00:53Hello and welcome to From the South, my name is Belen De Los Santos, I'm in the Tesla Studios
00:58in Caracas, Venezuela.
00:59We begin with the news.
01:17The Lebanese television channel Al Mayadeen's correspondent reported a new Israeli aggression
01:22on freedom of the press.
01:24As a hotel in Hezbollah, South Lebanon, hosting journalists covering the Israeli continuous
01:29attacks was deliberately targeted by the Zionist occupying force.
01:33Footage shows the aftermath of the Israeli attacks on the group of journalists, two of
01:38the victims killed in this action were Al Mayadeen's cameramen, Chasman Nasser and broadcast engineer
01:46Mohamed Reda.
01:47Another mortal victim of this strike is Al Mayadeen's cameraman, Wissam Kassim.
01:53The aggression is nothing new for Israel as dozens of reporters have been killed in Gaza
01:59and Lebanon since October 7th last year in an attempt to hide the truth of the genocidal
02:04policies of Benjamin Netanyahu.
02:13The Israeli army confirmed on October 25th the death of another soldier in addition to
02:18the four soldiers reported killed in the fight against the Hezbollah group in a Southern
02:24Lebanese village.
02:25The death of the fifth Israeli soldier occurred the previous day amid the ground offensive
02:30against the Iranian-backed Lebanese group.
02:33The army also reported that three other soldiers were wounded in separate incidents around
02:38the Israeli-Lebanon border.
02:41The injured were transferred in critical conditions to the hospitals since Israel launched its
02:46ground offensive in Southern Lebanon in the early hours of October 1st.
02:51At least 29 Israeli soldiers have been killed in attacks near the border.
03:00Iran and Saudi Arabia are planning to conduct more joint military exercises in the Red Sea
03:05and the Gulf of Aden amid their growing warm relations.
03:09Iran's navy chief near Admiral Shahram Irani informed that Saudi Arabia requested a combined
03:16exercise in the Red Sea.
03:18Coordination is underway and delegations from both countries will hold the necessary consultations
03:24on how to conduct the exercise.
03:26Moreover, Irani stated that some Western nations are concerned because they have no justification
03:33for their presence in the region.
03:54Now we move on to other topics.
03:55At least 46 people lost their lives due to the tropical storm Trami, which affected the
04:01northern Philippines.
04:02At least seven people were injured and others were reported missing due to the consequences
04:07of the torrential rains which caused floods on the island of Luzon.
04:11The president of the country, Ferdinand Marcos, ordered the full mobilization of the armed
04:15forces to participate in the rescue operations.
04:19The authorities suspended classes in schools and public institutions throughout the island
04:24of Luzon.
04:25Moreover, Typhoon Trami paralyzed transportation and led to the cancellation of scheduled air
04:30flights.
04:37On Wednesday, the Chilean National Geology and Mining Service decreed a yellow alert
04:41for the Alto Bío Bíos commune due to an increase in the activity of the Copanabá
04:46volcano.
04:47According to the agency, during the last few days, the massif located on the border with
04:53Argentina emitted ashes, gases and pyroclasts into the atmosphere.
04:58The instability led the authorities to raise the alert from green to yellow, which means
05:03that the population must be kept informed through the official channels of local and
05:08national authorities about the risk areas and the evacuation plans.

05:54Welcome back to From the South.
06:09Russian President Vladimir Putin closed the 16th Summit of the BRICS Block of Developing
06:14Economies on Thursday.
06:16The three-day summit in the city of Kazan was attended by leaders of representatives
06:20of 36 countries, highlighting the failure of United States-led efforts to isolate Russia.
06:27The summit covered the deepening of financial cooperation, including the development of
06:31alternatives to Western-dominated payment systems, efforts to settle regional conflicts
06:37and expansion of the BRICS Group of Nations.
06:40In this intervention, participants voiced concerns about the disruptive effect of unlawful
06:45unilateral coercive measures, including illegal sanctions, and reiterated their commitment
06:51to enhancing financial cooperation within BRICS.
06:54Faster, low-cost, more efficient, transparent, safe and inclusive cross-border payment instruments
07:00built upon the principle of minimizing trade barriers and non-discriminatory access.
07:12And in this context, for its part, the Government of Venezuela released a statement thanking
07:16the President of Russia Vladimir Putin and his country for inviting the President Nicolas
07:21Maduro to the BRICS Plus Summit in Kazan.
07:24In the statement, Caracas declared that Venezuela has the support of the countries participating
07:29in this summit to formalize its entry into its integration mechanism.
07:34But through an action that contradicts the nature of the BRICS, the Brazilian Foreign
07:38Ministry delegation, led by Ambassador Eduardo Paes Aboia, decided to maintain the veto that
07:45Bolsonaro applied on Venezuela for years, reproducing the hate, the exclusion and the
07:50intolerance promoted by centers of Western power to prevent, for now, the entry of believers
07:56homeland to the organization.
07:58Finally, the statement closed by affirming that the Venezuelan people are ashamed of
08:03this inexplicable and immoral aggression from the Brazilian Foreign Ministry that maintains
08:08the worst of Bolsonaro's policies against the Bolivarian Revolution, founded by Commander
08:14Hugo Chavez.
