00:00For those severely affected by Christine, any form of relief from financial burden would be very welcome.
00:07Thus, to further ease their suffering, the government is mulling the imposition of a temporary moratorium on electricity bills payment,
00:16possibly until December of this year.
00:19PPV's Kenneth Paciente has more.
00:24The devastation left by Typhoon Christine in the country is significant.
00:28The electricity supply in a large part of the country was cut off.
00:32Following this, President Ferdinand R. Marcos, Jr. seeks to spare the hard-hit victims and affected individuals of any more added burden,
00:39especially in areas under a state of calamity.
00:42Therefore, he ordered the Energy Regulatory Commission, or ERC, to study the implementation of temporary relief from electricity payments in areas affected by the typhoon.
00:51In a statement, the Presidential Communications Office, or PCO, said,
00:55The President instructed the ERC to immediately study the implementation of a two-month moratorium on electricity payments in areas under state of calamity from this month until December.
01:05He also wants the staggered payments for such months if necessary.
01:08According to the PCO, this measure remains part of the government's efforts to assist those affected by the severe storm.
01:15The National Electrification Administration, or NEA, on the other hand, continues to work to restore electricity in areas severely affected by Typhoon Christine.
01:23In fact, of the total 2.1 million household connections affected, only 500,000 households are still without electricity.
01:30According to the NEA, in Pangasinan, 168 out of 192 barangays now have electricity, in Batanga, 76.2%, and in Naga, 76% of all the towns have been re-energized.
01:43In Iriga, however, only 54% have had power restored, and a manual shutdown is still in place in areas still awash or underwater.
01:51In Albay, 62% of household connections have electricity, while in Catanduanes, power connectivity is at 92%.
02:21In any case, we will continue to help and augment the delivery of additional manpower, additional boom trucks to fully help the affected areas restore electricity.
02:38Currently, the NEA has sent 40 teams to Albay to assist in restoration efforts there, despite the challenges in some areas still underwater.
02:46The NEA also assured critical service establishments like hospitals, evacuation centers, ports, and others have power lines.
02:53Safety will be an issue here, not unless and until the water is restored to make sure that the electricity is restored safely.
03:03That's the only thing that will be our priority.
03:06But rest assured that all distribution assets that will be used are already on standby.
03:13From PTV, Kenneth Paciente, Balitang Pambansa.
