00:00Home to America's largest Arab-American community, Michigan's Dearborn swung dramatically away
00:06from the Democrats, preliminary results show, amid dismay over the party's perceived support
00:12for Israel's deadly military campaigns in the Middle East.
00:17The way that the Harris team campaigned this year is they put a gun and they shot a number
00:23of Palestinians and they said, but don't vote for Trump. And it's just a hard image to get
00:27past. And at the end of the day, what I think people recognise and people have explicitly
00:31said is we understand that Trump could be worse. But the scale of injustice that people
00:35have witnessed pales in comparison to anything else.
00:39Kamala Harris, in fact, didn't campaign in Dearborn at all, whereas Donald Trump did
00:44show up. And with his promises to end the war and improve the economy, managed to leave
00:50an impression.
00:51He could put more pressure on Israel and the Arab and they could go ahead and make the
00:57peace in this country.
00:58We really need our economy to be better. We all need America to be great again.
01:06Trump's late surge of popularity among Arab-Americans comes despite his first-term record in office,
01:12when he imposed a travel ban on several Muslim-majority nations, endorsed Israeli settlements in the
01:18West Bank and moved the US embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem.
01:23Donald Trump is playing our communities, is playing American voters, is playing the
01:29Arab and Muslim community. And it is failed democratic leadership that is allowing him
01:37to do that.
01:38Green Party candidate Jill Stein, who ended her campaign in Dearborn wearing a Palestinian
01:43keffiyeh, also did well in the town, winning around 20% of ballots and eating into the
01:50Democratic vote.
