00:13Its director, Datuk Mohamad Rusti Mohamad Darus, reported that the arrests were made
00:18in separate operations across Johor Bahru and Batu Pahat between October 28 and 29.
00:26In one of these operations, four men from Cambodia and Thailand were detained for pretending
00:31to be beggars at a night market in Geylang Pata.
00:34Among the suspects was a man with an amputated leg, allegedly seeking public sympathy by
00:39claiming to collect donations for tafiz schools and other religious institutions.
00:45Mohamad Rusti noted that the strategic location and public generosity allowed them to earn
00:51up to 400 ringgit daily, amounting to 12,000 ringgit monthly.
00:57The group had reportedly engaged in this activity for the past three months.
01:01In two other operations around Johor Bahru, 51 foreigners were arrested for various immigration
01:06offences.
01:08Another joint operation was conducted with the Iskandar Putri City Council and the Johor
01:13Health Department, where seven business premises were inspected in Iskandar Putri.
01:19Of the 72 people checked, 33 were arrested for immigration violations.
01:24Further checks on two factories in Taman Mewa led to the arrest of 18 foreign workers for
01:30immigration offences.
01:32In Batu Pahat, another operation led to the arrest of 10 foreigners and two local business
01:37owners, following public complaints about illegal foreign workers.
01:42Of the 38 people screened, 10 foreigners were arrested for overstaying and lacking valid
01:47travel documents, while two locals were detained for harbouring illegal immigrants.
01:52These locals are under investigation under Section 56.1.D of the Immigration Act.
01:59The foreigners arrested across the four operations, aged between 21 and 56, hailed from Myanmar,
02:05Indonesia, Vietnam, Pakistan and Cambodia.
02:09They face investigations under the Immigration Act and regulations for lacking valid permits
02:15or overstaying, and the Immigration Regulations 1963 for violating social visit pass conditions.
