00:00Stiney and Guru on 95.7 The Game.
00:03Timmy!
00:04Sam Roy!
00:05He got it!
00:06Yeah, they were a little, they were a little loose in the first quarter.
00:09Yeah, no doubt.
00:10Other than that, they were pretty good.
00:11And it was open at night.
00:12Exactly.
00:13Um, give me something from last night.
00:17Yeah, just give me something you liked.
00:19Just give me something that stuck out.
00:20Uh, Jackson Davis.
00:22Okay.
00:23Uh, Trace Jackson Davis and, I mean, Stiney, if we want to go baseball, I feel like he
00:27hit 390 last year just with him being able to, you know, get in and not look overwhelmed.
00:34He's got bricks in the back pocket and he's got a foundation, as we talked about with
00:38Jonathan Kaminga.
00:39But TJD started, uh, he did nothing for me to think Kerr's going to make a move there
00:45going forward tomorrow, Stiney.
00:47And the one facet about his game I love is the guys can do the ha-ha, do whatever they're
00:52going to do, give it to him.
00:55And he went up and, and, and, and viciously dunked a couple of times.
00:59So I like TJD.
01:01I really do.
01:02He's, he's given them a foundation and allowed, uh, down low Draymond Green to play for.
01:08So he doesn't have to be Joe Frazier boxing with those bigs every night.
01:12Aiton stinks, by the way.
01:14Uh, that's what I always mean.
01:16But you know what?
01:17So that's two or three years.
01:18Go get Aiton.
01:19Get Aiton.
01:20Why?
01:21But he's skilled though.
01:22He stinks.
01:23He's skilled though, Stiney.
01:25He's skilled.
01:26Jackson and Walnut Creek.
01:27How much does, does Aiton stink?
01:28Oh my.
01:29How you guys doing?
01:30We're doing well, man.
01:31Thanks for the call.
01:32Right on.
01:33Love the show, guys.
01:34I just want to talk about how I love the way Steph was dishing the ball last night.
01:35I want to see if you guys think maybe this is a new role coming into the year.
01:36Maybe dishing a little more.
01:37He got better, you know, teammates that could all around shoot.
01:38I want to see what you guys think.
01:39Yeah.
01:40Yeah.
01:41Yeah.
01:42Yeah.
01:43Yeah.
01:44Yeah.
01:45Yeah.
01:46Yeah.
01:47Yeah.
01:48Yeah.
01:49Yeah.
01:50Yeah.
01:51Yeah.
01:52Yeah.
01:53Yeah.
01:55I know.
01:56I know.
01:57I appreciate it.
01:58Yeah.
01:59One thirty-nine.
02:00Ten assists.
02:01We'll see.
02:02But I'll say this.
02:03You're not going to play, even start tomorrow, Stiney.
02:04You're not going to be playing the lonely, the lowly Portland Trailblazers.
02:07But I love everybody and their passing last night, Stiney, to the two and a seventy, excuse
02:14me, how many assists did they have?
02:15Thirty-seven.
02:16Thirty-eight.
02:17Thirty-eight assists.
02:18So, Steph had ten, but everybody was dishing the ball.
02:22It was popping, as they say.
02:23And I like that.
02:24Last year, I don't know.
02:25Not so much.
02:26Yeah.
02:27As it pertains to Curry, I thought he was good.
02:33I think we're going to see what I saw a little bit last night was a little tougher for him
02:40to finish.
02:42And at least in the second half, I don't think he was tired.
02:45But when he gets into penetration situations and the middle's kind of clogged, those plays
02:53get harder as you get older.
02:55But other than that, this was a real nice effort by the Golden State Warriors last night.
03:01And we're going to be talking about it today.
03:038-8-8, 9-5-7, 9-5-7-0 is the number.
03:08A couple things I jotted down.
03:10Obviously, nobody played more than 25 minutes.
03:12It's a great start.
03:14Kavon Looney.
03:16Kavon Looney.
03:18I think we've got a roll for Kavon Looney.
03:2014 minutes last night.
03:22Going up against the other team's second team.
03:28That's when he's really good, when he can go up against the second team, because he's
03:31so much smarter than so many of these other players.
03:34How many times did he, Portland had the rebounds, Donnie, and he made it a jump ball by just
03:39using IQ?
03:40Yeah.
03:41I mean, he was, you know, when you've got Looney out there and Draymond out there, that's
03:46a pretty good defensive front court.
03:49There's no doubt about it.
03:51If Wiggins and Kuminga can defend on the perimeter with their size, maybe this team will be a
03:56pretty good defensive team.
