00:00Discover your roots and re-travel the family history is an exciting and unique trip, an opportunity for Italians abroad and Italo-descendants to live Italy in an authentic and profound way.
00:15In Rome, near Palazzo Grazioli, the third edition of Roots In was presented.
00:20The event, dedicated this year to the tourism of the roots and Made in Italy, took place in Matera on November 18 and 19.
00:26In the celebratory year of the Italian roots in the world, this initiative proposes to enhance the link between Italian culture and excellence,
00:33addressing about 80 million Italians in the world, heirs of Italian immigrants between 800 and 900.
00:40Antonio Nicoletti, General Director of APT Basilicata, underlined how Roots In 2024 puts Made in Italy at the center,
00:48celebrating the cultural and productive identity that Italian descendants carry with them.
00:53We have dedicated the third edition to a particular theme, the first to the interior areas, the second to the regeneration of the villages.
01:00This year it is dedicated to Made in Italy.
01:02One of the reasons is to consider the return journey to its origins and the link that links the Italians of the world to their roots
01:12as an element that can constitute opportunities.
01:20We know that emigration is still a traumatic event today, but we consider it an opportunity.
01:27Those who choose the journey of the roots look for experiences that go beyond traditional tourism,
01:32heading towards less frequented territories, villages and areas far from mass tourism.
01:37This traveler has a careful look at the culture of the places and is often motivated by the desire to give back,
01:43acquire and re-qualify structures and create new job opportunities, giving back value to the community.
01:49An example of success is that of Francis Forcoppo, the icon of international cinema,
01:53who decided to return to his Italian roots in the town of Bernalda, in the province of Matera,
01:58where he created a luxury resort and contributed to the visibility of the Lucanian territory.
02:02The two days in Matera will offer a unique opportunity for networking and training between Italian and international tour operators
02:09to promote the return of descendants to Italy and strengthen tourism and entrepreneurial opportunities.
