00:00It finally happened, Joe, in a game the New York Jets absolutely needed.
00:08They deliver.
00:09No tricks on Halloween, only treats for a 40-year-old quarterback Aaron Rodgers and
00:15his two top targets, Garrett Wilson and Devontae Adams.
00:19The Jets finally get a game that they absolutely had to, 21-13 on Thursday Night Football to
00:27kick off week number nine of this 2024 NFL season, beating the Houston Texans, covering
00:34as a two-and-a-half-point favorite.
00:37Joe, a huge game for the Jets.
00:39Are they back on track, as we kind of like to joke in the caption of that game board?
00:45Perhaps.
00:46They are 3-6.
00:47There's still a long, long way to go and a deep, deep hole to climb out of.
00:53I will say this, silver lining for New York, the AFC is not necessarily the gauntlet that
00:59we expected it to be.
01:01And if Devontae Adams and Garrett Wilson are going to perform the way they did, as you
01:05see that spectacular grab that was just on the screen, the still image of it, Garrett
01:10Wilson making the catch of the year so far early in the fourth quarter, if they are going
01:16to perform the way they did in the second half, Joe, last night against Houston, maybe
01:20the Jets, maybe just maybe, can turn things around.
01:25Yeah, I got to tell you, man, any thoughts that maybe Garrett Wilson wouldn't benefit
01:32by having Devontae Williams on the field, or if you were concerned with that trade,
01:38what are you going to do with Garrett Wilson?
01:39The answer is, you're going to showcase him, because impossible now to game plan just for
01:45Garrett Wilson there, Ben, with Devontae Adams on the other side, who's still got a mover
01:49to as we as we saw last night.
01:52So listen, a tale of two halves for the Jets, the same old Jets that we've gotten all year
01:56in the first half, shooting themselves in the foot, dropping a ball, you know, be celebrating
02:03before you get into the end zone.
02:05We even have a new kicker who was gracious enough to hit the goalpost on an extra point
02:10for his first kick.
02:12We added, you know, the usual gamut of emotions with the Jets.
02:16But that second half, that's what, you know, that is what we thought we were going to get
02:20with this Jets team all year long with the talent that they have.
02:24I mean, they were nothing but up C.J. Strouds, you know what, the entire game.
02:30I think they had eight sacks, Quinn and Williams had four alone.
02:34That offensive line of Houston is a mess, people.
02:39And they, I'm sorry, Ben, I mean, whatever the market thinks Houston is, they are not.
02:45And at 6-3, they may be one of the most fraudulent teams at that record in the NFL right now.
02:51Joe, I would have to agree, 3-5-1 against the spread for the Texans this year.
02:58Not covering numbers in a large way when booked as a favorite with the expectation now 1-1
03:05against the number as an underdog.
03:07Not covering last night, getting two and a half points on the road.
03:11No outright wins as a dog either.
03:14The reason I bring that up, last year with C.J. Stroud in his rookie season, 7-4 ATS,
03:20six of those seven covers, an outright victory.
03:23Total of 42 and a half does stay under.
03:25That Jets defense, Joe, so much better last night than they had been in the previous three
03:31weeks.
03:32A part of the five-game losing skid for New York.
03:34They had allowed 23 or more points in the last three, even 25 to Drake Mage and Kobe
03:41the New England Patriots, they stifled the Texans last night.
03:45Joe Mixon, good game on the ground once again over the century mark.
03:49We'll talk about C.J. Stroud and the Texans' woes in just a second, but he was sacked eight
03:55times.
03:56Interior of that Houston offensive line is a large, large concern, but Joe, when you
04:02acquire Devontae Adams, when you make some of the maneuvers that the New York Jets have
04:07throughout this season, it has to have a positive impact.
04:11In his first two games in a Jets uniform, it largely did not.
04:15Last night, it did.
04:17Aaron Rodgers' stat line, 22 of 32, 211 yards, three touchdowns, no interceptions.
04:24That is a good thing.
04:25Only sacked twice.
04:27He stays under his attempts prop.
04:29He stays under his yardage prop, but that's okay, Joe.
04:33You don't want to task the 40-year-old quarterback with having to win you football games because
04:38it was not working in this five-game skid.
04:42But back to the stat line, 22 completions, 16 to Garrett Wilson and Devontae Adams.
04:49Adams had seven, Wilson had nine, 32 attempts, 21 of those to Garrett Wilson and Devontae
04:56Adams.
04:57Tay with more attempts, 11, seven grabs, Wilson with 10, nine receptions.
05:03Garrett Wilson, 90 yards, Devontae Adams, 91 yards.
05:07Garrett Wilson, two touchdown grabs, Devontae Adams finds paydirt for the first time in
05:12a Jets uniform.
05:13In fact, in now the three games together, Joe, Garrett Wilson and Devontae Adams both
05:18scored for the first time last night.
05:21It was picture perfect in many areas for the New York Jets, mainly offensively in the second
05:26half.
05:27It should provide some optimism.
05:28I still think it's a little bit too late, but it should provide some hope for the Jets
05:33moving into the second half of the season.
05:36Absolutely.
05:37And I mean, it is a matchup nightmare for defenses.
05:40Let's be realistic.
05:41I mean, if he just concentrates on those two, I mean, good luck.
05:45I mean, and they got a pretty, you know, Stingley wasn't exactly shutting anybody down last
05:50night and he's one of the better cornerbacks in the league.
05:52So, uh, you know, those two, uh, when utilized correctly and schemed correctly, that's a,
05:58you know, and let's not forget, Breezehall quietly did exactly what he needed to do both
06:03on the ground.
06:04I thought they were balanced enough there.
06:07They just, of course, a disaster of a first half, but the defense finally kept them in
06:13the game long enough early in order for them to figure it out in that second half.
06:18And don't forget, I thought we lost Devontae Adams to the concussion protocol in that second
06:23half on a big hit out of bounds, but he ended up coming back in and then scores the touchdown
06:28right after he was cleared.
06:30So hopefully with 10 days off, they'll be able to, you know, motivate everyone to be
06:35able to build off of what we just saw last night.