03:57What did you make of Wiggins?
03:58Because at first, I was like, ah, and it wasn't just about the ball not going in, but 8-15,
04:03Stonnie, 4-7 from three.
04:06Somebody on Twitter came at me, I pointed out, did Wiggins, you know, when he's on,
04:11can play and shoot 38-40% from three in a season.
04:16He's done that.
04:17And they were just like, oh, that was a fluke game, he'll do 4-7.
04:20And I'm like, don't hate on Wiggins and his ability to shoot from three, Stonnie.
04:25When he's going good, he can do that.
04:27Well, I mean, in fairness, Kerr started Wiggins and he started Kuminga.
04:33They didn't get off to a great start.
04:36That lineup didn't get off to a great start, but again, Steve Kerr is indicating it's not
04:41about what he's seeing offensively.
04:45He wants to create a defensive tone, and he thinks that might be the team that can do
04:48it.
04:50That's something that I really like.
04:51They were running, Stonnie.
04:52Yeah.
04:53Yeah.
04:546-5-0.
04:55Warriors were awful in the first half against a terrible team, yet you guys are making it
04:58seem like they dominated.
05:00They won by 35.
05:01Yeah.
05:02They were up 15 at half.
05:03And, wow.
05:04I mean, you start nitpicking 35-point wins, what are we doing?
05:08Steph Curry didn't even, the starters didn't even play in the fourth, bud.
05:11I know.
05:12Yeah.
05:13I know.
05:148-8-8, 9-5-7.
05:159-5-7-0 is the number.
05:18And the Golden State Warriors get the season off to a real, real good start last night.
05:23139-104, and you know what?
05:25I know it's only the first game of the year, but it's not too early to start to try to
05:29stack wins, and Utah doesn't look like they're going to be a great team.
05:34I think the Clippers are very vulnerable, so maybe you want to get off to a good start
05:39knowing that these are the first three opponents.
05:41You got Portland and Utah, probably bottom Western Conference teams, and then the Clippers
05:46who are, I just think, very, they could be in for a long season.
05:54Now that I don't doubt.
05:56But I'll say this about Utah, don't sleep on them.
05:58They gave Memphis all that and some last night.
06:00But you said you weren't into those games.
06:02No, I was locked in on the Warriors game.
06:05Because if you lock in on the Warriors game, then you have all the conversation at your
06:11fingertips, but if you only watch the Warriors and other teams, then your knowledge isn't
06:15quite as much.
06:16Well, I was talking on Wednesday night when you said you weren't focused on Boston and
06:20New York.
06:21That's when I asked.
06:22Tuesday night?
06:23Yeah, Tuesday night.
06:24Excuse me.
06:25Yeah, no, I watched the Timberwolves-Lakers game.
06:26No.
06:27How about Bronny?
06:28Were your heartstrings tugged at?
06:32When those two checked in in the second quarter, it was nothing short of basketball history.
06:42It was.
06:43And one purchase.
06:44I got a little.
06:45I don't know if you remember this.
06:46One purchase.
06:47Verklempt.
06:48Stop.
06:49I got a little verklempt.
06:50Wake me up when it's organic.
06:51Oh.
06:52And to have the Griffies there.
06:53Oh, beautiful.
06:54The Griffies who earned their spot and are stewards of the game.
06:57This guy.
06:58And we're supposed to sit up there and act like this is organic.
07:01What doesn't fit in this Bronny?
07:03Then what are we doing?
07:06We are the stupidest people in the world, but hey, go ahead and do it.
07:10It was a great moment.
07:11Now, if that was a little Durrell, Donovan, or Milan, I'd have did the same thing.
07:15But miss me when it's not natural because one person didn't earn their keep.
07:21But LeBron, you are so great and I love you and respect you.
07:24Why not bring the other kids in, the daughter and Bryce?
07:28Bring in, what's his wife's name?
07:29I forget her name.
07:30Just bring, let them check into.
07:32Why stop it, Bronny?
07:34It's just Savannah.
07:36Why stop it, Bronny?
07:37I just, our society is so, and we got an election coming up too.
07:43Oh, that matters.
07:44Oh my, oh, I just, I want to go to another planet, Bob.
07:47I'm tired, man.
07:48I am tired.
07:50If you think for one minute, you wouldn't kick my ass to the curb so that you could
07:55work with young Darrell or Donovan, you would do it.
08:01You would do it.
08:03You would.
08:04And you know it.
08:05And you know it.
08:06Let's go to Bert in Benicia.
08:07What's up, Bert?
08:08How you doing, man?
08:09Hey, what's up, boys?
