue for him.
00:22:39We'll see.
00:22:48Durell keeping very good distance.
00:22:50Double left hook connects.
00:22:53Good countering by Andre Durell.
00:22:55That is so uncharacteristic of Fratch
00:22:56to lead off with a wild left hook.
00:22:59Although that's a punch you can normally hit Durell with,
00:23:01that was oddly thrown for Fratch.
00:23:04Fratch with the right hand to the body.
00:23:08Two very patient fighters.
00:23:13Durell looks very composed, Antonio,
00:23:16to be on such a grand stage.
00:23:18Yes, he does, but, you know,
00:23:19the fight hadn't got started yet.
00:23:20Both the fighters are still trying to fill each other out
00:23:23before they settle in, and we'll see more action.
00:23:26You know, it's ironic.
00:23:27We talked about the idea of Durell
00:23:30squaring himself up to Fratch.
00:23:32It's been Fratch who has actually ended up
00:23:34making himself a more available target
00:23:36at certain points to Durell
00:23:37when he misses with those wild punches.
00:23:39Fratch having a problem getting close.
00:23:41He's trying to get in punching range.
00:23:43Double left jab landing for Durell.
00:23:47He's got feline quickness.
00:23:57Okay.
00:24:03Round two, scheduled for 12.
00:24:07Time!
00:24:09Time!
00:24:15I got it. I got it. I got it.
00:24:17We talked about the fact that Carl Fratch is missing
00:24:20and putting himself at risk to counterpunching
00:24:22by Andre Durell, and here's a perfect example.
00:24:24Leading off with that left hook,
00:24:26being countered.
00:24:27In boxing, it's an old saying.
00:24:29When you make your opponent miss,
00:24:30you got to make him pay,
00:24:31and those hooks did make him pay.
00:24:37Let's listen in to the corner of Andre Durell.
00:24:41His grandfather, Leon Lawson, is his trainer.
00:24:43This is it, man.
00:24:45I know that I got it right there.
00:24:47How you think? Are you looking good?
00:24:48Great. Just warming up punches there.
00:24:50Don't get over-aggressive.
00:24:51Don't let him screw it around.
00:24:52Take it as it comes.
00:24:54Deep breath. Deep breath.
00:24:55Deep breath. Deep breath.
00:24:56Breathe your thing.
00:24:57Yeah.
00:24:58Coldest 10 seconds.
00:25:01Andre Durell, a 3-to-1 underdog,
00:25:03and from what I understand,
00:25:04there are a lot of businessmen in Flint, Michigan,
00:25:08putting a lot of money on this young man.
00:25:21Hector Afu is your referee of Panama.
00:25:25That was Karl Fracht saying,
00:25:26welcome to England, to Andre Durell.
00:25:29Andre Durell with a lot of conversation,
00:25:32as you mentioned, Al, for Karl Fracht.
00:25:34He switches to southpaw.
00:25:36What do you think he may be saying, Antonio?
00:25:38I have no idea.
00:25:39I mean, I think he's fighting very good
00:25:42from a conventional stance,
00:25:43and haven't seen much from the southpaw stance,
00:25:46but we'll see. Maybe he has a plan.
00:25:49Well, the one thing he's doing with the switching
00:25:50is he's not doing it in such a way
00:25:52that he gets caught in between,
00:25:53and that was the danger for Durell.
00:25:55There's the Fracht jab,
00:25:57and that's so important to him early in this fight.
00:26:00Now Durell's getting closer and closer to those ropes,
00:26:03which is where he gravitates to,
00:26:04but Fracht not yet taking advantage of it.
00:26:07Durell looking to counter.
00:26:08Fracht cutting off the ring now.
00:26:11Getting closer and closer.
00:26:17Straight left of the body for Durell.
00:26:20Durell is a combination puncher.
00:26:23And he's very effective and dangerous
00:26:26when he uses his combinations,
00:26:28but when he relies on just a one-two or a pot shot,
00:26:33he gives his opponent an opportunity.
00:26:37Let's see if he lets his hands go.
00:26:38In this fight, I think Durell is wary
00:26:40of trying to throw all those combinations
00:26:42because it leaves him open for big shots from Karl Fracht.
00:26:45Maybe later, but not early in this fight.
00:26:50So far, what Andre Durell has done very well
00:26:53is counterpunching.
00:26:54He has done it fairly well.
00:26:55He has, and in this round,
00:26:56it seems as if he's coming out
00:26:58trying to put a little hurt on Fracht in this round.
00:27:05And a reminder that Karl Fracht
00:27:07has often been in this position
00:27:08where early rounds,
00:27:09much like we saw with Arthur Abraham
00:27:11in his fight with Jermaine Taylor,
00:27:13where there are rounds that don't go his way,
00:27:16it's not a sprint for Karl Fracht,
00:27:18it's a marathon.
00:27:22Great counterpunching.
00:27:28And a smile comes across the face of the champion.
00:27:34Andre Durell has been known to run in fights.
00:27:37He did it versus Curtis Stevens in 2007,
00:27:41actually embarrassed himself.
00:27:42Stevens, a big puncher,
00:27:44and Durell running for most of that fight.
00:27:47He has settled down since then.
00:27:50Now, you know, Durell landed a great counterpuncher moment
00:27:53a couple of rounds ago,
00:27:54and then Fracht landed a right hand,
00:27:55and Durell did the right thing.
00:27:57He motored away from there.
00:27:58Now, Durell getting out of the corner.
00:28:01Fracht pins him now.
00:28:04This is going to be a cat and mouse game.
00:28:09Rachel Cordingley, the girlfriend of Karl Fracht.
00:28:20Come on, Karlie!
00:28:30Next to her, Karl's mom,
00:28:32who said to her son, of course,
00:28:34don't wait till the last second to win this one.
00:28:37His mother, Carol, in attendance.
00:28:40That's where the counterpunch came from, Durell,
00:28:42and then Fracht follows him around the ring
00:28:44and lands a right hand.
00:28:46That shows you two things,
00:28:47the great counterpunching of Durell
00:28:48but the determination of Fracht.
00:28:52Oh, that's a straight, perfect straight left hand,
00:28:55but like you said,
00:28:56Fracht was determined to get his back,
00:28:58and I think this fight now will be held
00:29:00in close quarters now.
00:29:04Wasn't pretty, what Karl Fracht did,
00:29:05but he got the punch in.
00:29:07Time-out!
00:29:14Round 4 scheduled for 12.
00:29:17Karl Fracht, the champion in black,
00:29:21Andre Durell, the challenger in the green trunks.
00:29:26Now, Karl Fracht spars with fighters
00:29:28from Brendan Ingle's stable here in England,
00:29:33who we just saw one of Brendan's fighters,
00:29:35Junior Witter, who switches all over the place,
00:29:38and they do.
00:29:38His fighters don't even know
00:29:40what they're supposed to be at any given moment.
00:29:41They're lefty, they're righty.
00:29:43He said that really prepares him for Andre Durell.
00:29:46He's still safe.
00:29:48Durell, sharp left hand.
00:29:50Now he's starting to sit down a little bit.
00:29:59We have not seen all-out pressure yet from Karl Fracht,
00:30:02and that's probably to Andre Durell's benefit.
00:30:04He's had a certain amount of breathing room
00:30:07to at least get his feet under him here.
00:30:09That's definitely.
00:30:09I mean, Durell camp felt confident
00:30:11coming into this fight that their speed,
00:30:13foot speed and hand speed
00:30:14made a big difference in this fight.
