00:00The latest data comes as the Victorian Parliament sits with growing pressure on the Victorian
00:06Government and Premier Jacinta Allen to clean up the long troubled child protection sector.
00:11This data between June and September shows that six children who are known to state services
00:15died.
00:17On top of that there were more than 550 incidents, major incidents requiring investigation including
00:22286 allegations of abuse.
00:25Now this is not isolated, there's been a growing trend of deaths in child protection as well
00:29as allegations of abuse ranging from child prostitution to rampant drug use.
00:34It's putting greater pressure on the Government to clean up its act.
00:38This is what the Government, the Premier Jacinta Allen and the Opposition had to say.
00:42There is more, absolutely more work to be done because any death of any child is a tragedy
00:46but particularly those who are the most vulnerable kids and that's why I again want to thank
00:52those child protection workers who just do such an incredibly important work.
00:58It's their commitment to caring for kids that I want to thank them for.
01:03These children deserve to be cared for, they're our most vulnerable and we need to see a Government
01:08take responsibility.
01:10If the Minister can't fix this very broken, very overstretched system where case workers
01:16are not getting allocated children because the system is so overstretched then the Minister
01:22should resign.
01:23The Premier says she has full confidence in the Minister but it is an issue the Government
01:26must tackle.
