Birmingham City hoping for runs in cup competitions this season

A chance to shine in the cups for Blues…

00:00Birmingham City, obviously, two cup competitions, the EFL trophy, the FA Cup. They are seeming

00:09to enjoy themselves a little bit. It's a way to look at it this season, flying in League

00:15One, great investment, real chance to compete in these competitions like they did during

00:21that season where they went and won the League Cup at Wembley against an Arsenal side. Massive

00:27underdogs in there. They have got it in them to go and win something. Can they sort of

00:31dream about doing that this season? I think they certainly can. Having been title favourites

00:38and heavy favourites in League One, if they can start to extend a bit more of a gap, maybe

00:43Davies can then rotate in favour of the Cups. I know that sounds really strange, but if

00:48they're so far ahead and the priority might start to shift a little bit more or give a

00:53bit more to the Cups, because you know how much you can lift a fan base going far in

00:57a competition like that. I know it's a Football League trophy. It's not the biggest name competition,

01:02but a trip to Wembley is something that can really unite the supporters and bring in potentially

01:07new fans as well, heading to Wembley and get them involved. Obviously, the Carabao Cup,

01:11they went out against Fulham. Chase Stansfield, ironically, scoring in that one before making

01:15his move. But beating Sutton United in the FA Cup, we know how the FA Cup fever can grip

01:20supporters as well. So it really depends who they're going to get in the next round

01:23as to how realistic it is for them to make it far. But they will be looking to win every

01:28single one of those games. Even Willem Willemsen, the Icelandic player for Birmingham, was speaking

01:33after the Sutton win, saying that it's such a famous competition. He watched it all the

01:37time back in Iceland, and he's incredibly determined to make it through as far as possible.

01:42So I'm sure the whole squad will share that feeling, and hopefully Blues can go on a bit

01:46of a cut front.