00:30:15They felt that if Jermaine Taylor
00:30:17could have as much success as he had against Fracht,
00:30:20why can't they?
00:30:21Ooh, beautiful combination by Durell.
00:30:25Two-punch combination.
00:30:27Now he's starting to go after Fracht a little bit.
00:30:30He's warmed up.
00:30:31He's still relaxed.
00:30:32Some blood coming out of the nose of Durell.
00:30:36Sticks Fracht with another short jab.
00:30:39And Fracht's also trying to go to the body there.
00:30:41That's important for him at this point in the fight.
00:30:45And look at the quickness of Durell
00:30:47as he steps off the line.
00:30:50Now some blood maybe coming out
00:30:53of the upper lip of Andre Durell.
00:30:58It's interesting.
00:30:59Even though he's doing fairly well in this fight,
00:31:01he's the guy that has the bloody nose and bloody mouth,
00:31:04but Fracht has gotten some shots in.
00:31:09Looking at this fight, this round here,
00:31:11I believe Fracht is telling himself
00:31:13he's gonna have to take some chances.
00:31:14He's gonna have to take some risks
00:31:16in order to solve the speed puzzle against Durell.
00:31:19You couldn't be more correct, Antonio.
00:31:20And this is the moment when he realizes it.
00:31:23And literally, he sees blood.
00:31:25And there's a right hand to the body.
00:31:27Fracht is going to the body,
00:31:28and that's important right now.
00:31:33Andre Durell, very seasoned.
00:31:36We told you about his bronze medal at the Olympics.
00:31:39He's fought in 236 amateur fights
00:31:42with a 214 and 22 record.
00:31:47You can feel this fight
00:31:49intentionally heating up as we move forward.
00:32:01Six seconds remaining in the fourth.
00:32:03These are very close rounds.
00:32:10The Flintstones are here.
00:32:12Andre Durell's family, his mom Lola,
00:32:15his brother Anthony, his fiancée Aaliyah.
00:32:34Andre Durell, we mentioned the countering
00:32:36he's been able to do.
00:32:37Fracht, when he misses,
00:32:39often puts himself in a position there.
00:32:41He misses with the jab,
00:32:42and Durell with the not one but two-punch combination.
00:32:46And you see it again, Antonio.
00:32:49Yeah, he's leaning out.
00:32:50He's reaching out there.
00:32:51Like I said, he has to take chances
00:32:53in order to solve that speed.
00:32:54And so he's saying, hey, cautious to the win.
00:32:56I gotta do whatever I have to do to get inside.
00:32:59And we should point out,
00:33:00if you've ever seen Carl Fracht fight,
00:33:02he has a granite chin.
00:33:03He was down against Taylor,
00:33:05but to knock him out is a difficult task,
00:33:07even to hurt him.
00:33:08Carl Fracht told us that Durell
00:33:11will start feeling tired after five or six rounds.
00:33:15Durell coming over only six days in advance.
00:33:17Fracht thought he should come over
00:33:19between 21 days and three weeks in advance.
00:33:22He called Durell cheeky, disrespectful
00:33:27for not coming over here and training properly.
00:33:29That may have been a slight overstatement.
00:33:31You know?
00:33:34Ooh, very nice right hand by Durell.
00:33:37You see the hand speed.
00:33:42We talked about the fact that Andre Durell
00:33:44hadn't yet in his career fought a fight
00:33:47in which he did what he's doing right now,
00:33:48and that is box, but not run,
00:33:51not engage in silly, you know, exchanges with people.
00:33:55Well, he is doing his best
00:33:57to fight exactly the right kind of fight.
00:33:59It's a very close fight right now,
00:34:00but he is doing the right thing.
00:34:02Yes, he is, and it seems as if he's growing up
00:34:04right before our eyes, you know?
00:34:05And I just commend him on his fighting style right now.
00:34:09If he can stay with this, he should do well tonight.
00:34:12But I have to say, Al, this is a fast fight.
00:34:14I mean, they're fighting with a lot of intensity,
00:34:16and can he withstand this through 12 rounds?
00:34:20Fracht hasn't yet put the kind of wild pressure on him
00:34:23that we might expect,
00:34:23but he has kept pushing him back and kept attacking.
00:34:27Another right hand by Durell.
00:34:29And Fracht throws him down.
00:34:35Is this MMA?
00:34:38A sumo game.
00:34:40You're gonna...
00:34:41You may mistake him for Fedor,
00:34:43who you're gonna see soon.
00:34:52So Karl Fracht with the hip throw.
00:34:54Andre Durell
00:34:55gets back on his feet and goes back to work.
00:35:00He's been the busier fighter.
00:35:02And can't you feel, sitting here at ringside,
00:35:04what we don't know yet is when Karl Fracht
00:35:07lands a major punch.
00:35:08We haven't seen him land something really strong yet,
00:35:11and that's gonna tell us the final piece of the puzzle
00:35:13about how Andre Durell will do tonight.
00:35:15Unless Fracht never does,
00:35:17in which case Andre Durell did a great job.
00:35:18It'll be a shutout, but that throwdown was,
00:35:21I believe, a frustration throw.
00:35:24He hadn't landed the punch he thought he could land,
00:35:26and he's boxed him in the middle of the ring.
00:35:28I mean, we all felt that that was Durell's advantage point.
00:35:34Durell fought Tony Hanchaw in May,
00:35:36got in trouble in the first round,
00:35:38almost got knocked down,
00:35:40but then came back to score a very impressive
00:35:44fifth round stoppage.
00:35:46Hanchaw's previous fight was with Roy Jones,
00:35:49a loss as well.
00:35:51And this time, Fracht decides not to drop Durell,
00:35:57but he does give him a parting shot.
00:35:58Yeah, Karl Fracht, that's the second time
00:36:00he's blatantly hit on the break,
00:36:01and you have to think perhaps
00:36:05there might be a possibility of a point deduction
00:36:07at some point soon.
00:36:09And Antonio,
00:36:13Durell keeps going with that straight left hand to the body.
00:36:16What could that potentially set up?
00:36:18Well, it's sort of a lot of things.
00:36:19It neutralizes your opponent, keeps him at a distance.
00:36:23And this is what they're fighting for,
00:36:26the Super 6 World Boxing Classic Cup.
00:36:31The super middleweight's 168 pounds.
00:36:33Finish your thought.
00:36:34Like I was saying, you know,
00:36:35great fighter Floyd Mayweather uses that punch.
00:36:39Hold on. Be quiet.
00:36:43Floyd Mayweather Jr. uses that punch excellently.
00:36:45He keeps an opponent at bay,
00:36:47and then he can set up anything,
00:36:49the right hand or the hook.
00:36:50So I think Durell is doing pretty much the same thing.
00:36:53An example of the wrestling activity
00:36:55we saw in the last round of frustration by Fracht
00:36:57or just an awkward moment.
00:37:03The Trent FM Arena in Nottingham,
00:37:06Karl Fracht, the WBC world title holder.
00:37:12This is his second defense.
00:37:14This is his second defense here
00:37:16at the Super 6 World Boxing Classic,
00:37:18the super middleweights.
00:37:21He defended it at first against Jermaine Taylor,
00:37:26and now in one of the biggest tournaments in the world,
00:37:32he'll do it against Durell.
00:37:36We talked about how well Andre Durell would do
00:37:38with all the nervous energy
00:37:39that he would have early in the fight.
00:37:42That hasn't been a big issue for him.
00:37:44As he shows his skill to slip punches as well,
00:37:49because he hasn't fought like he has nervous energy.
