Joe Buck reacts to Newcastle United's defeat against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge in the Premier League. Goals from Nicolas Jackson and Cole Palmer either side of an Alexander Isak strike was enough to secure all three points for the Blues and inflict a third defeat of the season on Eddie Howe's side.

00:00So, Newcastle United suffer their second defeat in just over a week, their third defeat of
00:06the season after being beaten 2-1 here at Stamford Bridge by Chelsea. Goals from Nicholas
00:11Jackson and Cole Palmer either side of half-time won Chelsea the game in another disappointing
00:18game for Newcastle. Much like last week, I think the performance was certainly better
00:24last week, there's no arguing that. I think they were OK in time at spells this weekend.
00:29I think other than the first move, 15 minutes, they matched Chelsea pretty much all over
00:34the park, bar Cole Palmer, which we'll get on to. But yeah, I think Newcastle will be
00:38disappointed to go home without anything to show for their efforts. Anyhow, speaking after
00:43the game, he said he was happy with his side's performance, just disappointed in a couple
00:46of mistakes and failing to put the ball in the back of the net, you know, so it cost
00:51his side. And you can't really argue with that. They started off slowly, really slowly
00:55in fact. Arnburn got beat a couple of times by Nicholas Jackson halfway and that really
00:59sort of set the tone for the first 10 or so minutes. Chelsea scored through Cole Palmer,
01:02that was choked off by VAR. It was offside, very close, but it was offside. And that was
01:07a real wake-up call for Newcastle. And to be fair to them, they sort of regrouped after
01:11that. It maybe took sort of 5-10 minutes for whatever message was sent on at that point
01:14to get through with them. But they eventually did regroup. But they were hit with a blow
01:20when again, Palmer in the middle of the action sent a brilliant ball to Neto to be fair.
01:25He sort of unlocked the defence. Livermore may be caught out of position slightly. It
01:28would be harsh to blame him solely for that. But yes, you know, Neto was set through and
01:32he played it across to Nicholas Jackson. Jackson tapped home. 1-0 Chelsea and it was deserved
01:37certainly at that point for Chelsea to lead. As I said, they had that early goal and they
01:41were really on top of that. But Newcastle held in well and they equalised through Alexander.
01:46He's had the first goal from outfield for 7 hours or over 7 hours now by the time that
01:54tackle went in. Tino Liveromento pitted up on the right. He drove into midfield. A couple
01:58of nice balls into midfield. He eventually gave it to the ball venture, Lewis Hall. Lewis
02:04Hall's cross. He found Isak in the middle to tap home. He couldn't really ask for an
02:08easier chance. Although he'll get under that again a little bit later. And you know, you
02:12can say he hit the break 1-1 and he felt that that was maybe slightly fortunate for them.
02:16And maybe Chelsea just shaded the first half. But you couldn't begrudge the fact that they
02:19got that goal. And they definitely built themselves into that, into that half. They were definitely
02:23better come sort of the second half of the first half. But minutes after halftime, I'm
02:28not sure what message was sent in at the break, but Newcastle fell behind again. Again, Parma
02:33capitalised on a mistake from Alexander Isak. He lost the ball in midfield. Parma takes
02:38a couple of steps. Shoots into the near post. Nick Pope would be disappointed, I think,
02:41to get beat at his near post. And you know, Newcastle fell behind again and they had it
02:45all to do. They battled hard, as I said. You know, ruddled it a couple of times. Although
02:50Nick Pope didn't have too many big saves to make. Neto did hit the post with a header.
02:55A couple of people around me suggested Chelsea had battered Newcastle. I'm sure that was
03:01far from it, really. I think the stats were saying that Chelsea probably shaded it and
03:03maybe deserved the win. But certainly it wasn't a battering. But the big moment of the game
03:07for Newcastle in that second half was Alexander Isak. He was sent through. He rounded the
03:11keeper. 1-1. And Joe Linton and support, Sean Longstaff running in. And he just didn't get
03:17the ball out of his feet and find Joe Linton or Longstaff or any teammate. Chelsea clear
03:22and that was Newcastle's best chance. It was a real good chance for Newcastle. It was a
03:27shame that they couldn't do anything from that. That was the moment. Isak wouldn't have
03:31asked for a better opportunity than that. And that was really how the story of the game.
03:37Newcastle pushed for an equaliser but didn't really get any shots to test Sanchez. Chelsea
03:42awarded a very late penalty by Simon Hooper. That was quickly overruled by VAR. It was
03:47a strange day for the referee. He wasn't one of the best gamers. Not often that you get
03:52booed and jeered from both sets of fans but that's exactly what he did today. It was a
03:56soft penalty. He made a couple of different decisions, weird decisions I think, throughout
04:02the course of play. But VAR was there to do what it did. It choked off that chance for
04:08the first goal for half-side. It rightly told Simon Hooper to change, or certainly looking
04:13to monitor and change his decision for that penalty. It gave Newcastle's goal, which was
04:17very close to being offside. It was a given initially. The VAR check was very close. But
04:21ultimately that's all irrelevant. You can't really blame referees for losing the game
04:25that's already applied to them. Newcastle now face Chelsea in midweek. So just three
04:30days' time at St James' Park with their hopes of progressing in the Carabao Cup. It's probably
04:34their, well it's not their only chance of a trophy of course, but certainly their best
04:38chance of a trophy. They'll feel like whilst Chelsea is going to be a tough game, as we've
04:43seen today, they'll fancy their chances at home. Yeah, they have to bounce back. It's
04:47out five without a win for Newcastle. They have to go and get something against Chelsea.
04:51They have to win that game, no matter how they do it, because they've got Arsenal and
04:54Nottingham Forest to come before the next international break. The Premier League form
04:57has suffered. If they can get a win in the Carabao Cup, does it plaster over the cracks?
05:00Maybe. Maybe it does. Just do that a little bit. For right now, that's all they're attempting.
05:03It's just got to be focused on Tuesday, because as I said, defeated here against Chelsea 2-1
05:07in another disappointing Premier League result. Performance may be slightly encouraging, but
05:13yeah, it's not going to matter when the result is 2-1 to Chelsea. So, yeah, Newcastle United
05:18lose here the second week in a row against Chelsea 2-1, and face their Blues in just three
05:23days' time at St James' Park.
