00:00Vote counting is well underway for one of the tightest presidential battles in US history.
00:10Millions of voters headed to the polls to make their choice for the country's next
00:13leader, deciding on the direction of the United States for the next four years.
00:19And the two main candidates represent two sharply different visions for the country.
00:26After running for a second term in office after losing a re-election bid in 2020 and
00:37surviving two assassination attempts, Republican candidate Donald Trump cast his ballot in
00:42his home state of Florida.
00:45In the four years since his presidency, Trump's had 34 felony convictions, but he's not
00:50lost support among his base with his message of putting America first and protecting its
00:54democracy by tightening rules on immigration.
00:58Side by side with wife Melania, the Republican candidate appeared optimistic.
01:02I feel very confident.
01:04I have felt.
01:05You know, we went in with a very big lead today, and it looks like Republicans have
01:10shown up in force.
01:13After losing the polls in 2020, he alleged cheating and called on his supporters to protect
01:18their vote, which resulted in deadly riots as they attacked the Capitol.
01:24After vowing to unite a divided country, Democratic candidate Kamala Harris ran a historic campaign.
01:30The incumbent vice president of Jamaican and South Asian descent could be the first woman
01:35to win the presidency.
01:38Her policies have been attacked as too liberal, while Trump has taken aim at her handling
01:42of the U.S. border.
01:45On election day, Harris was greeted by cheering crowds at the DNC headquarters in Washington,
01:50D.C.
01:51This truly represents the best that we are.
01:55Just reaching out to folks, letting them know that we're all in it together, reminding them
02:01of the power of their votes and their voice.
02:04This is just the best, best, best.
02:07And I just thank you all so very much.
02:09Nationwide voting has been mostly orderly, despite bomb threats at some polling stations
02:16across the country.
02:18Votes the FBI say are not credible and originated in Russia, as state authorities called for calm.
02:24Because we understand how polarized America is, and we know how sometimes people want
02:28to take advantage of that, and a lot of that is foreign state actors that don't have our
02:32best, you know, our best outcome in their hearts.
02:37Despite those disturbances, there was a huge turnout in key battleground states, where
02:42Trump and Harris are neck and neck.
02:45The Democratic Party is expressing mixed feelings about the candidates, with key issues on their
02:49minds including the economy, immigration, abortion, and the fate of democracy.
02:54I voted for her, Kanye Harris, because I don't think it's right for anybody to dictate to
03:00women what to do with their bodies.
03:03We have enough problems as it is, of just being a woman.
03:07So I don't think it's right for anybody to dictate to any female to tell them what to
03:13do with their body.
03:14Today I voted for Donald Trump, and I really disagree with all of his policies, and my
03:21convictions align with his beliefs a little bit more than the other parties.
03:27Voters are now watching as some of the country's 50 states are called, but tallies in the seven
03:31swing states are the main focus.
03:35Outcomes in Arizona, Georgia, Michigan, Nevada, North Carolina, Wisconsin, and Pennsylvania
03:41are thought to hold the keys to the White House.
03:45The results could take days to be finalized, and are now in the hands of ballot counters
03:50across the country.