00:37:52No, he's fighting definitely with a lot of composure,
00:37:55a lot of energy, I might add.
00:37:58And he's trying.
00:37:59He's trying to really show the people
00:38:00that he deserves to be WBC champion.
00:38:06You know, we have to think about the possibility
00:38:08that Andre Durell has already made Karl Fracht
00:38:11respect his power,
00:38:12because Karl Fracht is not attacking
00:38:14with as much abandon.
00:38:16Aside headlock, I'll tell you what,
00:38:18your MMA experience is going to come in handy, Gus.
00:38:20I know.
00:38:23Fracht missing with a wild left hook.
00:38:26Fracht's technique is worse than normal.
00:38:28And I mean, he's not normally a pretty boxer.
00:38:31His technique is not great tonight,
00:38:33and he's throwing way too many wild left hooks.
00:38:36Well, his technique isn't great
00:38:37because he's never fought anybody as quick as Durell.
00:38:42Karl Fracht, he beat Jermaine Taylor,
00:38:44he beat Jean Pascal.
00:38:46Nice left hand by Durell.
00:38:51And now some dirty boxing by both fighters.
00:38:55And Hector, a fool,
00:38:56will have a conversation with both gentlemen.
00:39:00You sure you want to use the word gentlemen?
00:39:02Nice right hand by Fracht.
00:39:04It's heated up now, but for Andre Durell,
00:39:06this is a trick bag.
00:39:07You don't want it to heat up too much.
00:39:10No, you don't.
00:39:11I mean, he has to stay focused.
00:39:12I mean, all the little dirty, nasty things
00:39:14that Karl Fracht is doing, that's a veteran move.
00:39:17You know, we got Bernard Hopkins,
00:39:19he's perfected those type of moves.
00:39:21It's important that Durell stay focused on the job at hand,
00:39:24don't get outside himself.
00:39:25And Durell doesn't want too many of these wild exchanges either.
00:39:29No, he don't, because it gives Fracht
00:39:31opportunities to land that big punch.
00:39:34And Karl Fracht, conversely,
00:39:35wants it to get a little ugly in there
00:39:37and give himself some opportunities
00:39:39to land something big.
00:39:41Fracht's a very unorthodox fighter,
00:39:44not a typical British fighter.
00:39:46He keeps his hands down by his waist
00:39:48to throw that fluky left hook.
00:39:51But right now, Andre Durell isn't there.
00:39:54You know, the problem for Fracht is,
00:39:56he is not by nature a left hook artist.
00:39:58If there is one punch that you are more likely
00:40:00to land against Durell, it's the left hook.
00:40:03And you see Fracht watch that on the tape.
00:40:05He's trying to throw that punch, but it's not getting there.
00:40:11He's trying to throw that punch, but it's not getting there.
00:40:41And I was going to tell you,
00:40:50you don't need more than that to create a hook, man.
00:40:52I'm having a good time.
00:40:53Give me no trouble.
00:40:54Look at this.
00:40:54Move to your left with your glove here,
00:40:57and then double up your attack, OK?
00:40:59Do you understand me?
00:41:00One, two, up, then right and left hook, all right?
00:41:02One, two, up, right and left hook,
00:41:03and this head breathing in this glove here.
00:41:05Karl, you've got to be busy now with the balance, all right?
00:41:08All right, all right, all right, all right.
00:41:09He's being smart.
00:41:10Don't give him a counter shot.
00:41:13Don't give him a counter shot.
00:41:15Second round, round seven.
00:41:19Carl Fracht, 11 and 0,
00:41:22fighting in his hometown of Nottingham.
00:41:26Nice combination by Durell, and he'll hold on.
00:41:31Robert McCracken, the trainer of Karl Fracht,
00:41:34super middleweight contender himself,
00:41:39a very, very fine trainer.
00:41:43Yeah, the former British Commonwealth
00:41:45middleweight champion, actually,
00:41:47and he had a record of 33 and 2 during his career.
00:41:51Retired in 2001.
00:42:02Round seven scheduled for 12.
00:42:09Al, where do you have this fight halfway through?
00:42:11A lot of close rounds, so you can take your pick,
00:42:15but I've got a 58-56 for Durell at this point,
00:42:19but, again, a number of those rounds were close,
00:42:21so it's an intriguing fight to score, to be sure.
00:42:25Remember, though, Fracht gets stronger as the fight goes on.
00:42:30And we're in the period of the fight
00:42:32where he feels like he's supposed
00:42:33to start making something happen.
00:42:36The most troubling aspect of this fight for Karl Fracht
00:42:38is that he is pinning a lot of his hopes on the left hook,
00:42:41and it's not there for him.
00:42:43Not tonight, and I want to commend Durell
00:42:45on just his boxing ability tonight.
00:42:47Fracht has been unable to get set or planted
00:42:50in order to throw his power shots.
00:42:52Yeah, that's a very good point.
00:42:54And that's because he hasn't been able
00:42:56to put Durell against the ropes.
00:43:01Durell doing a lot of holding.
00:43:03Hector, a fool.
00:43:05And Durell mad because he thought
00:43:07Fracht hit him behind the head there.
00:43:09And the Fracht jab now disappearing,
00:43:11and that was a weapon he felt he needed very much.
00:43:14That straight left hand to the body,
00:43:16and he chops up top.
00:43:17Andre Durell holds on, takes a ride.
00:43:21A minute left in the round.
00:43:31Karl Fracht trying to make Durell fight.
00:43:33Hector, a fool, telling him to stop holding.
00:43:36Durell has been doing a lot of holding
00:43:39and refuses to fight inside.
00:43:44Karl Fracht is turning this into a brawl or trying to.
00:43:47He's doing his best to make it a brawl.
00:43:49He's doing his best to make it that.
00:43:52Now, there's the stuff Andre Durell can't do.
00:43:54Jump in head first against Fracht.
00:43:57And that's Fracht's best chance
00:43:59of turning this fight around,
00:44:01making it a dogfight, making it sloppy.
00:44:03Now Fracht's holding and hitting.
00:44:04Durell complaining, but getting hit.
00:44:07Bad move.
00:44:13Oh, beautiful left hook by Durell,
00:44:15right on the button.
00:44:17Fracht tried to throw an uppercut from too far up.
00:44:19Durell countered him.
00:44:20It's getting to be fun here.
00:44:24Durell and Antonio can stand there and fight Fracht,
00:44:29told Antonio he's got that kind of quickness and skill.
00:44:31But I wouldn't advise him to do that.
00:44:33I think with Fracht being a devastating puncher,
00:44:36Fracht being a devastating puncher,
00:44:38anything can happen.
00:44:39He still has a puncher's chance.
00:44:40You think he's tired?
00:44:42No, in fact, I think Durell's breathing a little hard
00:44:44right now in the corner.
00:44:45I mean...
00:44:48Now, there was a lot going on,
00:44:50many plots and subplots in the last round,
00:44:53most of them not quite within the rules.
00:44:55Here's where Fracht was held by Durell,
00:44:59and he's banging Durell on the side of the head.
00:45:00So we had two different rule violations
00:45:02going on at that point.
00:45:05And later on, a lot more stuff going on, Antonio.
00:45:10The only thing I saw wrong there
00:45:11was he held him behind the head as he punched him.
00:45:14But other than that, that was fair game.
00:45:16He's spoken like a warrior.
00:45:20Right hand by Fracht.
00:45:21He lands a couple on the inside.
00:45:25And Durell counters him.
