00:00John, got to ask you this before we let you go.
00:02Of those eight teams, what are the chances the Cubs are one of the group that are going
00:08to pursue Juan Soto?
00:10And if they do, do they have any realistic chance of landing him?
00:14Well, I'm sure they'll make the call.
00:16I mean, I don't know that one of the eight teams that called already.
00:21Probably 12 teams will eventually call because I think if you're a big market team and you
00:26don't at least put your hat in the ring, the fan base is going to go nuts.
00:30Are they a realistic team to get him?
00:32I doubt it.
00:33I mean, I'm just looking at the history, right?
00:35The $177 million for Dansby Swanson was really stepping out for them.
00:40You know, they are a big market, obviously, big revenue team, certainly a top 10 revenue
00:45team.
00:46But, you know, do they have the revenues of the Yankees or the Dodgers or the Mets or
00:50the Red Sox?
00:52Not quite.
00:53And, you know, the Dodgers have a big advantage now.
00:56That Otani contract is just enormous for them.
00:59I mean, you know, it's $70 million a year, but with $68 million a year deferred, the
01:05actual value of it is being figured out by some people at least around $29 million.
01:11So and again, many, many times that in sponsorship and marketing money.
01:19He himself is a cash cow for the team, and I think he will allow them to sign anybody
01:25they want over the next nine years if he wants to go, and they will go for him if he wants
01:31to go.
01:32Now, there was some talk when he was in San Diego, it was uneven, he wanted to be on the
01:36East Coast.
01:37I mean, all this is speculation.
01:39We've been saying he prefers the Yankees, and you heard what he said, and that was just
01:43a script.
01:44What does he really think?
01:45You know, I don't know, but he did waste his time.
01:47I don't think he's that cranky who will go for the dollar, $1 more, but, you know, there
01:53is some level at which he will accept a little bit less money to go to a preferred team,
02:01but I don't really think we know who the preferred team is at this point.
02:06He's not going to say anything.
02:08He's going to play it the way his agent, Scott Boris, wants him to play it.
