00:00The National Para Games will make a long-awaited return after a five-year hiatus.
00:06Arian Malyari of Radyo Pilipinas Sports has this report.
00:11A beaker filled of para-athletes, numbering to 900 called out from 72 cities and provinces,
00:18are set to display their skills in the 8th edition of the Philippine National Para Games.
00:23Nine para sports, including archery, athletics, badminton, boxing, chess, powerlifting, swimming, table tennis, and wheelchair basketball,
00:33will be played simultaneously at the Rizal Memorial Sports Complex in Manila and Phil Sports Complex in Pasig City from November 11 to 14.
00:42With the full backing of the Philippine Sports Commission and funding support from Senator Pia Cayetano and Senator Bongo,
00:48the PNPG 2024 is highly anticipated by the para sports community since the biennial games were shelved for over five years due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
00:59Philippine Paralympic Committee Secretary General Gudi Custodio expressed optimism that this year's PNPG will boost their grassroots and elite-level programs
01:09with the competitions serving as basis for selection of national pool and team for the 2025 para sports calendar.
01:17The PPC is very excited for the comeback of the Philippine National Para Games because the last time we had the PNPG is in 2019.
01:29So now, we're looking for new talents and we need new talents for the upcoming international events. So we're really pursuing this.
01:42PNPG is the cradle of the country's finest para athletes who made it to the Paralympic Games,
01:48such as swimmers Angel Autumn and Ernie Gawilan, and bronze medalist powerlifter Adeline Dumapong and table tennis player Josephine Medina.