00:45:27Well, he didn't get a chance to counter him there,
00:45:28but Fracht did well on the inside.
00:45:30So that was an intriguing round.
00:45:36Round eight scheduled for 12.
00:45:38Karl Fracht, the champion in the black trunks.
00:45:41Andre Durell, the challenger in green.
00:45:45And we are now at the point in this fight
00:45:50where, and I still think it's a very close fight.
00:45:52I actually gave the last round to Fracht.
00:45:54I think it's only a one-point fight.
00:45:55But this is the point in the fight
00:45:57where Fracht is believing that Durell
00:46:00will, in fact, get a little fatigued,
00:46:01as Antonio pointed out.
00:46:04Well, he's hoping that he gets fatigued.
00:46:06Yeah, well, you can always hope.
00:46:08Beautiful left jab by Durell.
00:46:11Now he goes downstairs.
00:46:14And Durell has a very patient
00:46:20and poised fight so far by Andre Durell.
00:46:22And that was the thing that you didn't know
00:46:24whether he could do.
00:46:25So win, lose, or draw in his first tournament fight,
00:46:28what Durell has shown is that he can keep his poise
00:46:31and fight a certain style.
00:46:32And he's done that tonight.
00:46:34And Fracht hasn't made him change it.
00:46:37Now Fracht putting his hands up high.
00:46:40Durell slipping.
00:46:42Good thing Karl Fracht didn't hit him there.
00:46:44He could have gone for a head fight
00:46:46or had points taken away.
00:46:49Nice right-hand counter by Durell.
00:46:57Fracht is not going to the body nearly as much.
00:46:59Oh, there he did it, right on cue.
00:47:01Punching behind the head.
00:47:03I'll tell you, Karl Fracht is giving us a clinic here
00:47:05on some rough tactics.
00:47:09Both fighters have been flirting with point deductions.
00:47:14For holding and Fracht for hitting behind the head.
00:47:19And there he's holding and hitting again,
00:47:21but Durell using his head a little bit.
00:47:23So a lot going on.
00:47:27Fracht can't use his jab a lot now
00:47:29because he gets countered by Durell.
00:47:31Nice left hook, got through.
00:47:35Durell getting a little braver with those combinations.
00:47:38He got touched in the left hand
00:47:40by Fracht on the way out of there.
00:47:41Fracht cannot cut the ring off on Durell.
00:47:43He needed to do that.
00:47:44Oh, oh my.
00:47:51Did that punch change this fight?
00:47:53We'll see.
00:47:53Maybe it did.
00:47:56Fracht coming in with his head.
00:48:0414 seconds to go in the eighth round.
00:48:11André Durell, Karl Fracht, eight in the books.
00:48:32Maybe for the first time in this fight,
00:48:35André Durell felt the power of Fracht in that last round.
00:48:40It is a left hook.
00:48:41Finally, that punch got in for Karl Fracht.
00:48:44He closed the distance and there it is.
00:48:48Now, Fracht is a better puncher with the right hand than the hook,
00:48:51but there's no question.
00:48:52And that punch altered things a bit for that round.
00:48:56For Durell, the good news is it came toward the end of the round
00:48:59and he was able to slide through those remaining seconds.
00:49:03Let's see if that's a fight changer.
00:49:09The count is ten to second.
00:49:11Ten seconds gone.
00:49:24Round number nine, scheduled for 12.
00:49:27Karl Fracht in black, André Durell in the green.
00:49:32This is a title fight.
00:49:34Karl Fracht is the champion.
00:49:37The WBC world title holder.
00:49:41This stage one matchup here at the Super 6 World Boxing Classic.
00:49:45The super middleweight's 168 pounds.
00:49:49Our first fight of the evening,
00:49:52and our other co-feature, Arthur Abraham was electric
00:49:56as he knocks out Jermaine Taylor in the 12th round.
00:50:02Now the Fracht jab is getting home a little bit.
00:50:07But to Durell's credit, he continues to keep this fight
00:50:09in the center of the ring,
00:50:10but the jab of Fracht is making a difference.
00:50:13Fracht with very long arms.
00:50:15He's getting closer.
00:50:18There's a little swelling under Durell's right eye.
00:50:20There's a little knot there.
00:50:21I don't know if that'll be any significance
00:50:24as the fight go on.
00:50:26Good left hand.
00:50:28Ooh, very nice left hand by Durell.
00:50:40Right on the chin of Karl Fracht.
00:50:42Now he switches southpaw.
00:50:45He'll switch step by step.
00:50:47Steps around, and Fracht ties him up.
00:50:51Durell, very lackadaisical right there,
00:50:54leaving himself wide open.
00:50:55Fracht, though, not able to do it.
00:50:58Straight right hand, left hook by Durell,
00:51:00and he smiles because he caught Fracht coming in.
00:51:03Well, another left hand by Durell.
00:51:06I think he was smiling to try and tell Fracht
00:51:08that wasn't hurt, and we'll see.
00:51:11The exchange punch is dense.
00:51:13They both got hit.
00:51:14Durell pot shotting him now.
00:51:16Staying on his bicycle.
00:51:18Fracht pinning him on the ropes.
00:51:21Durell waiting, and a hold.
00:51:23It looks as if Durell is slowing down a little bit.
00:51:25He has to pick it up.
00:51:28He's not moving as well as he was early in the fight.
00:51:30And he's getting stuck on those ropes a little bit more.
00:51:33You can feel a subtle change in this fight.
00:51:35Whether it continues in these later rounds
00:51:37remains to be seen, but Fracht has got something going,
00:51:40and Durell better stop talking to the referee
00:51:41and start defending himself.
00:51:45Fracht once again warned for holding behind
00:51:48and hitting behind the head.
00:51:49And that's happened a lot, and you could make the case
00:51:51for a point being taken from Karl Fracht.
00:51:54Nice double jab, triple jab by Durell.
00:51:57Fracht, though, stalking him.
00:51:59He's got to make this thing ugly now.
00:52:04Now, Fracht will make the argument
00:52:05that Durell's putting his head in a position
00:52:07where he can't help but hit him behind the head,
00:52:09but whether that's the real argument remains to be seen.
00:52:12But you see Durell now getting caught on those ropes,
00:52:15counterpunching well, but he's in danger there.
00:52:18This has been a good round for Karl Fracht.
00:52:20You know, he can't lean back with his head
00:52:22straight up on the ropes right now.
00:52:25I actually think that was a good round for Andre Durell.
00:52:28Really?
00:52:28Yes, I do.
00:52:30He caught him numerous times.
00:52:36There's Durell's family.
00:52:38That's his girlfriend, Aaliyah, to the left.
00:52:48No more combinations, Andre.
00:52:50Look, look right there.
00:52:52What are you looking at?
00:52:52He's wet.
00:52:53Look at that.
00:52:54He's wet.
00:52:54Try not to hold him.
00:52:55Box him.
00:52:55And combinations, Andre.
00:52:57Keep the fighting in your face.
00:52:58Stay off the ropes.
00:52:59Yeah, stay off the ropes.
00:53:00Fight him.
00:53:01Use that jab.
00:53:02Straight crosses.
00:53:05Combinations together, Andre.
00:53:07Three rounds, you got to win them all.
00:53:08Yeah, put your punch together.
00:53:09You've got three rounds left.
00:53:10Okay, threes and fours.
00:53:12Put him there and move him.
00:53:13And then he'll walk up to you.
00:53:14Karl has taken seconds.
00:53:15Karl, just use your brain.
00:53:16Come on.
