00:00The U.S. presidential election is happening in less than two weeks. However, American voters
00:04might have to wait much longer to find out who actually wins. Not only does it often take days
00:09to count the votes, but an election this close will likely involve recounts, delays, and more
00:14before anyone is comfortable calling it. So how long will we have to wait? Well, in 2020,
00:19Joe Biden wasn't declared the winner until four days after voters cast their ballots. In 2024,
00:24political experts agree that it will likely be one of the closest races in American history,
00:28meaning it will likely take even longer. Right now, there are seven hotly contested
00:33battleground states, with polling showing Harris and Trump are effectively tied. What's more,
00:37nearly 30 million ballots have already been cast by mail, and in some states, those cannot even
00:42be counted until election day. And since mail and ballots require far more due diligence to
00:46qualify their authenticity, they take far longer to count. So we have some procedural issues that
00:51will no doubt slow down the election, and that's in addition to other issues, like some anticipated
00:55election fraud claims coming from Donald Trump. In 2020, that included a wrongful declaration of
01:01his victory on election night, myriad lawsuits, and election investigations ultimately leading
01:06to nothing save for an insurrection in our nation's capital.
