00:00This week's projected volume of passengers and food traffic at the Paranaque Integrated
00:05Terminal Exchange, or PITX, of close to 2.5 million has been slashed 41.5 percent to 1,400,000
00:16as a result of severe tropical storm Christine's passage last week.
00:20Still, the adjusted figure is higher than last year's number for the Days of the Dead
00:26celebration that PTV's Ryan Visigas hashes over in this report.
00:34The number of passengers at the PITX is gradually increasing a few days before this year's
00:39solemn observance of the Days of Dead holidays or Undas.
00:43At the QCJF Forum, PITX spokesperson Jason Salvador claims, over the past few days, the
00:49usual daily food traffic of 100,000 to 140,000 at PITX has already increased.
00:55This year, the PITX initially expects around 2.4 million passengers, however, due to the
01:01impact of the typhoon Christine, this estimate has dropped to only 1.4 million.
01:07Despite this, the current passenger count is still higher compared to last year's number.
01:12Right now, the PITX management is preparing for the inflow of passengers, especially as
01:17more people are expected to head to the provinces after the storm has passed.
01:21Yesterday, the number of passengers at PITX reached 160,000.
01:26Salvador emphasized the surge in passenger volume today could last until November 5.
01:32It is also expected that the suspension of bus trips from PITX to Bicol Region and the
01:36Visayas will be lifted today.
01:39According to Salvador, LTFRB and other agencies are conducting clearing operations swiftly
01:44to normalize public transportation services.
01:47As of now, buses departing Metro Manila are not yet fully booked.
01:51Historically, it will be fully booked on the 29th, 30th, and 31st.
01:55But don't worry, our countrymen, because we have pre-arranged the special permits.
01:59If ever other units will need it, we will be able to provide it immediately.
02:05Random drug testing has also been conducted for drivers at the PITX.
02:09We are trying to make sure that there's enough supplies of public utility vehicles.
02:14Because if other buses travel to and from the province and cannot return immediately,
02:19they will not be able to accommodate other passengers.
02:21So what we're working on right now is to ensure that there are additional units on standby.
02:26So that our passengers can enter and exit quickly.
02:30The PITX strongly reminds passengers to avoid patronizing unlicensed vehicles to help prevent accidents.
02:37Yesterday, we were able to catch someone offering a colorum van.
02:41Thankfully, the LTO was there yesterday, so we were able to catch him and he was able to act immediately.
02:46Our message to our countrymen, especially during this passenger season,
02:49is to avoid patronizing colorum operations.