00:53:17Second time, round seven.
00:53:22All right, Al.
00:53:23Unofficially, how do you have this score?
00:53:25I have a deadly...
00:53:26Well, I've got a one-point margin for Durell at this point in the fight.
00:53:34This is the 10th round.
00:53:35Durell has only gone 10 rounds one time.
00:53:37He's never gone 12.
00:53:39And he went 10 rounds against Curtis Stevens on June 16, 2007.
00:53:43Won a decision.
00:53:45When we spoke with Durell and the fighters,
00:53:46I mean, this is the point, the 10th round,
00:53:48when you've gone through a hard fight
00:53:50and the champion is not willing to give,
00:53:52that you will be questioning yourself.
00:53:54Can you get there?
00:53:54Can you make it through?
00:53:55This is where he has to dig deep and show the world
00:53:58that he's championship material.
00:53:59He's been 10 rounds one time in his career, never 12.
00:54:05Durell pushing through on that last combination.
00:54:09Wild card.
00:54:10Durell pushing through on that last combination.
00:54:13Wild right hand by Karl Fratsch.
00:54:16Karl Fratsch has five stoppages from round 8 or later,
00:54:20and he's 3-0 in 12-round decisions,
00:54:23and he is, of course, the winner in the Taylor fight
00:54:27that went into the 12th round.
00:54:28But all those numbers mean nothing
00:54:30if Andre Durell can box as he did in portions of the early rounds.
00:54:35Under two minutes to go.
00:54:37Left hand connecting for Durell.
00:54:39Fratsch answers with a stick jab.
00:54:46Durell is staying a little bit too long in one spot.
00:54:50He has to continue to move and do the things
00:54:52that work for him so well early on in this fight.
00:55:01Body work by Fratsch, which he should really
00:55:03have been doing a lot earlier in this fight.
00:55:05That's probably one of the things
00:55:06he'll look back on and be annoyed with.
00:55:10What is this?
00:55:10Uh-oh.
00:55:11Oh, my.
00:55:12That's a throw being taken from Durell.
00:55:14Now, that is huge.
00:55:15I don't know if I'm on board with this,
00:55:18because with all the things that have gone on in this fight,
00:55:21I'm not sure at this juncture a referee
00:55:23needs to intersperse himself into this fight,
00:55:26especially given the fact that Fratsch himself
00:55:28has been guilty of many different infractions.
00:55:33That's a huge point to be deducted.
00:55:36Especially if this fight's as close as you say it is, Al.
00:55:39Right, and we don't know,
00:55:40but it seems like it's a fairly close fight.
00:55:46And what will that do to Andre Durell's psyche?
00:55:49We'll see right now.
00:55:50Durell getting out of the corner,
00:55:52but Durell has to take the title from the champions.
00:55:56The oh, big left hand by Durell.
00:56:00He's got to really dig down deep,
00:56:02as you mentioned, Antonio,
00:56:04and there's gonna come a point
00:56:05where he has to just stand there and fight.
00:56:07And he did it right there with two monstrous right hands,
00:56:11but he, oh, he's throwing wild left hooks, Andre Durell.
00:56:14He cannot leave himself open
00:56:15with a dangerous puncher like Fratsch.
00:56:17It just, you know, it's kind of productive.
00:56:21Still the movement is there for Durell,
00:56:23and that's a big plus for him,
00:56:25but this tricky round because of that point deduction.
00:56:28Nice left hand again.
00:56:30He hurt Fratsch.
00:56:31Fratsch is hurt.
00:56:32Durell, uppercut.
00:56:34Fratsch coming back, off balance.
00:56:37He really tagged him at the end of the round.
00:56:42Andre Durell.
00:56:48Put your legs out.
00:56:49Put your legs out.
00:56:50Put your legs out.
00:56:51Listen, put your legs out.
00:56:52Listen to me.
00:56:53I keep telling you, don't rush in, all right?
00:56:55Listen.
00:56:56You listen to me.
00:56:57Don't rush in.
00:56:58Do you understand what I'm saying to you?
00:57:00Come.
00:57:01You walk in and you don't rush in.
00:57:03You walk in and with your hands down,
00:57:04what he just said to you,
00:57:05put your chin down behind the jab.
00:57:07Behind the jab.
00:57:08Listen to me.
00:57:09Listen to me, son.
00:57:10Behind the jab now.
00:57:11You listen to me.
00:57:12Yeah.
00:57:13Your mind's clear, yeah?
00:57:13Yeah.
00:57:14Now, behind the jab, slip and slide to the front.
00:57:19Andre Durell, who was being pushed back at this point,
00:57:24and there was a lot of grappling
00:57:25and holding and punching on the inside.
00:57:28The big punch from Durell and punches
00:57:31that appeared to hurt Karl Fracht,
00:57:33the hand speed and issue.
00:57:35Well, you know, with that point being taken away,
00:57:37he knew he had to have a big finish
00:57:39to possibly make this a 9-9 round.
00:57:42Karl Fracht told us that he'll do anything to win.
00:57:45He felt like he's a warrior,
00:57:48and the most important thing was to go in there
00:57:50and take his opponent's scalp.
00:57:53And he did.
00:57:54He did.
00:57:55He did.
00:57:55He did.
00:57:56He did.
00:57:56He did.
00:57:57He did.
00:57:57He did.
00:57:58Andre Durell has never seen the 11th round before.
00:58:03So we'll see how he reacts.
00:58:05And kudos to Durell for one important thing.
00:58:09He has switched lefty to righty
00:58:11but stayed in that posture long enough
00:58:13so that he's not getting caught switching.
00:58:15And that, to me, is the most key strategy for him.
00:58:19There he switches again, though,
00:58:20and Fracht can't take advantage while he's doing it.
00:58:23Oh, look at the head movement.
00:58:25Wow!
00:58:26And he comes up with a left hand!
00:58:31Incredible speed and quickness.
00:58:34That was a telling sequence in this fight.
00:58:40Fracht, not as aggressive now.
00:58:44Looks to be slightly confused.
00:58:48How do I get to this quick guy?
00:58:50Durell keeps sticking his tongue out at him.
00:58:53Uppercut, left hand.
00:58:54Fracht hurt again.
00:58:55Fracht is in trouble.
00:58:57Now he'll hold on.
00:58:59You'd think by any chance
00:59:01that Durell was thinking about those three points.
00:59:04Well, he better be careful if he is,
00:59:06but he is certainly show...
00:59:07Oh, big hook by Fracht.
00:59:09That's the kind of punch that could turn it around again
00:59:11and did it.
00:59:12We'll see.
00:59:15Stylistically, this is wrong for Durell,
00:59:18but it's creating a lot of excitement
00:59:20and he may well be winning this round,
00:59:21and probably is.
00:59:22It's just he's putting himself in danger.
00:59:24Carl Fracht wants to try and land something
00:59:26to change the dynamic of this fight.
00:59:36Good body work a moment ago there by Fracht.
00:59:38Again, coming probably too late in the fight.
00:59:42Durell and Fracht exchanging punches now.
00:59:47Durell is pulling out with his hands down.
00:59:50Look at him roll, slip.
00:59:52Old school fighting right here.
00:59:55Andre Durell, nice defense.
01:00:17Another left hand grazing the top of Fracht's head by Durell.
01:00:20Fracht just smiles and continues to move forward.
01:00:23You know, it's intriguing.
01:00:24Strategically, this round favored Fracht,
01:00:26but Durell won the round.
01:00:28And that's pretty amazing here in round 11.