08:10I think the unit that showed the most cohesion last night was when it was Steph, Pod, Buddy
08:21Heald, Draymond, and Trace Jackson.
08:24I think that five really looked good.
08:26The passing was good.
08:27The spacing was good.
08:29Heald got open threes in the corner, which is where you want him taking them.
08:33And then that leaves, kind of to your point, Sonny, Looney at the five with the second
08:38team at the point guard, and then you got Kuminga, Wiggins, and Booty to round out your
08:44second unit.
08:45And I think that's a really good ten to kind of build off of.
08:48Yeah, I'm with you.
08:50I like Looney off the bench a lot these days rather than starting.
08:55And they got a lot of different combinations they can use.
08:58They used a lot of them last night.
09:00And you know, Pod's going to be an interesting one this year.
09:05Yeah, no doubt about it.
09:07He may...
09:08How many minutes did he play last year?
09:1025 minutes.
09:1125 minutes, 0 for 5 from the field.
09:13No, I'm talking about how many minutes did he average last year.
09:16Last year, OK.
09:17I thought you were talking about last night.
09:18He may not be an automatic on this team.
09:21And it's not a bad thing, but Sonny, what I like...
09:24Wow.
09:2527 minutes a game last night.
09:26Yeah, so two off.
09:27Last year.
09:28I'm going to give you the victory lap just for...
09:30You like...
09:31Stop.
09:32You like in the trio of the guys that came in that already know how to play basketball.
09:38So you don't got to teach them or go out your way.
09:41They're vets.
09:43And I love what I saw from D'Anthony Melt.
09:45Now you could say all four of 11, but no, Sonny, you could see there's going to be games
09:49and moments.
09:50Gary Payton II, I won't say we left him for dead, but he can take the ball from the best
09:56of them.
09:57He was a plus 26 on the night.
09:58So we are back and it's one game.
10:01But this is the title of the jam until and if they make a move, it is totally a strength
10:07in numbers.
10:08Donnie, they're going to be different heroes on different nights.
10:11Yeah, there's no doubt about that.
10:13And Evan, let's go to the Kerr cut.
10:16This is postgame.
10:18Steve Kerr, easy 63 on Steve Kerr talking about this deep rotation and how he's going
10:26to have to coach this team at least at the start of the year.
10:30I mean, we're going to do it.
10:32I've never played 12 before, but we're going to do it.
10:34So it's not easy, but it's not easy on on anybody.
10:39But we just have to trust that from one night to the next, we're going to find guys and
10:44combinations that really work.
10:46We'll see.
10:47Well, there's Steve Kerr going to try to play 12 guys.
10:52Now why do you think that is, Donnie?
10:54Because there's too much competition.
10:55Wow, man.
10:56Because the seventh man is not significantly better than the 11th man.
11:02And you know, last night he went to four players before the game.
11:07He went to Moses Moody, Kavon Looney, Gary Payton II, and Kyle Anderson.
11:13And he said to those four, I can't guarantee two of you are going to get playing time tonight.
11:20I can't guarantee it.
11:23And as it turns out, they won convincingly.
11:26And so he ended up using all four.
11:28But that's clearly what we're headed toward night to night.
11:34One night, Moody might not get a lot of playing time.
11:37The next, maybe Kyle Anderson doesn't get a lot of playing time.
11:40Maybe the game after that, Pajemski doesn't get as much.
11:44Maybe it's Kaminga.
11:45But you got to be a professional in how you handle that if it's your time and maybe you're
11:49out of the rotation.
11:50And that's the one thing Moses Moody, to get that contract, Stony, that's the one thing
11:55I think he mastered or perfected, even when he wasn't in games, saying, you know what,
12:00I'd rather ride the bench in the NBA than be back at Arkansas.
12:03So you got to give them that.
12:05So you know, it was one game.
12:08They blew out Portland.
12:09So I know they didn't have a first field goal the first five minutes.
12:12What did Fitz say?
12:13I don't know if you got him, Stony.
12:14The Warriors will make a three.
12:17And they got hot.
12:18They took 48 of them.
12:19Yeah, and that's what Steve Kerr said he wants from this team.
12:228-8-8, 9-5-7, 9-5-7-0.
12:26The NBA season is underway and the Warriors, they beat the Blazers last night, 1-39, 1-0-4.
12:33Total team effort.
12:34Nobody plays more than 25 minutes.
12:37And the identity of the Warriors this year looks like it's going to be depth, at least
12:43until and unless they get banged up a little bit.
12:45But Steve Kerr, he said it last night.
12:48We're going to do it.
12:49We're going to play 12 guys.