08:20On Thursday, Vice President Kamala Harris held a star-studded rally in Swing State,
08:26Georgia, where former President Barack Obama and rock legend Bruce Springsteen joined her
08:31final push for voters ahead of the November 5th elections.
08:35Harris cranked up the celebrity wattage of a series of concerts in battlegrounds, dating
08:42in hopes of pulling away from rival Donald Trump.
08:45Springsteen and Obama each delivered barbs aimed at the Republican, as they addressed
08:52a crowd of thousands in Clarkston, just outside Atlanta.
08:57Harris emphasized her middle-class roots, drawing contrast with the billionaire Trump,
09:01and said that she would prioritize battling inflation as President.
09:06''We will build a future where we bring down the cost of living, and that will be
09:11my focus every single day as President of the United States,'' she stated.
09:20With less than two weeks to go before the November 5th elections in the U.S. presidential
09:24campaign, this phase is marked by the intensity of the political contest and a warring increase
09:30in electoral violence.
09:32Vice President Kamala Harris and former President Donald Trump wage a tight battle for the swing
09:37vote in seven key states, as the Justice Department grapples with escalating threats against election
09:44officials.
09:45In parallel to political activity, the Justice Department has had to intervene in an escalation
09:50of violence that has evolved from simple phone threats and text messages to shootings
09:56and attacks.
09:58This week's the Election Threats Task Force has prosecuted four serious cases that illustrate
10:03the magnitude of the problem.
10:09Meanwhile in Mexico, at least 16 people died after a clash after criminal groups and police
10:15officers in the southern state of Guerrero.
10:18The Secretariat of National Defense reported that in a first armed encounter in the municipality
10:23of Tecna de Galeana, which involved police officers, two people died and four more were
10:29injured.
10:30Subsequently, members of the Army and the National Guard confronted a criminal group
10:34that had previously attacked a military base in the same area, killing 14 gunmen.
10:3916 vehicles were also seized, as well as handmade weapons, 15 long arms, a Barrett rifle, a
10:46machine gun, ammunition and improvised explosive devices.
10:55Images show forensic experts working at the site of a car bomb explosion in front of the
11:00Municipal Public Security Secretariat that left three policemen wounded in the municipality
11:05of Acambaro, and members of the Mexican Army working at the site of another car bomb explosion
11:12in Jarecuaro, Guanajuato State.
11:20In February 2025, the Mexican government will initiate the program Health House by House,
11:26which will have more than 22,000 health professionals as part of the initiative.
11:31For many specialties, this project is an opportunity to raise public awareness and a way to make
11:37people feel protected and accompanied by the program.
11:41This program, led by President Claudia Sheinbaum, will provide free care for seniors affiliated
11:46with the Vienna Star pension.
11:48The Delegate of the Welfare Programs in the State of Mexico, Ernesto Armendariz, informed
11:54that recruitment of medical and nursing personnel has been opened to cover a little more than
12:001,600 positions that will be operating the new social program Health House by House.

12:41Welcome back to From the South.
12:54In Uruguay, promoters of the plebiscite which intends to reform some aspects of social security
13:00held their campaign closing ceremony in view of the national elections to be held next
13:05Sunday, October 27th.
13:07Social organizations, which are members of the National Commission for the Yes, called
13:11on the Uruguayan people to support the plebiscite.
13:15The petition is also aimed at lowering the retirement age, equalizing the minimum retirement
13:19with the minimum wage, and eliminating the profit in the social security system, with
13:25at least 40% of the population supporting these changes.
13:28Likewise, the electoral ban has already been announced, prohibiting propaganda acts.
13:34However, there is still a high number of undecided voters, and the final result is
13:39uncertain.
13:40This Sunday, the people will be able to put an end to the privatization of a fundamental
13:52human right, such as social security.
13:56The popular movement put three central points in favor of the workers.
14:01So it is a very important struggle against the financial capital of this country, therefore
14:07the importance of it.
14:08In Chile, starting on Friday, October 25th, the electoral ban is in force after a campaign
14:14extended for almost two months with view to the municipal and regional elections to be
14:18held on Saturday and Sunday.
14:21As of Friday, it is prohibited to hold events, demonstrations or public meetings, as well
14:25as television, radio or written propaganda, through social networks and other similar
14:30media.
14:31The campaign was impacted by three factors, the growing climate of insecurity, the corruption
14:35scandal of the political elite, known as the audio case, which has hit the right wing and
14:41the accusation of rape against the now former Undersecretary of the Interior, Manuel Monsalve,
14:47elements that, according to analysts, will have an impact on the outcome of the voting
14:52for mayor, councilmen, governors and regional councillors.
15:01And the Executive Vice President of Venezuela, Delcy Rodríguez, arrived in India to strengthen
15:06and consolidate ties of friendship and cooperation with the government of this Asian nation.
15:12Rodríguez arrived in New Delhi to carry out an extensive work agenda that will allow strengthening
15:17the relations of friendship and cooperation, as well as reaffirming the commitment to build
15:23a new world without hegemonies.
15:26In this regard, it is important to highlight that Venezuela and India have made significant
15:31progress in strengthening their bilateral relations to expand cooperation, such as trade,
15:37investment and promotion of the alternative energies.
15:40In addition, both countries have signed several agreements in the pharmaceutical and energy
15:45industries.
15:46And like this, we have come to the end of this news brief.