01:00:31Yes, it is.
01:00:33Durell still punching.
01:00:35Unloading now at the end of the 11th.
01:00:38Oh, Durell's hands are low.
01:00:45One round remaining.
01:00:49Worry on the face.
01:00:51This was a telling moment in this fight.
01:00:54Durell making Fracht miss a lot.
01:00:57And then coming out of that with a vengeance
01:00:59with a big left hook that pushed Fracht back.
01:01:03And then standing there.
01:01:04He doesn't go anywhere.
01:01:07A moment of bravado for Andre Durell.
01:01:11He got the ball.
01:01:12Andre Durell.
01:01:13He got to get him out of there.
01:01:14He's got to get him out of there.
01:01:15He's got to get him out of there.
01:01:17He's got to get him out of there.
01:01:18He's got to get him out of there.
01:01:19He's got to get him out of there.
01:01:22He really ain't getting no defensive here.
01:01:26Don't let him get no lucky shit on him.
01:01:28Get his ass.
01:01:29Get his finger on his fist.
01:01:30Get a wild niggas next time I talk to you.
01:01:31Goals 10 to 7.
01:01:33You got to beat the girl or your mother's gonna kill her.
01:01:35Yes.
01:01:35Second round for the Choke of Los Angeles.
01:01:38King Johnny.
01:01:40The 12th and final round.
01:01:43Leon Lawson telling Andre Durell, his grandson,
01:01:46he won't get a decision here.
01:01:47You better go out and knock him out.
01:01:54Well, the young kid has arrived.
01:01:55Durell fought the 11th round
01:01:57like you're supposed to go out and fight championship rounds.
01:02:01Take my hat off to him.
01:02:02Interesting advice, given the fact that Durell,
01:02:07we assume that isn't the best way for him
01:02:10to fight against Franch,
01:02:11except when he had the last round of round 11
01:02:14that was a brawl, he ended up winning the round.
01:02:16Of course, the judges from Italy, Mexico, and Belgium,
01:02:19they are international, but we are in England.
01:02:23Durell, a new champion,
01:02:24and he's got a lot of experience.
01:02:26He's got a lot of experience.
01:02:27He's got a lot of experience.
01:02:28He's got a lot of experience.
01:02:29He's got a lot of experience.
01:02:30He's got a lot of experience.
01:02:31Durell, a new territory.
01:02:33The first time he's gone, 12.
01:02:37And the pace of Franch has slowed a bit as well
01:02:40right now in this round.
01:02:41He's not attacking with wild abandon.
01:02:54Uppercut landing by Durell.
01:02:56Franch steps back on the ropes
01:02:59and lands a right uppercut of his own.
01:03:00And that's the first time we've seen
01:03:02a good uppercut from Franch,
01:03:04and many of his knockouts in previous fights
01:03:06have been with that uppercut,
01:03:07not been able to land it against Durell.
01:03:09A minute and 30 remaining in the 12th and final round.
01:03:15A nervous tension in this crowd.
01:03:17The crowd never quite got into this fight
01:03:19because Franch didn't put together enough rallies.
01:03:22The WBC super middleweight title on the line.
01:03:25The champion, Karl Franch, here in Nottingham,
01:03:29in black, the challenger, Andre Durell in green.
01:03:35Durell, left hand!
01:03:37He leads in on Franch.
01:03:39Andre Durell fighting until the very end.
01:03:44Under a minute.
01:03:46Pivotal moment.
01:03:47Remember the point deduction in this fight.
01:03:50Will that be the difference?
01:03:52Durell has fought rounds 11 and 12 very well
01:03:55for a fighter who has never been to this territory.
01:03:59He said he was ready.
01:04:02Forget the jet lag question.
01:04:06Whether he got here seven days before
01:04:08or three weeks before,
01:04:09Andre Durell was ready to fight 12 rounds.
01:04:13This just never gave Franch an opportunity
01:04:16to truly land anything big.
01:04:18I mean, he's winging away, but nothing's landing.
01:04:21One big left hook and an occasional right hand,
01:04:23but that was about it.
01:04:2515 seconds remaining.
01:04:26Now, this round 12 is a pretty close round.
01:04:30Let's see who finishes off strong.
01:04:33Durell backpedaling.
01:04:35Durell.
01:04:37Franch closing in, unloading.
01:04:39Durell, and that's it.
01:04:41Durell, and that's it.
01:05:11Now, Franch will now leave it in the hands of the judges.
01:05:18Andre Durell has fought 12 rounds for the first time.
01:05:23Looks sharp, crisp, composed.
01:05:27Did do some moving in the ring,
01:05:29held, and was deducted a point.
01:05:34But he came on strong in the end.
01:05:41Carl Franch wanted to demonstrate
01:05:44to American audiences, especially,
01:05:47that he had a higher skill level
01:05:49than they were led to believe.
01:05:50He did not accomplish that tonight
01:05:52because it wasn't a skillful performance by him.
01:05:55It really wasn't.
01:05:56Not at all.
01:05:57I mean, he never could get his feet up under him
01:05:58for the power shots, his punches.
01:06:01This looked like he was winging him
01:06:02instead of throwing him with his body underneath him.
01:06:05And he had opportunities.
01:06:06I mean, Durell was reaching a lot in the end,
01:06:09late in the end of the fight.
01:06:11He had opportunities, just could never capitalize.
01:06:13You're totally correct, Antonio.
01:06:15That's exactly true.
01:06:17And part of the reason why I think the technique of Franch
01:06:23wasn't so good is the quickness of Andre Durell,
01:06:26which affected him most definitely.
01:06:40Points are at stake right now in this tournament,
01:06:43and this crowd is nervous
01:06:46as I move fighters inside the ring.
01:06:48That's it.
01:06:49Hey, get a towel. You got a towel?
01:06:50I got a towel. I got a towel.
01:06:53All right, let's get the official decision
01:06:57from our ring announcer, Jimmy Lennon Jr.
01:06:59I got a towel. I got a towel.
01:07:02Ladies and gentlemen,
01:07:05after 12 rounds of action,
01:07:09we have a split decision.
01:07:15Judging ringside, Alejandro Brochin
01:07:18scores the bout 114 to 113
01:07:23in favor of Andre Durell.
01:07:29Judging ringside, Massimo Barrovenchio
01:07:32scores the bout 115 to 112.
01:07:38In favor of Karl Franch.
01:07:44Judging ringside, Daniel Van Der Veel
01:07:47scores the bout 115 to 112.
01:07:52In favor of the winner
01:07:55and still champion, Pearl,
01:07:59the Cobra Brawler.
01:08:09Karl Franch retains his WBC
01:08:15super middleweight title
01:08:17with a split decision over Andre Durell.
01:08:24And the difficulty, I think, with that,
01:08:26and of course, remember,
01:08:27there was a point deducted at one point,
01:08:30but he would have still won the fight of Karl Franch.
01:08:32I think the difficulty some will have
01:08:34with the split decision is the 115-112 margin.
01:08:38I think you could see it being a point closer,
01:08:41but two judges having it by three points for him
01:08:45is where some, and certainly Durell's supporters,
01:08:48will have issues.
01:08:50Well, I know, as an experienced fighter myself,
01:08:53I mean, you never know what these judges are looking for.
01:08:56I mean, some judges really admire the aggressive fighter
01:09:00that's pressing the fight, that's making the fight.
01:09:03And my hat goes off to Durell.
01:09:05He came, he fought his fight,
01:09:07they gave him the blueprint, he executed.
01:09:09I thought he did more of the things
01:09:10that he should have did in order to be successful tonight.
01:09:21That's his mom, Lola, in the middle.
01:09:25Not a happy trip for them.
01:09:26We were with them at the hotel a lot leading up to this.
01:09:29Now it doesn't end so well.
01:09:31You know, it was a close fight.
01:09:32Make no mistake about it.
01:09:33And you can make the case for Karl Franch winning.
01:09:36I think that margin on the two judges' scorecards
01:09:38is what will bother people.
01:09:39And you hit it on the head, Antonio.
01:09:43What did they like in this fight?
01:09:45And our Jim Gray is standing by with Andre Durell.
01:09:51All right, Gus, thank you very much.
01:09:52Andre, what is your reaction to that decision?
01:09:55Well, we know who we are.
01:09:56We're hometown favorite.
01:09:58I worked my ass off.
01:10:00He came on strong in the last round,
01:10:01giving the last round.
01:10:02But I know I put it off enough,
01:10:04I boxed him enough to gain the decision.
01:10:06But it didn't go my way.
01:10:08The point that was taken away from you.
01:10:11Did you feel as though there were many times in this fight
01:10:13where Franch could have had a point deducted?
01:10:15I still don't know why he took the point from me.
01:10:17I'm still clueless on the point for leaning on him.
01:10:20He been holding him in the back of the head the whole time,
01:10:22bringing me down to one knee.
01:10:24He been rough the whole fight, man.
01:10:25If he didn't take a point from me without no warning,
01:10:27I don't remember warning him telling me to not lean on him.
01:10:31You know, he took the point for that.
01:10:33Well, like I said, we know where we at, man.
01:10:34But I'm gonna hold my head up with pride
01:10:35because I know one day I'm gonna still become world champion.
01:10:37Your grandfather told you going into the last round
01:10:40that you needed a knockout.
01:10:42Did you ever feel as though you would have an opportunity
01:10:45to win a decision here in Nottingham?
01:10:47Of course I did.
01:10:47Otherwise, when he came out here, like I said,
01:10:49I'd do anything for that WBC world title belt.
01:10:52This is the first one.
01:10:53I got another fight next, you know.
01:10:55This ain't gonna motivate me and make me work harder.
01:10:57Like I said, the most dangerous ones
01:10:59is the ones who got that loss first.
01:11:01What did you learn in this fight?
01:11:03First time you went 12 rounds.
01:11:05Obviously, you could have won a decision
01:11:06had it gone another round
01:11:07or judging saw it a little differently.
01:11:09What did you learn?
01:11:10Well, two judges didn't get it extreme.
01:11:12I don't understand it.
01:11:14But then I can go to full 12.
01:11:17I can work my ass when need be.
01:11:19And I'm a warrior, you know.
01:11:21But like I said, we in this hometown.
01:11:24He got this decision.
01:11:25I'd say nothing for us.
01:11:26He tried.
01:11:27How will you handle this disappointment?
01:11:29Get in the gym and work harder.
01:11:30What else can I do?
01:11:30I'm a boxer.
01:11:31This is what I do.
01:11:31This is my sport.
01:11:32This is my life.
01:11:32And I love it.
01:11:33Arthur Abraham had a big victory tonight
01:11:36against Taylor over in Berlin.
01:11:38He will be your next opponent.
01:11:39I know you probably haven't thought much about that.
01:11:42However, here's another guy that's powerful
01:11:43and obviously displayed that this evening.
01:11:46Yes, he did.
01:11:47He's a warrior.
01:11:48Arthur Abraham knows how to fight.
01:11:50I'm sure my fight will be a lot tougher fight
01:11:51going against Abraham.
01:11:52So that don't mean nothing.
01:11:53I got to get in the gym
01:11:55and put in that extra mile.
01:11:57You got a lot to say to Fratch during this fight.
01:12:00What were you talking about?
01:12:01Basically just hold my head
01:12:02and he couldn't handle me as far as boxing went.
01:12:05But, you know, he was pulling on me.
01:12:07He was holding.
01:12:08You know what I'm saying?
01:12:08He was knocking me down.
01:12:09He got the decision.
01:12:10He fought rough.
01:12:12Did you grow up a lot in your own mind tonight?
01:12:14A lot.
01:12:15Yes, I did.
01:12:16Like I said, 12 rounds is crucial.
01:12:1712 rounds is hard.
01:12:18I know I trained for it.
01:12:21You know, I just got to get out there.
01:12:23I got to get in the gym now
01:12:24and execute my game plan a little better.
01:12:28What happened is what happened tonight.
01:12:29And I definitely will learn from it.
01:12:31Andre, terrific performance.
01:12:33And we will see you next round.
01:12:34All right.
01:12:35We'll have Carl Fratch in just a moment.
01:12:36Let's go back over to Gus Johnson.
01:12:39All right, Jim.
01:12:40Let's see how the scoring went for Fratch and Durrell.
01:12:44We look at the Italian judge,
01:12:47Bervecchio, who had a wide margin,
01:12:49as did Van de Veel.
01:12:50115, 112.
01:12:51Relatively wide for Carl Fratch
01:12:53and Alejandro Rochin scoring it for Durrell,
01:12:56liking his boxing.
01:12:57And despite the point deduction,
01:12:59making Durrell the winner by 8 points.
01:13:04Unofficially on press row.
01:13:06All of these writers,
01:13:07well, two of them from Britain,
01:13:09Claude Abraham with Boxing News,
01:13:11he had it for Fratch.
01:13:13Neil Hickman, who is from the Express here,
01:13:16also had it for Fratch.
01:13:17However, Jeff Powell,
01:13:19a very revered writer here in England,
01:13:21had the fight a draw.
01:13:22And I think that kind of scoring
01:13:24just feels a little more appropriate,
01:13:26either way you look at it,
01:13:27than maybe the 115, 112 scores.
01:13:33So Carl Fratch retains his title.
01:13:36He did it the hard way.
01:13:38Not a very pretty fight for Carl Fratch.
01:13:40However, he walks out of the ring victorious
01:13:43and he's standing ringside with our Jim Gray.
01:13:47All right, Gus, thank you very much.
01:13:48Carl, your reaction.
01:13:49Did you feel as though you won this fight?
01:13:51Yeah, I definitely felt I won the fight
01:13:53from round one through to round 12.
01:13:55I got hit with a couple of shots.
01:13:57Rushing in when I went wide with a few shots.
01:13:59I walked into a very, very fast left counterpunch.
01:14:02Let's not forget Andre Durrell.
01:14:04He's a very fast, very quick hand.
01:14:06He's got a good range and he's a great fighter.
01:14:08Now, if you put speed and timing and accuracy together
01:14:13with negativity,
01:14:14which is what I was tonight, negativity,
01:14:15then you can survive against anybody.
01:14:17He didn't want to stand and fight.
01:14:18The minute I got close quarters
01:14:20and tried to rough him up and make a fight of it,
01:14:22the fight which I want to be involved in,
01:14:24he either jumped on the floor,
01:14:25got shoved on the floor,
01:14:26complained to the referee, held on.
01:14:28Every excuse in the book, really.
01:14:29So, you know, what am I supposed to do?
01:14:31If he's not going to stand and fight like a man,
01:14:33like a warrior,
01:14:34then all I can do is take what's there.
01:14:36I took what's there and I'm still champion.
01:14:37So I'm happy.
01:14:38That was a comfortable night for me.
01:14:39I'm really, really, I've got no aches and pains.
01:14:41I'm not damaged.
01:14:42I think I walked onto one or two shots.
01:14:44I can't believe it was a split decision,
01:14:46but there you go.
01:14:46That was one point by the Mexican judge.
01:14:48You can't believe that it's a split decision.
01:14:50Then would you be able to understand in any way
01:14:53how he feels that he got a hometown decision
01:14:55and that the only reason that you won
01:14:56is because we're here in Nottingham?
01:14:58No, that's nonsense.
01:14:59That's nonsense.
01:14:59He's got to come back with something.
01:15:01Excuse me.
01:15:02He's got to come back with something.
01:15:03But, you know, he's a proud fighter
01:15:06and if he wants to make an excuse,
01:15:07then he can make an excuse.
01:15:08But all the fans tonight will probably agree with me
01:15:11that not just because they're hometown fans.
01:15:13Of course they will. They're here.
01:15:14They're for you. This is your town.
01:15:16Not just hometown fans.
01:15:17My fans come to see a fight.
01:15:18They know what I'm capable of.
01:15:19They know what I can do.
01:15:20And I wasn't able to show what I can do tonight
01:15:21because the minute I stood close quarters
01:15:23and tried to have a trade-off,
01:15:24he leaned right back and ran
01:15:26and at times jumped on the floor.
01:15:28I didn't even really manhandle him like I could
01:15:30because the referee was on my case.
01:15:32It was a dissatisfying night for me,
01:15:34but a comfortable enough night.
01:15:35I'm still champion.
01:15:36And I picked up two points
01:15:37in a fabulous super six tournament.
01:15:39So, you know, there's pluses and negatives
01:15:42to come from that fight.
01:15:43Did you feel as though you should have been awarded
01:15:46one of those points for fouling
01:15:47when in many instances it could have been the opposite?
01:15:50It could have gone either way.
01:15:51I don't know if you saw the low blow
01:15:52that Jermaine Taylor suffered tonight.
01:15:54That was a point decision, a point deducted.
01:15:56He stands for the referee.
01:15:57Andre Durand was holding nonstop.
01:15:59If he's going to duck low,
01:16:00I'm going to hit him on the back of the head
01:16:01because it's there to be hit.
01:16:02That's fighting, that's boxing.
01:16:04If he's going to give me the side of his head,
01:16:05I'm going to take it.
01:16:06Not illegally, but because he's ducking low,
01:16:08it's the only thing you can take.
01:16:09So what am I supposed to do?
01:16:10Stand there and wait for him to come up?
01:16:11Because he comes up with a great left hook
01:16:12and he caught me with one of them.
01:16:14You know, so I've got to be careful in there.
01:16:15I'm in there to win the fight
01:16:16and winning is what I did tonight.
01:16:17I'm not 100% satisfied
01:16:19because I like to feel like I've been in a fight
01:16:20and I feel like I could go back in there
01:16:22and do another 12 rounds of Andre Durand
01:16:23and beat him again.
01:16:25Karl, you will now have Mikel Kessler coming up next.
01:16:29I know it's a little early to be thinking about that,
01:16:31but there are those who had thought,
01:16:32and even you in our production meeting,
01:16:35was looking somewhat ahead
01:16:36because you didn't feel as though
01:16:37that this was going to be the ultimate test.
01:16:39What are your thoughts on facing Kessler next?
01:16:41I'm looking forward to fighting Kessler.
01:16:42There you've got a proud warrior
01:16:43who will stand and have a fight
01:16:45and he will exchange blows.
01:16:46He will stand toe-to-toe with me.
01:16:47At times, he's a good boxer.
01:16:48He moves well and he's got slick skills,
01:16:51but at times, he will stand and have a trade-up with me
01:16:53and that's what the fans want to see.
01:16:55That's what the Super 6 is all about.
01:16:56People fighting to be winners
01:16:58and to achieve the goal of becoming
01:17:00the undisputed champion,
01:17:01super middleweight champion of the world.
01:17:03And Mikel Kessler will bring that fight.
01:17:04That will be a massive fight.
01:17:05I've got a slippery little sucker out the way there
01:17:07in Andre Durand.
01:17:08He's a good fighter, but he was very slippery
01:17:10and he'll come back.
01:17:11He'll come again, but he'll never beat the Cobra.
01:17:14Karl, congratulations to you.
01:17:15We enjoyed being here in Nottingham.
01:17:17Thanks for having us and good luck in your next fight.
01:17:19I'll see you soon.
01:17:19Thank you very much.
01:17:20All right, Gus, back over to you.
01:17:23All right, let's take a look at the standings.
01:17:26Two down, one more to go.
01:17:29Group stage one.
01:17:30Yeah, Arthur Abramoff to a big start
01:17:32with the knockout victory.
01:17:34And Karl Fratsch with a split decision
01:17:37getting the two points.
01:17:39And it's very interesting
01:17:41because what Andre Durand showed,
01:17:43even though he didn't win a point,
01:17:44was he belongs in this tournament.
01:17:48Gus Johnson, along with Al Bernstein and Antonio Tarver.
01:17:52And Antonio, we'll start with you.
01:17:53Your reaction to Karl Fratsch's victory
01:17:57and the way Andre Durand fought this evening.
01:18:00I thought that Karl Fratsch did have some points.
01:18:03Durand did a lot of holding.
01:18:05If you look at his fights in the past,
01:18:07he has been a fighter that has fallen down
01:18:09in the ring numerous times.
01:18:12He has run in the past,
01:18:13but he did show terrific hand speed,
01:18:15some great skill, and also composure and stamina.
01:18:19Most definitely.
01:18:19I mean, you have to take your hat off
01:18:21to the champion, Krotch.
01:18:22I mean, he kept coming.
01:18:23He pressed the fight.
01:18:25And sometime, Fratsch, I'm sorry.
01:18:26And sometime you just don't know
01:18:28what the judges are looking for.
01:18:29I mean, if they're looking for aggressive pressure boxing,
01:18:33then you have to go with Fratsch.
01:18:35If you're looking for skill, movement,
01:18:37and a lot of boxing ability,
01:18:39then you go with Durand.
01:18:40So you just never know
01:18:41what the judges are looking for tonight.
01:18:43But I say this for Durand,
01:18:44he proved tonight that he belonged in the top six,
01:18:47the super six classic.
01:18:49In our first fight of the evening,
01:18:51Arthur Abraham, a 12th round,
01:18:54incredible knockout with Jermaine Taylor.
01:18:56First of all, Jermaine Taylor, by the way,
01:18:58was taken to the hospital after the fight,
01:19:00suffering from a concussion,
01:19:03and they are just observing him
01:19:05for this evening in Berlin.
01:19:06But Arthur Abraham out of the gate quickly.
01:19:09He has three points.
01:19:10He gets two for a win, one for a knockout.
01:19:12And boy, what a knockout it was.
01:19:14It was vintage Arthur Abraham
01:19:16in the sense that he used that defense,
01:19:18he used his bursts of power,
01:19:20and that fight went almost exactly to script
01:19:24as we would have thought it would.
01:19:25And by the way, let me mention about this fight,
01:19:27you know, if Carl Fratsch wasn't a fighter,
01:19:29he'd be a lawyer, wouldn't he?
01:19:30He talks as good a game as he fights.
01:19:33He spoke his piece very well at the end.
01:19:35That's right.
01:19:36All right, Al, great working with you as always.
01:19:38And Antonio, terrific insight on tonight's fight.
01:19:42Special thanks to Steve Albert and Steve Farhut in Berlin.
